    Thanks for the tip on the in-line hooks, I have trouble deciding which size is appropriate. Def the way to go, I don’t care about a dropped fish, but I REALLY don’t like over-stressing a fish that I intend to release, by messing with a bunch of trebles. I’ve only ever had one striper go belly up on me, but that was enough.

    Jasper you should do a review on the rods you use for the canal, specifically the Shimano Tiralejo since that is your favorite canal rod. I have a Shimano Aero Technium 10000 and I want to get a Tiralejo to maximize the full potential of the reel and my casts. Keep the vids coming 👍

    Thanks again Jasper! Have you tried the bullet, which you mentioned very briefly? I'm under the impression that it doesn't have as much action as the regular, as if they compromised action for castability. Any thoughts on the bullet?

    • @jaspercoutu489
      @jaspercoutu489  6 років тому +1

      Thank you for the Love! my thought on the bullet are... I grab the regular floating 7 inch... lol however if the conditions call for it I reach for a bullet and those conditions are a very hard wind in my face. In that condition its one of my favorites to throw. but to be honest I do not throw the bullet near as much as I should or enough to make a solid call on its action. But I have caught on them when I first bought them.

    • @liftedpotato6973
      @liftedpotato6973 5 років тому +1

      The treble hooks are natourious for bending out he uses tuna grade hooks so they wont bend that's the only reason hook up ratio varies but at the same time if your a catch and release guy it easier on the fish to have 1 hook instead of three and some cases 6 or 9

      J P hey brotha thanks for the love! Yes! slow it down and feel that flutter! lot of time I envision them following it and ill make pauses and quick bursts. just playing with them. When you get into a good school of fish you can really learn to work the lure!

  • @vsonic86

    Dude I'm wondering about the sp minnow with single hook as well because that always been my set up with a single hook. How is it in canal on a single hook? You use 5/0 hook as single hook, isnt that the hook going to snack the lure itself? I tried 5/0 Vmc, the hook keep hooks the lure itself whenever I cast.

    • @jaspercoutu489
      @jaspercoutu489  6 років тому

      Gotta try running it the way I should with the Gamakatsu's!!! They NEVER hook onto the lure and I mean EVER. double split rings to single 4/0 hooks you'll never hook. but this is also on the 7 inch SPs

    that rear single in the thumbnail is upside down. i've started using a front treble / rear single and sometimes two singles to make it easier to unhook schoolies at night on the sp and to help the fish. sps can be absolutely throated and cause the fish real problems because of the thin profile. action isn't as good, hookup ratios are not as good, but the hooks on a crushed single literally fall out when you remove the tension on the line. if the plug comes with 1/0 i size up to at least 3/0 bkk singles. if it comes with a 2/0 i'll consider sizing up to 4/0 singles, but know that you're talking about a very large hook for a schoolie and you will lose out on fish you hooked with your 1/0 and 2/0 trebles. you can grind your hooks down some for penetration if you think they are too big but that is really all you can do aside from sizing down and setting the hook properly. outside of protecting the fish whcih is obvious, the real practical argument for using a single vs a treble is the likelihood of the rear treble to get lodged onto the head or body of a big fish, outside of the mouth, in a manner that gives him extra leverage. if you catch a lot of blues you know what i am talking about, as they are a toothed fish and are trying to thrash your plug in half. the fish get fouled, they go from having a plug in a lip to wearing it like a harness, and they feel 2x as strong and become hard to turn. this almost never happens with a single hook and it is the practical advantage in the context of fish hooking and landing that a treble has over a single. because otherwise, as we have stated, 3 hooks on a treble are better than 1 on a single, and the hookup rates with trebles are inevitably greater on basically every kind of gamefish.

      For schoolies try berkeley gulp saltwater sand eels. Theyre grey & blue. They cant resist em!

    You could break these videos up to 2 or 3 parts. More videos more subscribers

    I drop way less fish with singles. Much easier on schoolies. Way less time unhooking. Never snag myself. Less weed. The list goes on. I cringe every time I see these people using 4/0 trebles for schoolies I will never understand it.
