Streisand is the best singer of my lifetime. Her abilities are heaven sent
No, they are not..they are a happy genetic fluke in where she has the talent AND the interest AND the opportunity
Streisand's vocal performance of 'If I Didn't Love You' is exceptional. Her breath control and phrasing are unmatched. I fail to even consider anyone doing a better job. Barbra truly is a galaxy of talent among lesser stars.
Fifty years ago, Barbra had me under her spell. Think I drove my family crazy listening to her vinyls. Still love her.
know what you'r talking about!
Great analysis. I think what hits me about Barbra is the way she emotes. As you say, she acts the song like a scene in a play. Beautiful clarity and purity in her voice too ❤
Mama o man never ever will be a voice like this again God blessed her throat and gave us the best
John, I never mind it when you pause because your analyses are always both relevant and illuminating, and I especially appreciate that you give special attention to rhythm, it's such a crucial part of what makes a performance land. And Barbra is a legend of course, truly unmatched
i agree , today the best singers around can't hold a candle to her esp.Barbra in her prime ....just GORGEOUS VOICE , SO BEAUTIFUL TO listen ✨to ❤️🔥💞❣️💜💥🙏✨🎶🎶🎶🎵🎶🎤🎶🎶🎵🎶🎶her voice is a gift 🎀🎶🎶
I’d be interested in seeing your reaction to “He Touched Me” from A Happening in Central Park (1967). The whole concert is spectacular, but that particular performance gives me chills and I’ve easily listened to it over 100xs
I appreciate you reacting to Barbra because not alot of people are. I hope you do more of her ❤
"Perfection" is the perfect word to describe Barbra Streisand. And to think, she never had any vocal training... that's all innate natural talent and instinct. And another remarkable thing about Barbra, you never hear her perform a song the same way, no matter how many times she's sung it. She sings in the moment. Some things just can't be taught. Enjoyed your professional take on inarguably (to me anyway), the greatest vocalist ever.
She also had in her contract that she never had to sing anything that didn't come naturally to her. She took less money to do so, but was spared the risk of failure at someone else's behest.
@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Exactly! She would say...'I don't care about the money, I want control over my work.' And "The Broadway Album" is a perfect testament to that.
@@donnamentrasti2695 Established stars can get that without a great fuss. She pulled it off before she was a star, singing third-rate clubs in second-hand dresses.
@Spo-Dee-O-Dee She's one of a kind!"
I have been a Barbra fan since the mid-60's, and she still astounds. I have two Streisand playlists saved, one is 20-odd performances (the list changes occasionally as youtube removes some videos from the site), in chronological order, ranging from her as a nineteen-year-old making her network tv debut on 'The Tonight Show' to her last tour (The Music, The Mem'ries, The Magic). All astounding performances, all LIVE, and the vast majority performed way before any kind of autotuning or 'sweetening' of the vocal line ever considered, and usually not even possible. The other playlist I love to listen to is her 'My Man' playlist, consisting of live performances of this song ranging from this one, to her performance of the song in the film 'Funny Girl', to a tv special promoting "Funny Lady" in the 70's, performing it during her first live concert in twenty-some years at the MGM Grand in 1993, and then two other concerts from 2006 and 2019. Has she had to alter keys and gained some hoarseness and lost some of her ability to hold those notes so wonderfully long as she aged? Absolutely. Did she EVER sing it the same way twice? Absolultely NOT!!! Her musical conductor and arranger for the 2006 tour said something along the lines of: "I know where My Man starts and where we will basically end, but I never know exactly how she is going to get there". Some singers are honestly mediocre vocalists when looked at strictly for the quality of their singing, but are still great singers because of how they can interpret and perform the song. And then there are some fantastically talented singers who have uncanny precision and unique vocal talents, but while they are performing 'perfectly' they may please your ears without warming your heart. Barbra's voice touches my soul and I will always be glad that I was alive to be able to hear this glorious singer.
She is amazing.
Babs is absolutely amazing! It is mind blowing that some artists have the body awareness to develop this high of a level of technique on their own. I am still teaching, but hearing someone this great really inspires me to start singing ore myself. Thank you for this great analysis.
I love how excited you are listening to her because I feel the exact same way! Thanks for the analysis.
Fabuleuse, talentueuse, une magicienne ❤❤❤
Great stuff John. Fun to hear it from a virtuoso and to see you so exuberant over it make it a pleasure to watch.
Thank you for such a beautiful reaction and analysis. Barbara is one and only. My favourite female vocal. Warm greetings from Serbia.
Not sure how to request one of your excellent reactions/breakdowns but listening to you break down the incredible Dan Vasc's performances would be an education. His range is phenomenal . His list of covers is huge. A metal singer with 10 years classical training and the control of a seasoned opera singer, who can sing anything [almost literally] . "Metal singer sings Amazing Grace" should tell you something. And he's done Nessun Dorma too . And to stay on topic, love Barbra. Old enough to have watched her films in the cinema : ) Thanks for the reaction.
Brilliant technical breakdown. Thank you.
Thank you!
Everything you said is soooo true and it is vexxing to see so few views on these reaction videos of some of the greatest singers because they are somehow forgotten by present generation. Especially since these are artists from a pre autotune/pitchcorrection days. From the era when to become a singer you had to be able to actually sing. And to become one of the greats you had to be an actually Great singer.
btw if you want to hear another excellent singer more to date..check out Zhou Shen from China! You will enjoy for sure
Pitch correction is as old as tape...before digital tools it was a bit more labor-intensive and required "REAL TALENT!!"
Quite a bit different than the movie version a few years later - more jazzy , less high notes
A true gift from above
Thankyou for showing
Please react to Gabriel Henrique, from Brazil. I'd be interested on your take.
I wish you would react to the other perfect singer of the 20th century - Judy Garland.
Her duet with Barbra Streisand is a classic. Happy Days are here again.
Her finale in the Get Happy finale of the movie Summerstock is also outstanding.
She has the best version imo of Old Man River.
Great analysis. Most of these " coach " reactions are alot of guff. Not this one.
My all time favorite singer, actor, director…..and person. The only singer that has similar dynamics in her songs is Lara Fabian .
No comparison. Streisand is it in her prime. Lara Fabian is a Celine wannabe.
@@SamuelM.-iz1unOh hell to the NO Sam. Lara is NOT a Celine wannabe. Her idol is Streisand.
@@SamuelM.-iz1unOh hell to the No. Lara idolizes Streisand (as do I.) A Celine wannabe she is not.
Curios your reaction to the movie version from The movie Yentl - A PIECE OF SKY
I think it’s her penultimate performance caught on screen with I guess studio overdubbing for obvious reasons
Thankyou
Barbra in her recent memoir said she did not have voice or musical training. That it is all by instinct. And that she does not do vocal exercises or warmups, only just before she is doing a concert or recording, which can every 4 to 6 years long.
She did sing in chorus in HS and you can get a good grounding in fundamental musicianship there. Fun fact - Neil Diamond was in it too but they never interacted.
I heartily suggest you listen to this song by Kathy Kirby..... A. M. A. Z. I. N. G.!
👍👍👍
No one has the vocal dynamics of Streisand
She's been performing for over 60 years. You might want to learn how to pronounce her last name. There is no Z in iy. It is simply two syllables Strei and Sand.
Maybe you could use this to remember how to pronounce her name.
When you go to the beach
You will see wet sand and dry sand, but you probably will not see Streisand.
Say it like this: STRY - SAND😊
Belting...because the house is too big for your voice.
