i was in Junior High, it was at the Forum(LA, CA), and the Jackson 5 was the main attraction(I want you back/ABC). the Young Rascals came on after the Jackson 5. i was up high(cheap seats), wearing a Purple very puffed blouse and a white vest and skirt. they sung Groovin, and Beautifu morning. today those two sungs are just so awsome and peaceful. thank you Felix
I clearly remember hearing Good Lovin' for the first time... My dad owned a bar on Long Island. IT was an older crowd, and the juke box was stuffed with Sinatra, Como, Martin, Percy Faith...etc..etc.. and then one day the guy who would change out the singles put in the Rascals.. Early Saturday's and Sunday's , before the bar crowd would filter in.. I would hang around with my father while he cleaned the place and stocked the beer coolers... I would take that opportunity to play that song over and over again.. Been a huge fan ever since. The Rascals had one of the greatest sounds of the 60's...and wrote such amazing classics. It's a Beautiful Morning and Groovin still bring me right back to those days... I still listen to their songs every week on my music mix.. Great vocalists and musicians. Thank you so much
I saw the Rascals at the HIC arena in Oahu, Hawaii in 1966. I saw the Stones (with Brian Jones) there that same summer. The Rascals rocked just as hard as the Stones. Such a soulful band. Nice work, Joe.

This is such a revealing interview. Felix is an extremely talented songwriter. I have always loved the Rascals since I first heard Good Lovin’ over 50 years ago. The Rascals are the best band of all time!
I am and was a Rascal Fan, on a bit of serendipity , early 1990’s - both of us flew into Cleveland on the same NWO flight which featured Felix on video. We met at the turnstile and I introduce myself and we chatted and I brought up the group Brass Buttons a local central New York Band managed by one of the Rascals . He was considerate and we were both 30 years past the release of “Grovin”. That song was like a story about my future wife and and me before I went to Nam. I used the song as part of the eulogy I did for her . 53 years later there is a smile and tear .. Thnx Felix. Lou z

Felix helped me get through my teenage years and I appreciate all he did as well the many other musicians and artists of that time.
So good to see Felix! The Rascals were the first group I ever met. I was 12 years old. My mother took me and my best friend to the concert. She didn't drive, so I have no idea how we got there. The show was not well attended, so we got to sit where ever we wanted. Caught the guys leaving. Got autographs. They were all very nice. They started it all. Met many more after that.

I wake up each day to my ULTIMATE RASCALS cd and cue up A BEAUTIFUL MORNING and I'm back in high school soaking up the sunlight beaming into my classroom. My classmates and I have a portable record player with a pile of 45's nearby and MORNING is our first choice because Felix, Dino, Gene, and Eddie say it is and will be a beautiful morning and they have never let us down.

Every garage band in LA and Orange County, including the one I was in, covered Good Lovin’ back in the day. I heard it for the first time on The Big 11-10, KRLA Pasadena, my go-to AM radio station in Southern California. I gave my high school sweetheart, my first love, a copy of the single How Can I Be Sure. I still dig The Rascals’ song I Ain’t Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore. Great recording. The Rascals' music stands the test of time. Magical musical memories still turning in the windmills of my mind.

I would love to visit your museum, perhaps some day when the US returns to normal or a new normal. Happy New Year to your and yours, Steve (on the West Coast). My opinion is worth enough to buy a small cup of coffee at Peet's (Starbucks' is too acidic). That said, I totally agree with Felix's comment about Dino Danelli's drumming! In addition to being a drummer extraordinaire, he even held is sticks in the traditional manner like Buddy Rich, Danny Seraphine, Bobby Colomby, et al. Without Danelli, The Rascals would not have been the same.

I met him once at the height of his career with the Young Rascals at the Westchester County place where you renew your driver's license in Central Ave. just south of White Plains. We were both renewing our driver's licence standing in line. Must have been around 1967.

