- It's the last race of the year and both cars are at their peak. Both the EG6 and AE82 have their best version of their respective engines swapped in (4AGE 20v Black Top and B18C5). Both have suspension upgrades and both have good drivers. The Corolla and the Civic each have a win under their belt which one will win the final battle?

Little cars are so much fun to drive. I don't care if someone's mustang/camaro/challenger/pick-up can out run me on the straight. I can take a corner at least 5mph faster without any loss of traction.
And I can park it anywhere, too.

...So it's not really engine vs engine, car vs car, but 100% driver vs driver :)
Edit: Don't do wide turns with low displacement fwd.

I love your reviews and track tests because for one thing, there are very few people with an FX16 that are doing anything like this, and for two, the editing is spot on. The ghost overlays of the cars on the runs is such a cool touch. Looking forward to more next year.

That ghost vs ghost matchup editing is nice.
Jordon Cox who drives a red Shingo EG6 is damn fast on the track and you can see his car lifting the rear wheel at the high speed corners.
I felt the ghost matchup lets you see in real time where each car is gaining and losing time.
@@sushpants I like it, lets me see which car's faster in which sections. EG6 has better straight line but AE82 has it on cornering.
i have heard this means you are achieving the maximum grip the car is capable of when the inside rear wheel lifts mid turn (on fwd hatchbacks), is it true?
@@ronald6756 The idea with a fwd is to have a really stiff swaybar in the rear, in order to put more load on the outside rear tire to take weight off the front. The front obviously tends to get overloaded easily on a fwd cat. So when you see a car lifting a rear wheel, it means that this has been done. However there's all sorts of other factors that could still make the car corner better or worse.
Fucking love that EG6, it's so nice and with the B18, god damn it roars. I don't know his setup, but he didn't seem confident on the turns, maybe his tires aren't sticky or the suspension is lacking, but even still, what a beaut. God damn, gotta love small japanese cars. They've literally created the most car enthusiasts in the world.

@@sushpants its surprising how much of a difference they make worth the money tho IMO. It Would be nice to see a video in the ghost style on a track of you with open diff vs LSD.

That second to last left hander (in the comparative slalom compilation part) looks like its giving your front tires trouble a little bit. Troubles of a fwd working HARD! You put up a hell of a fight see what you were up against!

Haha, the RE71Rs are pretty sticky, but Jonathan's Civic is on Dunlop's Z2 star specs which aren't too far behind.
@@sushpants 71Rs are definitely the ST tire to have. I'm going to run in FSP next year so I'll be looking for Hoosiers in the off season.

Awesome, c160 seems to have tighter gear ratios thats what might be giving it the leg up, but yeah its lsd time. I don't know how much you like your power steering but have you looked into the manual rack off a aw11 with the quaife quick ratio rack and pinion kit and it will help the 20v get rid of a little bit parasitic draw from the pump. You might have to hit the gym a little more or just drive more twisties after its installed :D
The c160 is great for staying in the powerband. Would the aw11 rack fit in the corolla? if it does, i think i would seriously consider the swap.
I don't know for sure. I know ae86 guys swap to aw11 racks, If I still had my ae82 i would have tried it. Im thinking it should, maybe with different combinations of '82 c brackets, bushings, inner tie rods with '11 bracket, bushings and rods and maybe different length end splined column shaft
I had my AE82 without power steering pump and no a/c pulley either. Freed some decent power but hard on your arms, very fatiguing.

i'm running an stiffer front and rear sway bar and MRP coilovers which are 6k/4k. The stock suspension with the original 4age was fine, but after the 20v swap the suspension was overwhelmed. The car is a lot faster now needed the upgrade suspension.
@@sushpants What kind of weight balance do you have? I find with a stiffer front roll center the steering feels good, but then the car doesn't want to rotate as well so I changed to 4k/5k. I don't have a FX16 but figure there's some similarity with my 2000 Insight. I wish you lived nearby so you could drive my car and give some advice on setting it up.
Love your FX-16 GTS. I love the AE82 as much as the AE86 and AW11. I'd love to have a street tuned AW11 to go against that.

The AE82 is lighter, but not by much. The EG6 is the CX model which was the base model and also the lightest of the EG6 hatches.

I had the equipment to do it but this track is located within an airport and you can’t fly a drone within 5 miles of an active airport.

Is your current suspension setup stiff enough?
It could be stiffer, but then that would destroy it as a daily driver. I wanted to make fast hatchback that can handle bumpy back roads without skipping over them. Right now the balance is very good.

@ Aaron BryanI think it's because they were objectively ugly. I've owned one, delivered pizza in it. Lost my license from tickets (points.) It was like that episode of Top Gear where they try to kill the Hilux, except it went on for 2 + years. Small fire, a large Chrysler, ran it with the oil light blinking a whole shift, hit a curb hard, blow out on the freeway, nothing killed it. Would have traded mine for a Civic, but mine wasn't the 4AGE FX16.

I can’t even find this car for sale anywhere, I’m trying to find an old car I can autocross or rally, love the style of 80’s hatchbacks but they are damn expensive. Do you have any ideas of where to look?
The FX16's a really hard to find, especially ones in good shape. You can join some of the FX16 facebook groups, people list their cars on there and post other FX's for sale in their areas.
The Honda EF hatchbacks are pretty similar. There’s also the Mazda 323 (particularly the gtx if you can find one). I found my FX16 after months of searching because I wanted the FX16 GTS version which was the best one to get. Setup a search notification on eBay motors to see if one ever pops ups there too.

The 6 speed gearbox is from a Levin BZR (AE111). It really keeps the 4AGE in the sweet spot between every gear change.

I think you guys need better drivers... dude didn’t even remember to turn. What’s the point of the type r swap if driver can’t keep revs up? He keeps dropping below the big ass power band.
My FoRS is probably 2 times as heavy and would have done that in half the time. When I remove the back seat I can hit high 11s in the quarter. Cant imagine what it would be like if I gutted it like a 30 year old junkyard honda. Its amazing these cars can even move with how little power they make, using fail wheel drive.
