I didn't realize you were making the "sliding weight" style hub. I'll be interested in seeing the balance procedure for that type hub. It looks great to me. I may have missed the point but you seem dissatisfied with the surface finish of the taper? I think if it matches it's mating part and locks up tight, it should repeat and function perfectly. No one will see it when it's on the grinder anyway. Tc, Mike
It won’t have weights inside it Mike, on my grinder it needs that relief init to fit, it will have a ring of bolt hole on it like the other one I did, the finish isn’t the issue it’s the fit on the taper, I’m going to have another go at it before I take it of the lathe, I’m just a bit pissed of with it at the moment usually when this happens (not very often I must add) I leave it alone for a couple days and have a think then go back, I’ll get it right I recon. Thanks Al.
If i understand correctly you say you dont have enough cross slide travel, simple answer turn the top slide to be over the cross slide then you can feed in further with it. Edit scrub that i forgot you were set up for a taper.😢 Edit no2 when cutting tapers and you need to get the mating part is say 0.5mm, dont widen the cut with the cross slide but move the saddle in 0.5mm. simple when you think about it, only took me a few years though.😢
Hi Alan, You might not have enjoyed making it too much but I certainly enjoyed watching you make it. Stay safe. Cheers
Cheers Paul, glad you enjoyed, me not so much.
Al.
Greetings from Belarus. Please tell me what angle was set when turning the cone, and to what depth was it turning? Thanks
