Seeing that beautiful header get beat to death instead of notching the frame is fantastically depressing. But not as depressing as seeing those crush bent dreams of an exhaust. 😭😭😭 Sounds good. Better than before. But man. That got me.
I see that all the time in classic cars where the beat the headers in to make them fit properly but I do agree here that maybe in this case it wouldn’t have been a big deal for a notch that small. But if you wanna see something that’s truly a shame, watch someone drop a big block V8 into an a-body dodge/Plymouth without buying proper headers. Watch them beat both the wheel wells and the headers in with a hammer to make it fit. That’ll bring a tear to the eye
@@alexstromberg7696 well. you'd be right about that since the headers are way too big for that car anyway and in fact kill the scavenging. however a small notch in a car like this wont hurt it. its not worth a whole lot anyway

Rewatching these videos as my inspiration to mess with my 4A-FE raised it's head again :D One of the drawbacks on all of these 4A-(F/G)E engines is the lack of space in front of the engine. It's a pain in the butt to get that exhaust out of there, and the oil filter is not in much better position either...
Loved the open header sound, sounds like a race car. Reminded me of when my eg was open header right after my swap and I swear vtec cracked way hard. Now that it's all buttoned up with resonator and cat, I don't think I have vtec anymore lol. Great vid.
That is one cherry FX16!!! Loved that car as a kid. Clean setup too. Love my 2ZZ tho, but the 4A is a rare bird of prey. You sir earned a sub and my respect 💯
The dream :O I've a (my first car) E12 corolla 1.4 (4zz-fe), few mods mk2 mx5 wheels, h&R 35mm springs, a trd wing and soon a custom muffler. One day I'll have one of these little gems, anything with a 4age I'll be happy with!
An eagle eyed viewer! You are correct! After I filmed the exhaust on the lift, I asked the shop why there wasn’t one there. They realized that they forgot to put one in and welded in a flex joint about 5” after the coupling.
Sounds absolutely wicked!! I LOVE THIS CHANNEL!! Look how beautiful our beloved Northern California is!! Amazing video... don't stop! (Hey Charles the HM, do this type of content with JUST the mk4 R32! From top to bottom!😉)
Sounds cool men, but i think it sounds just a litlle too boomy. But well, that's just me that love the natural raspiness of the Italians. Great project mate, keep going.
Always enjoy your videos. The stock 20v header actually flows quite well. Any performance gains are likely a result of your other exhaust upgrades. Consider ceramic coating the header.
I'd replace the studs too before they snap. Undoing and tightening those nuts again to new spec when you replaced the header introduces new stresses (and stretch?) to the 30 year old studs. I found that out the hard way when one snapped a week after installing my new header.
The engine is out of a 99 Toyota Levin BZR and I did a full rebuild on it 4 years ago. New practically everything so I wasn’t worried about the studs. The original bluetop 4age was at 240k and lost compression, I decided to build the 20 valve instead.
Cherry Bomb Vortex Muffler. Its not a glasspack.... its more akin to a straight through design with a baffle. Its in insane design. It also deepens the tone of any engine its put on. I put one on my subaru, I did 3" pipe, catback, custom made, to the cherry bomb. And it made the subaru super low tone. And the great thing is, when cruising, its quiet, and only really loud when full throttle. I would highly recommend it if you plan to go custom exhaust. As far as buying parts, not a fan, so I can't suggest anything on that regards. It would make the car sound amazing. And, its high flow, as high flow as noisy and ugly sounding glasspacks. So its like a double win. high flow but better tonality.
That header is probably too big for how little power that engine makes I’m pretty sure. Great for sound I guess but the pipes might be too big for effective scavenging, which could in fact be detrimental to performance unless you can find a way to make some more power. That’s just my two cents
Nice. I recently put a martelius header and decat on my fx16. Thinking about getting some sort of resonator instead of a test pipe to get rid of the rasp
Tooo much nice! 🤤 Sounds beast! However a bigger exhaust tip would make it sound a bit deeper too. But great addition to the mod list nonetheless 👌👍 Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
YES! The legend returns! All hail the 4A-GE and it’s glorious noises.
2zzge and 3sge too
Yeah it sounds better with these upgrades?
The ground letterally rattles when someone put open headers ore itb's on a 4 cylinder
What's nice about these old cars is that they are much easier to work on
And I love how the 4A-GE sound is so easily recongizable

Oh shit the new exhaust system sound exactly like the old 4A-GE 20v powered Dori King's 86 !
Absolutely in-love with your fantastic representation of the 4A-GE
The new piece they put in to connect the header is crush bent and will definatly be stealing a few hp. have a look at 6:11 to see
Just looking at that engine bay made me miss my 20v. You've got a good lookin car that sounds great and so much fun to drive....
Thanks for sharing..
She sounds amazing man !

Me an intellectual: increases volume
Can you still hear me now?
The sound is deeper than before sounds better I like it
Mamma mia pronunciation approved by an Italian: 10/10, I say it the same way 😁

Just got home from driving my AE111 20v, what a treat!
Rebuilding a Ke70, to take in an 4AGE or a 2JZ can't decide yet.
The comparison at 9mins was good.
Before and after both sound good, 4ag sounds 🤤
So glad to see you on youtube again! because of you i upgraded to 100mm stacks and made more power!
When you can still hear the ITB's from behind, that's when you know it's a good exhaust build! 😎
That stock header was actually very well designed n built for a stocky
His stock was Rusty and I think it had a hole in it..his new exhaust flows just right.
1:12 that pb blaster :0 Love the videos man keep it up!
Nice to see someone still working on a 4AGE, even though I prefer the sound of the old exhaust. Keep up the good work!
I have to say, I love the old exhaust note too. Sounds more old school. Takes me back to my first car....
