One thing that I learn working with social work agencies is that even part of the their mission is to change people, and society they don't have a person who knows design nor the people in charge . They have "experts" in their disciplines but no one knows how to translate this in a manner that targeted population can relate. Design teaches you how to think and solve problems. Many other disciplines teaches solutions. I am a social worker by training and I was lucky to find a director that allow me do video productions, murals, exhibits, posters informing the community of our services to our target population, governments, officials. I was lucky. Design complement ANY other discipline (computers, social work, engineering , etc..) that you can study in college. . By the way this would be a great video for students in high school and first year in college that are looking for what to do in a career counseling session. Good video. Feel authentic and could relate to my years in college.

hi! i really enjoy watching your vlogs, you're so positive and ur content has been so helpful. as an incoming freshman at uc davis who wants to switch their major to design, i was wondering what kind of courses you took during your freshman year and which ones you reccomend or favorites?
i really would like to take des 001, but the waitlist is currently full, i believe there are 3 people rn. :( i referred to a uc davis fall quarter recommended schedule for this major and so i am currently registered for a seminar, english, spanish, and nutrition (in place of design). i was wondering if you knew anything about taking des 001 during winter quarter if i can't take it this quarter? would i be behind?
hello, thank you so much! welcome to UCD! 🐮💙💛 I took DES 001, 014, 015, 016 and 115 my freshman year! My favorites were 016 (graphics and the computer, basically an intro to graphic design) and 015 (form & color, lots of physical media / analog art) :)
I'm sorry about that :/ DES classes waitlist, especially for lower division/intro classes tend to fill up quickly. But i would recommend keeping it until the drop date bc a lot of people usually drop/change their schedules around! I would say top 5-10 people on waitlist usually make it in from my experience. I forget if they offer it during other quarters- but i know several people who started their design major sophomore and even junior year and weren't behind. the major is only 68 units so it's one of the lower unit majors! Hope this helps :)

I’m planning to apply to UCD for Design major this year, and i was wondering about what you included in your portfolio during your application since I cannot really find any UC specific examples😅 do you mind sharing your portfolio…perhaps in your next video or just letting me know what types of artworks you included :)

Everything has meaning and is designed-Yes!! Look beyond the man made designs to the grand design of the Creator and you will find your creativity open in whole new ways. God bless.

I just applied to UCD, they don’t require a portfolio for the major. However, if you’re applying for design at UCLA they do require one.
