Bought the one that's $100 with the red laser and it's a bad ass use it a lot in residential jobs, im an electrician
Regarding your mention of long distance measurements, I too have found them frustrating with any laser measurement device. One of the features that I love about the GLM165-27CG is that I can trigger measurements with the Bosch app, which allows me to rest the GLM on a surface and clicking a button on my phone through the app for an undisturbed measurement, thus preventing me from disturbing the laser placement when trying to carefully push the measurement button on the GLM. This remote measurement triggering feature was a selling point for me as I often long distance measurements. Also, the MeasureOn app is a wonderful way to fully capture what I need and how I need it. My only petty gripe with this device is the low resolution lcd display - I don't like seeing pixelation. I'm just spoiled by the crystal clear screens on phones I guess.
Thanks for this Chris, I agree with you 100% the Measure On app is a game changer. The display also leaves something to be desired but its a major jump what what I used to have to use. Thanks for watching!
I have this for like a year and didnt know this was possible, thanks
I think they should sell what amounts to sunglasses with very narrow band pass to wear when they're using these devices during the day. The band pass will center on the emission frequency of the lasere of the laser. So when you wear them during the day, you will see very little of the ambient light. Only the portion of the ambient light that happens to correspond with the wavelength of the laser itself. This will make the laser appear much brighter.
I swear when you start use Metric a whole new world of simplicity and happines reveal upon you!!! No more 3/8, 6/18!!! No more thinking about WTF I mesure now!!! Metric simply 1, 10, 100, 1000. Thats all. Go with world!!! Be normal!!! 🤓
You speak truth, I am good with fractions but I am rare in that regard. My plumber buddy converted to metric a few years back and its incredible how easy it is for his workers to get it too.
Yes, I have been loving the metric system since 1970 or so. Of course, they could fix inches by making them decimal: 10th of inches, hundreds of inches, etcetera.
6/18" ?
1/3" I assume your looking for in simplest form? But yes metric is best for hobbyist. 🤓
Just picked one of these up. I do piping layout for work. I'm excited to see how much time it's going to save me.
I hope it works out for you, it saved me a lot of time doing bids and for measuring framing layouts. Let me know, good pick up my friend!
Well done Nate straight honest and to the point. I have and use an O L D DLR 130. I think it came over one the Mayflower. LOL. I could definitely us a bit of tech upgrade. The app function will be crazy helpful.
Has anyone looked in the question of how using a plastic molded corner cube retroreflector will improve the range of measurement? Such devices improve reflection by a factor of about 1,000. I wonder what these devices will do when they see a reflection at a distance larger than their rated measurement range.
Also, I used a optical spectrum analyzer to see that the laser light from a Mileseey S2 distance measure device is centered at 656 nanoneters. I wonder if the inclusion of a multi-layer ceramic optical filter, which passes at this wavelength, if put over the receiver lens and thus block out most visible, would improve the range during the day.
Similarly, if you could wear sunglasses that had a pass transmission over the wavelength involved, you might be able to see the reflection far better.
I have looked into that and I have used the reflector plate that comes with my Hilti laser here and there and it does help. But for long distances outdoors it is still a bit of a question mark if we can or cannot see it and also holding the measurement has been tricky. But that is awesome advice and those do help, also, very affordable on Amazon and other market places. Love it.
Umm I weld things bro. So that starts with measuring stuff and the Multi layer optical filter with ceramic backed titanium infused carbon fiber that's reverse engineered from space alien technology that you speak of is great I am sure but just measuring works for me. 😆
@7:30, your chart is wrong. You have an extra zero on your error column, so the worst error is 0.14, not 0.014. Not as accurate as you were thinking, but nonetheless only one measurement exceeds the promised +/- 1/16
Which one is outdoor use ?
Is there a distsnce measurement tool measuring how long barge board, fascias
From standing on the ground?
I use for painting but am estimating it
If you know what I mean
You can use it for that, I have used it to measure all sorts of things including estimates for siding installs. The green laser would be necessary because it lets you know when you are plumb and measuring straight to give you the best measurement.
@@realtoolboxreviews 👍 great thank you 😊
Would you be able to maybe show a video example
Awesome job 👏
I am drifting between Bosch GLM165 25G and Nivel System HDM-5G which has +-2mm accuracy margin but a manual measurement calibration? Can you give any arguments which one you would opt for?
I don’t know much about the Nivel system. But I will say that the 25g is a good laser and it’s withstood the beating I’ve put it through as an electrician. I know a lot of other trades people who use it as well. So it would get my vote.
