You really "get" Barbra. Your reaction came from the hear and from the brain. Keep 'em coming. Also, get a load of Sarah Vaughan if you haven't already done so. Complimenti!
The final scene from the film "Funny Girl". After Barbra received the Best Actress Oscar, the song was retitled "How To Win An Academy Award In 3 Minutes Or Less."
Love it your reaction!!! Please don't miss her performance of Starting here, starting now from her tv show color me barbra. She rocks as well, and would be nice to see your reaction.
This is the final scene from Funny Girl. It’s a song that the real Fanny Brice who Barbra is portraying actually performed in real life and was not from the score of the Broadway show. This scene no doubt sealed her Oscar win for Best Actress.
Back in this era songs were very short so one has to re-listen to a piece like this one to evaluate the greatness. The vocals are magnificent. There are so many songs to react to. Her career is long long. "Prisoner" is one of my faves. But she has done so many things.
@@fkd1963 Ha! I just replied to someone with almost the exact same words you did! I don't think she mentions this in her book. We techniphiles know when it's real and when it's Memorex.
SHE'S STILL ONE OF THE BEST.. REMEMBER SHE HAS TO FOLLOW THE PRODUCERS DIRECTION. THEY DID TO ALOT OF GOOD SINGERS. THIS IS A MOVIE. ON LIVE STAGE SHE'S A STAR.✨️✨️✨️✨️
My Mom made me watch this movie at 11 because she knows I love to perform…This exact performance while watching “Funny Girl” made me realize that this woman is an actor first and a singer second and she blew me away at 11 years old. I’ve loved her movies and albums ever since. 🥹
Barbra said it is one thing to have "The Voice" but it another to make you feel the song as if it was you going through the feeling from beginning to the end is another thing
Did you know this song is a cover of a French song ("Mon homme" by Mistinguett) ? One of Barbra's greatest signature song for sure ! The song is from the movie "Funny girl". Watched the movie one night without expecting something in particular, just knew it was a famous musical. At the end of Barbra's first song in the movie, "I'm the greatest star" : bang ! That was it ! I knew I just witnessed something extraordinary and became a fan instantly ! Had the privilege to saw her on tour in Paris in 2007 with my husband. No need to say that when she sung this, Barbra + "My man" + MY man : I was nothing but a weeping thing all along ! One of the greatest concert I attended in my whole life !
Patty-The first album I heard of hers was I Am Barbra. I believe that was her second album. I was 15 yrs old. I am currently 74, and I still love and respect her.
This moment is so good!!! It's from the final scene in Funny Girl. They originally did a voiceover, but when she watched it back, she told the directors that she needed to sing this live. I'd highly recommend watching the movie if you haven't watched it already and check out her audiobook.
You said it perfectly, great to see a man verbalize the impact of Barbra’s understanding of love, it’s immense and it shows. We show hate, disapproval at the drop of a hat, we need to show love even more.
Your critic was right on. I was lucky to be raised to appreciate everything from boogie woogie to swing to old time ballads to rock n roll etc. How to appreciate a drum solo to a flutist. Well done young man. I appreciate you!
Barbra Streisand is a wonderful, powerful singer with gentle and strong vocals that can be sustained for a long time. "One hand, One heart" another great duet.." Tomorrow, Tomorrow" by Barbra and" and I believe in Love" more song from. Her.. Thanks Pat.. Nice to have you back with Babs.
Seeing this during first release, on a big screen, was a revelation of what greatness looked like live. Those almost disconnected white hands, rising up on the black screen as the last note soared, left an indelible mark.
I completely agree, this is talent from the time she started performing until today, this was her first movie Funny Girl, great movie, includes her signature song People and won her an Academy Award
I get chills every time I hear this version! Legend! Check out the finale of the movie A Star Is Born, "With One More Look at You", another outstanding performance!
I grew up with Barbra Streisand in my house as a child and then as an adult-she has always been a part of my life. With every triumph and disappointment, there was a Streisand song. You can never know what it was like to run home with a newly released Streisand album, put it on and get chills listening to her. I would recommend On a Clear Day You Can See Forever as well as You're the Top--perhaps the most amazing and sizzling rendition of the old Cole Porter song.
singing well is hard but from a crying voice and live this is so hard she is not singing she is acting feeling every lines every words !!! watch end performance of her Star is Born "with one more look at you/wacht closely now" same and more emotion performance incredible.... she is always great always
Fanny Brice recorded this song in 1921. "Funny Girl" is, of course, a "Hollywood" account of Fanny's life but the song fits perfectly with her relationship with her swindler husband, Nicky Arnstein. She maintained his innocence and spent her resources for his defense. Unfortunately, it turned out that he was just a low-life con man who used her. Barbra portrayed her excellently on Broadway and in the movie.
This song was first done by Barbra lip syncing. But Barbra said she could do it much better if she could sing it live. That's what they used the live song. From Funny Girl 1968 she won the Oscar for this movie her first.❤😊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Well I'm glad you got to listen to some early Barbara that was 1968 from the movie funny girl you really have to listen to the whole s p a n d of Barbra Streisand's career to understand her vocal evolution the Sound of her early voice is totally different than it was in the-70-80s and 90 in the early 60s Streisand voice had a unique sound to it that kind of mellowed out into a fuller smoother voice but it did lose some of that unique quirky sound believe me her voice is always amazing and I've been a fan for her is 40 years since I was a young teenager and first heard the guilty album I've been looking up to see your live three times in 1994 2000 in 2019 there has never been and will never be another Barbra Streisand
Barbra makes love most a sickness- a fatal disease you don’t get over. Watching this as a child ( I’m 62) I wished that when I fell in love that I fell 100 percent and I did.- twice Lol.
She sang this live on stage for the filming of the ending of Funny Girl. Barbra insisted for emotional impact . Most of time they pre-record the song then when they film the performer lip syncs. The very soft spoken beginning is pre-recorded then when she lays into it then it’s recorded live.
Oh and btw, I recommend you to listen to the great Lady Gaga and great Bruno Mars´ new song. I´m so surprised they did a collabo. Bruno takes music releases slow. Gaga works so much more (when it comes to releases, now also in movies). Anyway, is it so good. I don´t even know why they released a song but take it a listen!
Barbra is definitely the best of our generation but she is part of a long line of goats and in 1964 , as a young and relatively new performer, she got to perform with one of the greats of the previous generation and it was magical. Please react to this duet of Barbra with the late, great Judy garland ua-cam.com/video/zFVxX3RtyhQ/v-deo.html I don`t believe you`ll be sorry if you do.
She sang this better on her TV special. In the film the first half is LIVE talking - then switches to pre record singing for the final chorus and big finish. It's a great end to the movie but not her best vocal performance of the song. And young Streisand is so NASAL. By the way - Barbra left out the whole bridge of the song where her man - BEATS her TOO. Listen to Billie Holiday or Diana Ross sing this song if you want to hear a true interpretation of the heartbreak of a great, tragic, Torch Song. Here it is just a vehicle for Streisand's voice. This song is from 1921.
You really "get" Barbra. Your reaction came from the hear and from the brain. Keep 'em coming.
Also, get a load of Sarah Vaughan if you haven't already done so. Complimenti!
You’re right-I’m 65 & I’ve always known I’m listening to the rarest of greatest when I’m listening to Barbra
I’ve said it many times: There’s Barbra Streisand, and then there is everyone else.
The final scene from the film "Funny Girl". After Barbra received the Best Actress Oscar, the song was retitled "How To Win An Academy Award In 3 Minutes Or Less."
Would love to see your reaction to On Holy Ground.
Unparalleled as an actresses' singer. The power and emotional expression is like nothing ever seen since Garland.
Barbra is a fellow NYer (Brooklyn)…an EGOT. Shes just amazing. Shes only 23 here. ❤❤

