Original Vox Cry Baby, Fuzz Face, and Uni-Vibe. Of course none of them were buffered so my guitar signal suffered when they weren't on. Still, I wish I still had some of those things.
@@johnseventy And for what it's worth, I still have my 1965 Stratocaster that I bought in '69. You can't imagine how disappointed I was after I got the guitar and didn't immediately sound like Jimi Hendrix, lol.

I like videos like this. Just think what this could do for a young player starting out. We didn't have You Tube in the late 70s and 80s to help us figure stuff out.
Always excellent to see a fellow fan! This video is awesome, and I went through a similar path in my formative days of learning guitar, but with the Captain Coconut 2, a Picture Wah and Tubescreamer for the base tone. There's nothing like having the power to sound like Jimi at your feet 😂 But to get the actual tones, you have to nail some of the feeling too, which is why I appreciate this video so much
Pretty good man, I have one question, what do you have that BOG Fuzz Face set at? I have the mini BOG FF and it sounds good with the guitar volume flat out but rolling down the volume it just gets muffled, almost none usable clean roll off. I'm curious if the full size one sounds different, it definitely has different components than the Mini. *edit* So you inspired me to put my Chase Tone aside and experiment with the BOG Fuzz Face Mini again, I think I finally figured it out. Obviously Jimi didn't have the fuzz up too high for the Fillmore shows, I set my fuzz around half and volume to push the amp. Now my biggest disappointment with the BOG is cleanup with the guitar volume. It always sounded real dull and muddy rolling off the guitar volume, it would clean up but got real dull. Anyways I dimed the presence and treble on my HDRX 20 and now it sounds right, thats that Fillmore sound. Crazy is now I see that weird tone it gets when you roll off is really a part of his sound for those shows. With the presence and treble dimed the fuzz actually cleans up quite nice and that paired with the Uni Vibe pre amp is sounded damb close now 👌 Thanks for motivating me to spend more time with my BOG Fuzz, happy new year and keep keeping Jimi's flame alive 👌
That’s awesome man! I’m really glad everything worked out! I usually run my BOG at a similar setting. Recently I found that running the volume at 3 o’clock, and fuzz at 9 o’clock had some pretty cool tones, and cleaned up pretty well too. Sometimes I’ll also run the fuzz a little higher at 12 o’clock. The fuzz face in this video is actually a custom BOG with BC183b transistors, so everything is pretty much maxed on it. I have another video where I compare the two. In terms of the Mini and Full Size versions, in my experience, they both sound the same. I’d say maybe the Mini was “tighter” in sound, probably because it was powered by power supply. You can’t go wrong with either. Happy New Year to you as well my friend! Thanks for checking out the channel! 🎸🎶
Hello John! Great video :) I have some questions, maybe you have an idea and can help me? 😅 (1) The famous solo of machine gun - the first note(s) - they are sustaining super long. That must be feedback, do you also think so? How can you get that harmonic feedback? Just by the volume of the amp? Or is he creating it by a combination of wah and fuzz? (2) what effects is he using at machine gun? I think it is clearly univibe - but is he also using fuzz with roled back volume? I am not sure if the univibe is creating all the „wah“ - is he also using the wah? Probably just very slightly? (3) what are your settings for the fuzz and your amp (I assume you are using a marshall plexi (super lead / sv20)?) These are very specific questions - I hope it is not too much - but it is great to find somebody liking this very exact thing 😅 Thank you and have a great day! Regards, Stefan
Hi Stefan! Thank you! (1) So on that first note, I believe that Jimi is bending the 17th fret a full step up on the high e string. On most recordings of “Machine Gun”, I believe he also has the univibe speed at maximum while he is bending this. Some versions have lots of feedback, but the key part is the sustain from bending that note and the speed of the univibe, as well as volume, fuzz. (2) Yes, he uses univibe, fuzz, wah, and on a few recordings, octavia. He does roll the volume down on his guitar while using the fuzz, usually during parts of the songs where he is playing rhythm. Sometimes he has no fuzz on during rhythm. He uses more fuzz during the solo. (3) My fuzz face volume is usually maximum, and the fuzz level is usually between 4-5 o’clock. For BOG fuzz face, I usually run the volume at 3 o’clock and fuzz level at 12 o’clock. The fuzz face here used the former of the two. The amp I use is actually an Orange CR120H 🍊 through x2 PPC112 cabinets. The settings are a little hard to describe over text, but there are two volumes, a master and channel volume. I run the channel volume maxed, and the master volume lower, so I can achieve break up tones without playing too loud 😅. Hope this helps out and thanks for the comment! 🎸🎶
