Maynard a bit outta tune on the D at the 8 second mark. That flugelhorn can be a bitch and even the great Maynard knows it. He's the greatest though so, screw it.
I heard it too and also agree with the toughness on that darn flugelhorn. Sometimes ya gotta lip that note in tune. It's Maynard though and anything he does is good enough for me.
Ultimate Canadian Heritage moment for my generation of musicians. Very emotional to watch as these were all our heroes
Maynard's accuracy was astounding back then!!
My teacher played this as a piece to earn his masters in college. I heard it in 1990. He nailed it.
Gonna throw in the beautiful melodic piano solo.
those trombones at the 4 minute mark WOW!
That's the best part of the entire arrangement. Rob McConnell on valve trombone. Canadian all-stars!
Rob McConnell, Butch Wananabe, Eric Traugen, Guido Basso...I think. CBC jazz studio legends.
Ed Bickert on guitar...
Where is Lynn?
