A few things off about the video. That shaft wasnt broken it was torch cut. You can see the heat marks, the blue line, around the cut end of the shaft caused by extreme heat of a cutting torch. The 'broken' ends of the shaft are not broken metal but melted metal from a cutting torch. The whole shaft itself is older, more worn and rusty than any other part of the tractor which is clean, has great paint and looks far newer than the rusted worn broken part.
You are a master in lathe work. Good job. However, after the work was done, it should have been hardened by superficial heat treatment. If this shaft is a part exposed to torsional moment and is in a soft material that is not hard enough, it is possible to break by twisting. It should have been hardened.