Just ordered the GLM165-25G version, I don't need those extra features. But I don't think the 27CG is rated for outdoors either. I think only the GLM400C claims that with 400ft range but also $$$.
I’ve used it outdoors but I think it would get ruined in rain. The 400ft is just too expensive.
@@realtoolboxreviews Totally too much $$$, like $250!!! The GLM165s are IP65 rated so you could have a hose pointed at it for like, 15 minutes and it should be fine. You just can't put it UNDER water. The seals aren't designed for that. The green laser definitely CAN work outside as others have shown, it just doesn't promise that for the GLM165s. Cheers!
The 400c is outdoors because you use the screen to see not the laser
Is it able/easy to subtract (or add) a small offset from a bunch of measurements? for example, can i measure to an item and then subtract a recalled 2.5ft (or better have the measurement start with negative 2.5ft, always displaying the distance with the 2.5 subtracted). I need to do this hundreds of times from a fixed point with an offset. Do i enter the offset by making a measurement and then storing it, or is the manual enter process? I guess i could make a 2.5ft stick and attach it to that, but that would be a PITA.
Hi Larry, the MeasureON app can do that, it can store up to 100 or so measurements at a time. I still use a notepad for conduit cuts and what not. If an offset is needed, I manually do that. I usually have it set in the fraction mode which gives you a reading of 12 1/64 and not a decimal. I then add all that in and deduct any offsets. The stick idea is genius and I would recommend that. The measurement is from the back of the unit. One other guy I know uses this with a flat schim to create an offset, so similar process. Thanks for watching!
How do you get the measurements to read feet and inches, instead of feet and decimals?
@@thetruth7046 there is an option to change to fractions in the menu options.
Does it allow you to select the unit of measurement (1/16,1/8,1/4, etc…)?
@@chazstevens-bq9ig yes you can change that depending on what your doing.
How much
How do you measure the table top?
Howdy friend, assuming your talking about measuring something round. I have always found the center reference point and then used shims and painters tape to find the measurements. This gives the laser point something to land on that references the end. I use flat cedar shims for almost everything, tapered shims wouldn't really work. Hope that is what you meant. Take care!
@@realtoolboxreviews I just got a laser a few days ago and I love it, but it’s much easier to measure a rectangular free-standing item like a desktop with a tape. For everything else, the laser is a no-brainer!
Show me how to use the app in detail
We might do that as a separate video. It would require at least that.
@@realtoolboxreviewsI'd be interested too. How hard or easy is it to measure posts/pillars in the app?
It very easy and the app works really well for that. I have to film a lot of stuff but I can come back to this as it appears to be in demand. @@nickzigrang2664
Just got the European Version of it, and I find the app unusable.maybe I am doing something wrong. A basic square room might be OK, but adding detail on the walls such as Windows and Doors creates so many errors that I gave up after the first room. Things are mirrored sometimes and it will not accept actual measurements.
You could show some details things like indirect measuring, app, ... instead of some general things
Thanks! We were going to add more detail but didn’t want to add too much time. The indirect measurement and other functions are awesome but I spent most of my time in direct and area.
@realtoolboxreviews if you can show how this model works with Xactimate and SketchUp to draw for plans, that would be sweet.
how do i change the language from french to english. since the manual is a joke.
I honestly don’t know but there are number apps that can translate pages of text from a smart phone. The manual that comes with it is a total joke.
I dont think that the long distance exact pointing strugle is unique to this model so it should'nt be part of your dislike section after using 3 different models over the time it is alway annoying to point on long distance.
I agree, I expected it to work a bit better but I still rely on my large measurement tape to handle most large expanses. I was hoping that this system would replace that which is why I placed it in the dislike section.
why measure in feets? measure in pigeons.
P.s. does plr-165 has any difference from plr-50?
I have this laser and have nothing but issues with the battery error. I would not recommend
These are overpriced junk. Received one for xmas and bad out of the box. Displays red alert and reboots when trying to measure. A quick search on internet shows this is a very common problem.
Can't speak to their long term production methods and what not. But I have been using the red and green laser for well over two years with no issues. Sorry that happened with yours, they make a boat load of these things every year so it looks like their production declined from what you are saying.
Hi good video.
I know it displays in this format -> 3’- 6 ⅜”
But I’d like to know if it’ll display in just inches ie. 42 ⅜”
It can measure longer runs and it shows you down to the fraction, I just had to measure a pipe run yesterday that was 67 3/4 so it displays that way as well, that is what your asking right?
Yes, that was exactly what I needed to know. I downloaded the manual and couldn’t find the info there. Thank you.
