- I Say a Little Prayer by Aretha Franklin is featured in Showmance, the second episode of Season One. It is sung by Quinn with Brittany and Santana as back-up.
This is their audition song for the New Directions. They audition so that Quinn can see what happens between Finn and Rachel, and to spy on the Glee Club under Sue's orders. All three of them join the New Directions after this performance.

It was a choir. Heather and Naya were not credited for this song and didn’t sing on track till later in the season/series.

@@bigblobofnothing5727 look up the album for glee volume 1, they were only credited as actresses for the first half of the season. Also, most of the cast didn't actually sing back up when they are filmed singing back up, because they are a lot more expensive than hired background vocalists.
E J Dexter yes that’s what I thought, but there are some group numbers they do where it’s not just soloist and they choose different cast members for some songs like jump and bust a move

She wasn’t always a strong singer to begin with but her voice is unique. And the way she dance is very graceful

She's a great singer but Ryan Murphy wanted a higher pitched voice for the character of Quinn Fabray. Diana Agron real voice is much deeper

I will never not be impressed how Naya and Heather made their characters from 'background bitches' to hilarious, complex, dynamic main characters who carried the show AND managed to bring several good social critiques while doing it, WHILE also remaining kind and modest people others love to be around. Miss you forever, Naya, you and Heather were the real stars.

@@saylor6853 there we disagree. The thing is for the most part I did not start watching glee till the shows last season. Had to catch a lot on Netflix cause I did not have a TV or was working when it was on. That being said I did not fallow any of their carriers till last couple years. Other than hearing Lea, Dianna and Melissa's names come up on talk shows and stuff for what they have been doing I have not really heard much of the others. Yes I know amber was on dancing with the stars. But that's all the buzz I heard of her. Is amber successful? Yes having just looked up her credits. Does she have the same success as Dianna or Melissa with general public? Not really. So to me she is not the most successful.
She wasn't really the best character, I personally think. I'm rewatching glee for the third time and I realise how superficial and self-absorbed Quinn is, especially in the first three seasons.
@@renamons614 OK first off a lot of that has to do with her upbringing. Let's face it Quinns parents are all image and no substance. Unless you count substance abuse known as alcoholism! She also faced more hardship than anyone else. Besides Rachel berry is way more of the self absorbed extra issues you named than Quinn. Rachel hurt people to get what she wanted. Quinn other than Rachel and Finn never intentionally set out to hurt anyone. But then Finn and Rachel deserved everything she did and said to them. Quinn helped Mercedes with her body issues and did not expect or ask for anything in return.

Everything in this performance is epic. The choreo, the meangirls pretending to be catholics singing an ironic “I say a little prayer”, the talent of the vilains... It is everything so classic and refreshing.

I think this perfectly encapsulates why early glee was so good - it was simple, tongue-in-cheek, original, and relatively grounded. Not overly flashy and over-produced, and not trying to reference something else or follow a trend, instantly iconic just for being itself

Whomever was the casting director on this show should get a medal. I can't remember a time where we had so many talented people assembled together on a TV show; each different, but adding to the whole. The movie American Graffiti had the same kind of amazing cast.
