  • My kids homework supplies were always sitting on my kitchen table and it was too messy... So I decided to build a new kitchen table that will have built in storage to get the mess out of the way! I also wanted to experiment with some new techniques and ideas. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome and learned a ton along the way!

Love this project, such a lovely finished product. If I were to have a go, I think I'd add a hole/mounting point for a lazy susan type spinning thing in the centre that sits on top. For those meals with the family where you just have far too much on the table haha. You may have heard this already and I apologize in advance if you have, I'd suggest flipping the legs onto the upside down table top rather than fight the large top, then you can fix it down easier also then simply roll it onto it edge and up.

I usually hate staining wood ,bc the „vintage look“ or darkening the wood to make it look more expensive, which many people want to achieve, just looks cheap and tacky and disgusting . However your super black stain is just absolutely stunning and I love how it accentuates the pattern of the ash tree wood and the combo with the (I think the color is called forest) Eames plastic chairs is just marvelous !

When joining boards together like when you made the table top put the cupping of the end grains opposite of each board when joining. One up, the next one down, etc. That way if the board grain still has internal pressure and it wants to cup each board will put stress on each other in the opposite direction they may want to bow, cup, twist, etc and they'll help hold each other in place into place. Don't think that would be a problem with some woods and especially if it's quarter sawn as opposed to plain sawn but it's a good general rule to follow for a job like your table top. You may know this and ten times more than I know and apologize if I my intention is seen in other than good light.; I am amazed at your woodwork and have learned more from you than I could ever teach you. Thank you and appreciate your videos, love them. I agree with Dave P, Seriously impressive work!!!

Jason over at Bourbon Moth actually does his large circles exactly how you ended up doing yours for the purpose that he wants to only do one pass with the circle jig just in case it moves slightly. So he gets one good round pass, then uses the flush trim bit. I personally have never had issue with my (even homemade) jigs shifting on me, but just know that some people do it the way you did intentionally
