- Today I take a look at the Ivanko COC 2.5KG collars. I picked them up as part of the calibrated weight set I got several years ago. Today we see if they're worth it for home use.

Do you say I-vank-o, I-van-ko, or Ivan-ko?
I-vank-off
Penis penis penis?
Stay-big-ko
I van ko. Never really thought of the other ways of saying it because they sound pretty dumb lol.
That's a pretty fat coc you've got there Brandon
$150 collars that can't stay tight, lol. What a shame.
@lochlann fyfe Very grown up.
They stay on tight if you crank them down like a fucking man.
What a time to be alive.
@lochlann fyfe no soy boys allowed
They'd be nice to have if you have literally everything else. But, Dennis Cornelius will be in his garage with a beat up old bar and steel generic weights outlifting us all anyway. Thanks for the slides mane.
Barefoot too
Becomes a pain in the ass to try to account for them when loading
Very good point
@@BasementBrandon just dont , best case senario you become 1.25kg stronger without knowing .
$150 for collars? Absolutely not!
Lol if I could do it again I wouldn't either.
Eleiko rules when it comes to competition collars but training is training so cheap spring collars do the job for me!:)
They also rule when it comes to pricing lol
Was a few years ago that I saw the price tag (domestic) but my guess is that Ivanko is numero uno in the collars pricing department:)
They always move though. It seems like this style of collar is the only one that stays put
No thanks. I'm fine with my $7 plastic collars I got off Amazon.
Right on!
I've used a similar pair from Eleiko that doesn't cause the same problem as the Ivanko's. Stays put even with Olympic lifts.
Right on
I liked the video and get why you dont use them in trainings. I have no clue if Eleiko collars are built differently but Ive done sets of 8 with a fairly fast descent with 225kg (4 reds + collars) and the Eleiko collars and Plates didnt move one single millimeter.
Interesting to hear!
Wow haven't watched one of your vids for a while. Strong beard gains!
Haha for now!
I have these in my gym. They are cool but take long to take off and put on. I prefer the lockjaw pro collars, way quicker and hold extremely well under load.
same!
Ive always wondered why you dont use them. I have eleiko ones i bought for $100 and I love them and use them every training session. I dont notice the multiple reps causing them to loosen. Different strokes though!
Right on!
Hey Brandon, I personally prefer to train with these especially when I’m deadlifting for reps. In order to tighten it properly, you must use a deadlift Jack to Jack the weight up mid air first, because you won’t be able to secure the weight properly when it’s seated on the ground.
I still find the start to come loose :(
Excellent Video man, your reasoning is exactly why i have not purchased them.
Thanks big James!
I can understand preparing for a competition with the same types of bars and racks as will be used. Collars, not so much. They're just, well, *there,* and it seems highly improbable that they affect the dynamics of a lift in any way at all.
Won't get an argument from me there.
I bought a pair. If was after an incident where I ended up with a broken toe. I was willing to pay more for a premium collar (all my collars were changed, I have 2 bolt locks on some as well). Maybe I went overkill, but having a flattened toe makes your perspective change a little. No incidence since I upgraded, so it was worth it for me.
I say Ivank-o...hmm, maybe sometimes Ivan-ko to be honest...
Right on! Good luck w/the injury!
$150 for collars? I think you got punk'd!
Calibrated equipment isn't cheap!
Would using rubber washers between the plates and the collar keep it from becoming loose?
Could be!
Hi there just watched your macros made simple video from years ago and It was The best video I have found on youtube so seriously well done man!!
I’m 16, 5ft9, 132lbs, 8/9% body fat and want to start a bulk do these macros sound right? 140g protein, 50g fat, 398g of carbs? with my calorie intake being 2600 when starting the bulk? Please get back to me, Will be highly appreciated. Cheers lewis
It's tough to say without knowing your energy output, but I think that's a good start. If it were me, I'd aim to hit that intake for the next 2 weeks consistently and see how your weight responds, then adjust accordingly.
Brandon Campbell Diamond Cheers man will give it a shot!
I've used a pair, they're very nice! $150 is a little steep; especially compared to Eleiko and Titen
Yeah when the Titex ones went on sale it was a very good deal!
Still gonna buy eleiko comp collars when they restock but this was useful
Right on!
Could you review strongarm competition collars? They’re 60CAD so like a third the price of these and I’d like to hear your opinion on them
If I get my hands on them!
Eleikos comp collars are cheaper than rogues comp collars, which would you recommend I go with?
Whichever you prefer. TBH I'm not a huge fan of training with them in general.
Hey Brandon I'm hoping you see this comment. What collars would you recommend for reps? I have this same annoying problem with the shifting and wondering if any collars out there keep them in place.
I use some older lock jaw collars, the new ones don't hold as good IMO. But if I were buying new I'd prob go with some OSO ones or cheap amazon knock off lock jaws.
Thanks for the recommendations Brandon. Will look into them.
What kind of collars do you use normally? I bought 2 pairs of the plastic rogues collars, broke 2 of them just unlocking them.
