    I realize this is a year old video. I bought the identical JS400, in left handed 6 months ago, as my first guitar. I'm 59 years old, for what its worth. Since I bought the Jet JS400 (July 2023), I have now bought other guitars. From a learning perspective, and from my relatively untrained ears, I still like my Jet the best to practice. It's all practice to me, since I still "suck", but at least I have an instrument that feels like its well rounded and up to much better melodies than I will be capable of for some time. thanks for the Review. I'm in the US, by the way.

    I liked your point about beginning playing guitar on one of these (way way better than the Marlin Strat copy I started out on in the nineties hehe). I just received a JS300 today and it is mind-bendingly good for the price. Gonna busk with it all summer and then mod it with the winnings (tuners, possibly a brass bridge, and pickups; maybe a p90 also, since I see these are being wound for Strat-style pickups now).

    Hey! What a great review! I agree that we are at that time when low price tagged guitars are not “good for that price” anymore, cause they can be just equally good for any price level. But of course to find those phenomenon models require massive research as there a so many brands now.

    • @HickiesMusicStore
      @HickiesMusicStore  2 роки тому

      Great question Cechi! As far as budget strat tuning/trem I would say its generally ok. Massive dive bombs are going to make that G string slip out inevitably. Some graphite in the nut can help with that. If there is anything I would upgrade on the jets it is the tuning pegs, a set of cheap locking tuners would aid any tuning stability problems well, not to say that its constantly going out, but any heavy action on the trem does pop it slightly out. I suggest it's the frets which are a bit scratchy, not the strings. I never heard of strings being 'treated' by a manufacturer for shipping to dealers; they're usually cheap crap on inexpensive guitars. Anyway a few minutes with a few grades of fret eraser will sort out most new frets. How are the fret ends? Interesting that Jet get such positive reviews; must check one out.

    Hi guitar Dude 😄 ok first of all what is happening with your guitar cable 🤣 it's hanging a lot of material down. I love jet guitars. I own 300 telicaster and I want one of these and they do them in left-handed. Yay! Where's your shop?

      Hi there Terence, So glad you are enjoying your JT300! With the cable, I usually loop it round (or use wireless) for live playing, but in case of recording I dont tend to worry as I dont wear a strap sat down, which I am for the majority of store videos. We are in Reading - Berkshire. Thanks so much for your feedback! Stay awesome - Sam

      Hi Fred thanks for your question, nothing listed but upon measuring they are the same size as fenders player series, meaning that they are in fact medium jumbo frets, thanks for bringing this to light! - Sam

    I also bought one JS-400 two month ago, based on this review and a couple of others made by the same Hickies. Well, I'm not so enthusiastic. Overall, the guitar is good for the price I paid (150 EUR). What I didn't like was the string action. Out of the box it was >3mm at last fret for A and E strings. I managed to set at ~2.5mm (last fret - A and E strings, no buzz of course; the rest of the strings I managed to set a bit lower). I was not able to set lower. I went to the shop, we checked other Jet's (out of the box), well, all of them (300,400,450, etc) are set with high string action. The guys at the shop also tried to set lower than I managed, without success. I addressed 2 messages to Jet Guitars, asking them to tell me the default factory set for string action, what it the recommended lowest limit for the string action, may be an user manual (because in the box there was no user manual), but no answer. If there is anyone here who managed to set string action ~2mm (last fret) for this guitar, please let me know. Bref, I consider the guitar is good for the price. But if you are used with low string action (~2mm last fret) , then it seems it's not the case.

      Thanks so much for this great feedback Sorin! So sorry to hear that you have had a less than awesome experience with your new Jet. As it goes, we have currently completely sold out of JS models at the moment to test this with, I'd want to make sure we are getting a setup with the same two point tremolo, so once we have got them back in stock, I'll put this to the test. If it is anything to go by, I've never had to set my JS300 (in this video) up since getting it and enjoy playing this guitar alot! Hopefuly looking further into the differences between models will be worthwile and we can help in some way. Cheers - Sam

    I must have got a lemon because mine isn’t very good out of the box. £159 just gets you a decent neck, all the rest needs to be changed to be usable. The tuners are godly awful and the selector switch and jack sockets fail after a while because they’re just cheap rubbish. Once you’ve upgraded everything you’re at the £350 to nearly £450 range and could have just bought a vintage v6 icon etc. I love my JS300 but I’m not gonna pretend it’s as good as the internet keep hyping it up to be. At the end of the day it’s great …for the price.
