What do you all think about this kind of combat system? I have played quite a few RPGS with similar battle mechanics and although it starts out fairly basic early one, give it a few hours and it really starts to show its unique elements. Really fun stuff and tons of flexibility with all the hero classes!
it looks really good but like, £30 is quite alot of money. ill prob buy if a sale comes up tho
I enjoy action side strollers, I don’t usually play RPGs, but the way combat is implemented in this games seems intriguing.

Since SquareEnix won't make a new Valkyrie Profile, it is good to see someone step in and make their own. Definitely gonna get this.
Technically Valkyrie Profile is a tri-Ace game and they made Exist Archive some years ago, which is quite similar to the first Valkyrie Profile. It was mostly ignored because people didn't like the character models, though.

This is a useful guide! The combat can honestly be a bit overwhelming with your four characters. And man the combat feels great! Like it had some punch to it! And I love the puddle chick too!

i have been playing this game for 2 days and im loving it, for me its the best single player game released since sekiro...
The only problem i got its the lack of information the game gives you for almost everything
i have to constantly recheck skills to remember what to do lol I'm currently stuck though cause the walls I'm trying to jump are too spread apart and too high up for me to be able to traverse them... like i know its possible but i just can't do it. that parkour stuff is probably the worst part of the game for me especially when i wanna hurry up and get to the story

I do like that to stop them blocking you basically do a high-low mixup.

@BoomstickGaming question: You said you need to do a reversal to counter grab attacks. How do you do reversals?
Just reached the port city in the game and while I do enjoy the characters, sound, and story, I'm not fond of the battle system. For myself, there is too much going on on the screen at the times when timing button presses is important. I'd enjoy the game a great deal more if blocking didn't require such precise timing, and didn't drain your iddhi bar.

I made my own tutorial for beginnners, but it's a slower and longer video because of all the time I spent pausing the combat to explain stuff. Your video's a good primer, which I hope all new players watch for a quick bite of advice.

I really love the aesthetics & art designs in this game. So beautiful. Also, I think tales players will find the combat right at home with the whole comboing & juggling like fighting game.

i didn't knew that combos are so very important in this game i thought enemies are naturally tank sponges
and i always run out of spiritual meter because im holding the all block button instead blocking with one specific button or hero ...
this was really life changing and now im enjoying the game!!!

I still struggle with the blocking and telling the difference between when I need to do a clean block or can block with the whole team. The game should really let the enemies in practice mode attack you instead of just standing there
I love the art and the story is cool, but the combat just got too furstrating for me, one moment its managable then the next encounter is way too difficult, i ended up getting so frustrated I never went back to it.

This is a pretty good game so far. Just got it last night. However, it is SUPER hard so far. I don't use one character at a time, I send all characters all guns blazing lol. Granted I am new to the game and will probably get better later.. but so far it's been the only thing that's saved me several times. Never thought I'd like a game liek this, but pretty fun. Great graphics and sound.

Thanks, that was more informative than the poor ingame tutorial. As somebody who never really played fighting games I might go with a refund option, as the game fails to teach you these things properly and from what I saw in your video it just feels overwhelming. Yeah, juggeling, I do that all day, but only with my life... ;)
Goodness, brain freeze, even with this explanation I'm still finding the combat confusing, I only just learned about the up down attacks which the in game tutorial didn't explain very well, I hope I don't get wrecked later because of this 😤
Having the water healer & the Aztec girl is so broken. One heals the other sets trap disabling enemy turn/gain fast iddhi (energy).

Yeah played it a long while ago and loved it I'm normally not in to turn-based combat,but man did I love it in this game it's fast paced and man the movements are so beautiful.

I bought this game today and I am hating the combat. I can't get the block timing right, so every battle nearly wiped my team. I'm on the first boss and can't get it lower than 80% health before wiping my team. So frustrated.
FriskyMeerkat if you have full idhi( not sure on spelling) you can hold the right bumper and then tap the left, it will refill your teams health. I’m on Xbox, but assume PS is the same
make more of these. I want specifics combos!
I still can't defeat the first boss. This amazing 🎮 doesn't have an option menu so i can switch the difficulty level.

Started playing this game this morning.... did not do ANYTHING like this. Glad I watched this video. I actually have a bunch of those characters and try out some of those combos pretty much right now. I just got the 3 iddah bars unlocked so I'm excited to wombo these monsters. Also didn't know about the ATB thing where it charges faster if you do different moves. That'y why Ginseng and Honey are so fast, I always alternate between healing and her attack which boosts the heal lol.
For some reason I missed this, but when fighting a group of enemies how do you select a specific enemy to attack? (Or can you?)
You can select specific enemy, isnt that explained in early game?

Hello. Could you please explain to me how to switch Ajnas weapons during combat (not for exploration)? During combat she has combos that include her fists, her axe and now her bow too for me. I am asking since it all feels random which weapon she is going to use. It feels weird to me that sometimes she attacks with different weapon. I thought she is going to use a specific weapon depending on what enemy I have her attack (flying enemy for example) but it does not seem to be the case. Sorry if I am explaining it confusingly .... to be honest I am absolutely clueless and all I know is that it feels weird and beyond my control when sometimes she attacks with an axe and sometimes with bow or fists and I am left feeling that it sure would be nice to actually CONTROL which weapon she is going to use. Sorry ... thanks to anyone who can explain this to me.
None of this actually works. Blocking doesn't do anything and there is no way to actually do a "high" or "low" attack. All you can do is mash the buttons for attack. There's no way to do a combo higher than 2 or 3. What is everyone else doing that I'm not?

Yeah just got platinum, all i say is absolutely no need for tactics just go all in - combat is that easy. Keep upgrading ure attack, mixed with good blocking which is fairly leniant. Most bosses went down with just one rush of attacks
I loved Valkyrie profile and happy someone made a “spiritual successor” I hope they do the same with Star ocean some day because I hate how square treats it.

Really digging the Water elemental lady, but the game doesnt seem like my jam outside of the Igavania gameplay. Could never get into the Valkyrie Profile/ Riviera style combat.
This game is pretty confusing to master.
It's easy to pick up and learn the basics though. Just feel like the intricacies aren't explained at all.
Anyone else unable to use Ajna's focus to resurrect fallen team members? Game controls say to use LB + RB but that does not work. I've seen streamers use the ability without any difficulty so this is becoming quite frustrating for me since some of the fights are quite hard without being able to use Ajna's heal/res...
You have to wait until you have 1 full gauge before you can use resurrection.

Sadly the game is so easy that the combo system is just a way of making fights last longer... Pretty early on, mashing everything is not only a viable strat, but THE viable strat (bar some gimmicky bosses).
I can't stress enough how sad that is, because the base for an amazing system is all there and each character plays and feels completely different..
This game deserved so much more attention then it got...damn you gaming community...always ignoring these amazing games and going for the overhyped crap... Buying more star wars trash from EA instead of supporting great developers that make innovative games.

@@kulevra well I wasn't in this vid but if you're wondering how to attack it's whatever button the character is assigned to. If you're wondering about the big super moves you press R1 1-3 times to the desired level strength and the character will perform.
@@kulevra every character has 3 types of basic attacks. A neutral, up and down

Instead of explaining how combat works, you spoil characters and features (irrelevant to combat but relevant to overall game experience.) I can't even begin to explain how stupid this idea is.