Daniel Murphy I have some older lock jaws that have held up well. I have some of their newer ones but they’re not as good IMO. I’d prob go the cheap knock offs on amazon though that cost like $9
I avoided buying plastic collars for that very reason. I read tons of reviews that all had some mentions of the plastic breaking or cracking so I spent a little more for OSO collars as they're made with military grade aluminium and though the lever is plastic I've yet to break them in the 2 years I've had them so far
Whoa... Sick beard. Got the flecks of grey and everything too.
Getting old lol
Hey Brandon. Do you know if these will work on specialty bars that don’t have standard sleeve diameters like an EliteFTS SS Yoke?
They might? But I wouldn't go that route, most comp collars are super pricey and you can get a pair of axel collars or even cheap clamps from Home Depot that work fine.
So Brandon, should i go for the plastic barbell collars for my home gym?
Those will do just fine. If you want something really nice I do like the Rogue Aluminum collars that Coop from GarageGymReviews did a few videos on, they don't budge!
Always find these interesting even though I'll never get them....
same lol
Just got my Rogue Aluminum collars for $50. Bummer that today is a push day and not going to take full advantage of them. Can't imagine spending an extra $100... Damn. Also have Notorious Lift Sumo slippers en route right now. Those seem to be making a crazy splash at my gym and all over Instagram. You should check them out! Would love to get your input
I've done a video on them, I've had pretty much every iteration!
Brandon Campbell Diamond My bad boss. I’ll be watching those ASAP. Cheers!
That beard is coming in beautifully #saltnpeppa
Hah we'll see how long it lasts
Probably not for me. For a rack any thoughts on the Monster Rack vs Fortis Rack? Built with add-ons I want they come out to the same price.
The Fortis is meant to be a more budget friendly option of the Monster, if you're coming out to the same price I'd probably go Monster.
@@BasementBrandon Thanks for your thoughts. I'm torn on which one I want. I like the Monster Rack because of the custom colors and it does offer a larger inside dimension if I wanted it. But the Fortis is like the rml3 and is fully welded. I have used Rogue gear before so either would probably be good. Thankfully I live an hour and a half from Rogue HQ so I may have to road trip to C-Bus. It's a good reason to check out their gear and get some good German food. If you make it back to Columbus Schmidt's is a very tasty pitstop. Thurman's is really good as well.
Wild Bill actually spent some time walking around the area but ended up at Thurman’s!
@@BasementBrandon tell me you got the Thurmunator.
not sure who makes the best collars, i didnt like eleiko's collars either but they do stay in place
Seems you're not alone with the thoughts about eleiko.
Awesome video
Thanks, appreciate it!
What you think about Titex Powerlifting Competition Collars
Same basic principles here, however they do occasionally go on sale.
they would be ok on squats and bench though right?
Yeah, the only downside is it's a bit of an annoyance to loosen/tighten them when changing weight
I guess you havnt heard about Werk San 2.5kg collars, those are used in the actual Olympics, they retail for about 300 dollars, they are the most elite, no collars cost more than that, also check out Uesaka equipment
I know Werk-San, but they are made for olympic weightlifting vs powerlifting. Their USA store went out of business.
@@BasementBrandon oh that's a shame, yeah I'm more of a powerlifter, I do more powerlifting movements like deadlift. I think it depends if you drop the weight more often, spring collars are better for that, spring will absorb energy better than solid steel collar, but a big 2.5kg collar is more for just adding weight. I do think spring collar has a place it just sucks they are harder to put on and take off lol
The titex ones seem to be quite a bit cheaper. Not sure if they are any good though
They are nice for the price!
@@BasementBrandon good stuff! Ive never even considered these type of collars but im a bit like yourself. I like the idea of keeping it close to meet conditions
$150.00 for collars? You can get the CAP Barbell OB86PCK for a few bucks less than that. Also, the IVANKO plates, featured in the company commercial you included in your video, often vary in weight by 2 to 4 lbs. The commercial gym in my hometown has them and I actually felt a difference when I put one on a barbell while training. I weighed it and, sure enough, it was 47lbs. However, one of the other IVANKO plates weighed less than 45lbs. I had always used them assuming they were more accurate than the other, generic, plates.
Those particular plates are cast iron, which leads to more variance that say calibrated or milled plates. 2 to 4 lbs isn't actually a big amount compared to some of the variations from other brands. I recently say a post from someone with a CAP brand 45 that weighed almost 56lbs lol.
@@BasementBrandon Certainly, Mark Rippetoe once found one that weighed 56lbs, I believe. However, I was just surprised by how varied the IVANKO plates were relative to some of the cheap generics in the gym. My super-old cast iron York 75lb plates are exactly 75lbs.
Ashley McLaughlin yeah those old York’s and old Ivanko were top notch. Newer stuff not so much.
My brain is hurting just thinking about doing the math and having to minus 10~lbs from how I would normally load the bar. Lock Jaw style collars that don't really weigh anything for the win.