Funny Girl is a must see. Barbra is in a league of her own. GOAT.
The first half is live and the second half is lipped from My Name Is Barbra, 1965 LP. Why that vocal? Does she say in the book?
@@fkd1963 Ha! I just replied to someone with almost the exact same words you did! I don't think she mentions this in her book. We techniphiles know when it's real and when it's Memorex.

Arguably the best live vocal performance ever; between her et Judy Garland's 'Old Man River' on her t.v. show.
The greatest star! Love her song By The Way from Lazy Afternoon album. Would be awesome to see your reaction 👍
Barbra said it is one thing to have "The Voice" but it another to make you feel the song as if it was you going through the feeling from beginning to the end is another thing
I’m yelling from the rooftops… please review Barbra singing A piece of sky from the movie Yentl…. Powerhouse perfection…

A very expressive, singer, in the genre of musical theatre.

She was fantastic here. You should check out Judy Garland singing Old Man River. It will blow your away
That’s from the film … omg I love her ❤
This is one of my favorite songs by Barbra Streisand. The song is featured in the film "Funny Girl."

Yes, but....only the first half of this is live. The second half used her recording from her 1965 album, My Name Is Barbra. It's true.

IT IS FROM FUNNY GIRL. Itibs s story of Fanny Brice and her boss Flo Ziegfeld in the 20s.
Pre-nauseating?
Anyway, you must hear her version of
"One Less Bell To Answer/A House Is Not A Home". She does a duet with herself. It's amazing!
Beyonce gave a nod to this classic look when she sang "The Way We Were" at the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony for Barbra.