I remember my first ear opening YOUNG RASCALS album. There were 3 bands on this one LP. The Young Rascals playing “ the Syracuse” plus some other songs. The other band were The Thugs! I bought the album at Newberrys in Douglas, Az. 1965 I think!?
Wow! I had to look it up (presuming Wikipedia ia accurate)... Donald Leslie worked as a radio service engineer at Barker Brothers Department Store in Los Angeles, which sold and repaired Hammond organs. He bought one in 1937, hoping it would be a suitable substitute for a pipe organ. He was disappointed, however, with the sound in his home compared to the large showroom where he originally heard it. Consequently, he attempted to design a speaker to overcome this. He initially tried making a cabinet similar to Hammond's, but soon concluded that pipe organs produced a spatially varied sound because of the different location of each pipe. He set out to emulate this by making a moving speaker. He tried various combinations of speakers and speeds, and discovered that a single one running at what's now known as the "tremolo" speed worked best. After further experimentation, he decided that splitting the signal into a rotating drum and horn helped accentuate bass and treble frequencies.
Love hearing these legends tell their stories...I didn't expect to last 30 minutes on a genre I'm not familiar with but found Felix's enthusiasm captivating...great style of interview Joe, just kick it off n let him go!

My favorite band of all time. Felix is one of the greatest musicians/ songwriters, and singers. From Good Lovin' to Island of Real, the progression of great music never stopped. Thank you Felix, for the memories, and inspiration.
Perusing the Billboard Book of Top 40 Albums years ago I noticed one surprising bit of trivia (and if I'm wrong I know someone will correct me). During the 1960's only 2 groups had their Greatest Hits album go to Number One on the Billboard chart. (IN THE 60's, mind you. Beatles compilations, for instance, came later). One was, unsurprisingly, Diana Ross and the Supremes. The other was, yes , the Rascals. Quite an achievement.
Fabulous chat. Hard to fathom all of those incredible songs coming from the same place- all timeless classics, and the fact that it was all created ‘in house.’ I’ve been loving the MHOF theme song- I loved Steve Wariner in the 90s!

It was a perfect storm for the Rascals. They came together at the right time. If they were at another label other than Atlantic, I'm not sure they would have been as successful. The label was invested in their growth and success.

The Rascals are one of my favorite bands, I was lucky enough to grow up in NY in the 60's and got to see them dozens of times. I also got to meet the band and saw a few shows of the 2013 Reunion Once Upon A Dream Tour, I love Felix, Eddie, Dino & Gen forever. Great channel Joe, you have a new subscriber!

I first heard The Rascals in 1967 and I never stopped listening . Incredibly beautiful songs. The rocked with the best of all time and their ballads were second to none. I wore our many Time and Peace records in my 66 years !

Saw the original Rascals at a local college around 1965-66. They were great of course. Then I more recently saw their "Once Upon a Dream" reunion show in New York City. Still great after all those years.

I've heard through the grapevine that Felix wanted more $$$ then the other Rascals to stay on with the Once upon a dream reunion show, Which needed to stay on the road before any profits could occur. My favorite band of all time. Felix is one of the greatest musicians/ songwriters, and singers. From Good Lovin' to Island of Real, the progression of great music never stopped. Thank you Felix, for the memories, and inspiration.

So fascinating.
Perusing the Billboard Book of Top 40 Albums years ago I noticed one surprising bit of trivia (and if I'm wrong I know someone will correct me). During the 1960's only 2 groups had their Greatest Hits album go to Number One on the Billboard chart. (IN THE 60's, mind you. Beatles compilations, for instance, came later). One was, unsurprisingly, Diana Ross and the Supremes. The other was, yes , the Rascals. Quite an achievement.

It was a perfect storm for the Rascals. They came together at the right time. If they were at another label other than Atlantic, I'm not sure they would have been as successful. The label was invested in their growth and success.

28:11 sad you should bring up that topic. But the fact is there was public opposition from the beginning ( '64 ground troops) and by '67 gallop polls were showing the majority of Americans were against the war - bipartisan - not "liberal views"...
Felix penned some of the most enduring songs of the 60s - and he acts as if it was just a thing. God love the guy.
The Rascals are one of my favorite bands, I was lucky enough to grow up in NY in the 60's and got to see them dozens of times. I also got to meet the band and saw a few shows of the 2013 Reunion Once Upon A Dream Tour, I love Felix, Eddie, Dino & Gen forever. Great channel Joe, you have a new subscriber!

The rocked with the best of all time and their ballads were second to none. I wore our many
Time and Peace records in my 66 years !

Saw the original Rascals at a local college around 1965-66. They were great of course. Then I more recently saw their "Once Upon a Dream" reunion show in New York City. Still great after all those years.