Hello John! Thank you very much! That helped me a lot! I am going to try it out the next days when I have time :) Thanks again for the great video! Best regards Stefan
The wave of the effect is not as smooth (Hendrix Woodstock). The version 2.0 (gray) has been modded with possibility of faster and slower speed. It now has a 15db boost power compared to barely over untiy gain before.
@@thesoundpurist I see. That’s how I kinda felt about this one. The Vibe-Bro wasn’t as smooth either, and I felt like it was tone sucking. The preamp was very dark sounding, which made the vibe effect sound “mushy”. The version 2.0 you mentioned sounds interesting. I’ll have to check it out one day. 🎶
Thank you my friend! When the effect is canceled (speed is off), the univibe preamp still affects your tone. But if you turn the switch off to the univibe, then it will turn off the signal from your guitar to amp (no sound). The univibe switch must always be on when in use in the signal chain.
Love your signal chain bruv Out of curiosity, what are your settings on the octavio? That vibe bro looks like a beast, I've got an Argenziano Gypsy Vibe on the way ✌️
Thank you my friend! The settings on the Octavio are maximum for “Level”, and actually minimum for “Fuzz”. Ooh yes! The Argenziano Gypsy Vibe is amazing! I am waiting on one as well. Stay tuned for a demo! Hope you enjoy yours! 🤘🎸🎶
I find turning the fuzz knob back a little, maybe 4 o’clock helps. You have to play around with the knobs a bit to find the sweet spot. Doesn’t always work out the same way on every fuzz. Also placing another pedal in between the wah and fuzz slightly acts as a buffer, and will help it be more usable.
JIMI WAS EXPERIMENTED ,THE NEW SOUNDS OF 1968 !!! AND HE WAS A MASTER FOR TRYING THOSE DIFFÉRENTS SOUNDS. CRY BABY VOX +FUZZ FACE +UNIVIBE +AND OTHER OSCILLATIONS EFFECTS. , 😃👍👍👌👌👌⛤⛤⛤⛤♾♾♾♾
Well done, pal. I've been looking for a 'breakdown' type video and all the modern vids are just overdriven, vastly reverbed or slap-backed gash - very disheartening. You're the winner, pal.
I’m not sure what the serial number is on my Vibe-Bro, but I bought mine from them in late 2021. I know the earlier versions have the red and white chorus/vibrato switch. Mine has a black switch. This fuzz face is a custom and has a BC183 circuit. Built by a friend of mine on Instagram.
When you kick on the fuzz face the first time, was your guitar volume on 10? I love the FF but when my guitar is on 10 the tone turns to complete mush.
No, I rolled the guitar knob down to about maybe 6 when the fuzz was on. But I have since changed my amp settings. The amp volume is louder now and I roll my guitar knob down to about 5-6 for my clean tone before fuzz. Then when I activate the fuzz face, I have the volume set at 10 o’clock, fuzz set between 4-5 o’clock. This allows me to turn on the fuzz without too much of a volume increase, since the amp volume is already loud. Basically, if your getting too much “mush” at volume 10 on your guitar knob, it either means you need to increase the volume on the pedal, or increase the volume on the amp. Hope this helps out! 🎶
I use an Orange CR120H through x2 PPC112 cabinets. For the settings, they were different in this video. I have changed them a bit. I’m now running the master volume: between 11 and 12 o’clock, channel volume: between 9 and 10 o’clock, treble: a little past 4 o’clock, mids: cranked 5 o’clock, bass: 10 o’clock, and gain: near 2 o’clock. Unity volume is around 5 on my guitar knob (strat). 🎶
Honestly, I’d just say playing louder on your amp. Most of these pedals sound good when your amp is cranked or close, achieving “breakup” clean tones. You’ll want to roll your volume knob down on your guitar to clean up. If you do this, you can make most pedals sound really good! 💯

How can I get this tone on a budget??
Honestly, I’d just say playing louder on your amp. Most of these pedals sound good when your amp is cranked or close, achieving “breakup” clean tones. You’ll want to roll your volume knob down on your guitar to clean up. If you do this, you can make most pedals sound really good! 💯
Thank you so much! Sounds like I just need to practice haha Your playing is killer!

JOHN SEVENTY, try to find which songs jimi hendrix used the strats tone controls to get different strat tones to make a YT lesson about
I don’t quite understand. Which songs for example?
@@johnseventy which hendrix album songs or hendrix live concert songs did hendrix roll back the strat tone pots controls?
@@waynegram8907 I don’t know exactly which songs or concerts he did that. Probably all of them.
Hi...amp name?
Hi, I’m using an Orange CR120H through x2 PPC112 cabinets.
Slightly dirty amp?
Yes
Merci beautifulness
Thank you my friend! 🙏🎸
Great tones. How is the BOG fuzz customised ?
Thank you! So this fuzz face is a BOG replica, not the Dunlop version. This one has rounded edges, Dallas-Arbiter smile, and different transistors. 🎸🎶
What circuit did you use ?
@@jupitermoongauge4055 this one just has x2 BC183’s.