Yeah when I was using them I'd use a quick bar loading app like you'd see at a meet to help lol
Eleiko has the same design type of collars that don't come lose between reps, but you're gonna pay much more than $150/pair. Schnell makes a better and simpler design than either Ivanko or Eleiko.
Was not aware, will give a look
You gonna review the new rogue ones?
Prob not, I don't think comp collars make sense for most people.
that thing about don't staying tight, just add a rubber lock washer to it (y)
Could, but that adds more pain in the ass problems to it!
@@BasementBrandon for sure, but perhaps you could contact the manufacturer to give em that solution, I'm telling this as an engineer, the fact that doesn't stay tight is solely due to vibrations, so the element should work as a dampler
Would you say the Genesis Jack is still holding up well?
Yep! use it every deadlift day!
@@BasementBrandon Great to know, thanks man!
Rogue hg 2.0 are the best I’ve ever used.
Right on!
$150 and I can't even pop the collar?
hey now
@@BasementBrandon you're an allstar
1:34 ivanko "one of the most well known names when it comes to strength equipment and powerlifting" clearly not if everyones calling it "ivonko" 😂😂
Just like some people say E-Lee-ko and others say E-lie-ko
Brandon where could I get one of those LIFT flags you have behind you?
It's from Massenomics
Link for that hoodie?
It was from A7
Powerlifters need to have those types of collars made with a rubber o ring between the two pieces so they cant get stuck.
Yeah they are a pain in the ass when that happens.
Are you giving them away? Asking for a friend
Yes, for free, but you have to pay the $150 shipping.
I just bought your A7 shirt my brotein
My man, many thanks.
Not even with your money.
Who's money?
@@TheShred89 brads, aka lv 35 boss
ayyy
So your no longer in love with that dense, heavy coc, huh? 😂
Just less dense.
im pretty sure i thought it was ee-vanko for some reason so I feel pretty dumb now lmao
It's still I vank o to me damn it!
I'll take that third coc off your hands.
hey now
Shit if Russell Orhii can be a top 2 181 using pound plates $150 collars probably ain't worth it
Lol
Thank you for the review. I'll skip these beautiful collars and buy much needed other equipment.
Def hard to recommend comp collars to anyone
But they sure do look pretty!
Haha true
No way. That’s insanely overpriced.
I think in context to other brands it's "fair" but agreed in general way too much
You didn't say stay big. I don't know how I will get big now.
Need time to catch up
Strong beard
Now only if my body could keep up
I'll never pay $150 for another man's COG's!!
Never say never...
Nope
lol
What’s with the name change again😂 stick to one!😂
Same channel name, just put my commenting name to me :)
Lol, I’m fine with my $10 pair of spring clips
Right on
no.
Fair.
All the gear no idea
Ajay k
Stay big
Feeling small these days
Lol no way
Could buy a lot of other stuff for that amount
Lol at them being calibrated. So what? Like anyone in a competition is going to think "Oh I just deadlifted 600 pounds, but did I really deadlift 600 pounds, or was it 599.88?"
Actually yes.
if i spent a lot of money on expensive as comp plates might aswell go all out and buy the collars
Makes sense!
Bring back the beard 🤣
🧔🏻♂️
Wouldn’t spend $150 on collars, but that beard on the other hand...
Hey now!
$ 150 wtf.
Yeeeep!
EyE van CO 🤦🏽♂️👍🏽😎
Lol
This is like buying a gold toilet
lol you can shit in both if you want.
I see dat Yeezus
;)
Hey, my favorite RI ambiguously gay, married with child lumberjack with a "strangely" placed white patch in the beard! Oh the collars. No.
Well done.
The only collars i like are starched and popped.
lol
Dude that thing ( especially after the whole crossfit trend ) got ridiculus. Weight is weight. Either you buy a $2 per kg or a 6$ per kg or a fucking $10 per kg plate for 99.5% of people out there it's NOT gonna make a difference. Its overpriced , its bad VFM , its not scalable and the only reediming factor is you can probably sell them to other showoffs in the secondhand market for a decent price later. Rogue, Eleiko ,Ivanko especially. Unless you people think that a weight plate or a collar or even a barbel or a bench needs some king of high tech - high skill production. IT DOESNT. Its one of the most basic industrial(maybe not even) product ever. Even the calibration should be a basic thing along the rest of the quality control , its damn easy. But there are people that will keep buying overpriced products so those who produce them wont have the initiative to up their game. Its the same thing that happens in the music instrument industry , the technology is basically stuck at late 70's because people keep buying simple transistors basically for crazy amounts of money .
I think you're off on your points here. There is a difference for sure, the question is more are you the type of person who cares or not.
cocs lol
coc locks
Hell fucking no.
Fair enough lol
Beards lookin filthy!
And no I wouldn’t pay that for collars....at this point in time, but when u have some extra cash why the fook not!
Lol good point
Fuckin absurd tbh
Yeah def a bit steep
Nuh.
Not worth it.
Yeah tough one to find a reason for
