Folks have been asking if I'd review a Jet Guitar for a while so when they asked if I would, I said yes. Here's a Jet JS450 - the specs look pretty decent for a sub £300 guitar - wilkinson trem, bone nut, roasted maple neck with locking tuners. One area that they've made a saving is pickups -these are ceramics. I was curious to see how this would compete with a Sire/PRS/Fender Mexican player type guitar.....

I have to say that I got a JS300 after watching Dave Simpson's review of it and for £159 and after dropping the action on it, I couldn't be happier! Amazing quality for the money.
Honestly, my Jet JS400 is the best Strat I've owned, and I've owned some expensive Fenders, replaced the trem springs, tuners fine, pups replaced with Iron Gear single coils. Had one for a year, no issues, still tight, really chimes and the HB for crunchy tones
I added a trem spring to mine. I use a trem as a trem, not for dive bombing, and it holds its tune just fine. You're right they are great guitars, but I prefer my S3.
is the the neck slim C?
The neck ony JS400 is basically the same profile as a Fender Modern C with a 9.5 radius. Though honestly, because of the roasted maple, I think it feels nicer! They definitely are more guitar for your £/$/€ than a MIM Fender that much is for sure. Even with mods, you probably spend the same on total as an MIM but end up with a much better guitar for the £
I have a jt300 that I've been modding and it's a fantastic guitar, with a little fret polish and some new bits I'm really happy with it
I have lefties of the JT300 and JS400. Had them about a year. The JS400 was perfectly setup out of the box, including floating trem. The JT300 needed a tweak of the truss rod.
The necks on both are super comfortable.
I bought them cos of curiosity about the roasted necks.
They're still fine a year on.
The pickups in both have no finesse but they sound honest to my ear and are fun to play.
The necks feel small in my hands and they're very comfortable to play.
At some point I will replace both tone pots. As with nearly every other manufacturer, they provide right-handed pots wired backwards.
Man, your playing is wickedly good! You are one of my favorite guitar players recently.
I have the JS 300. Amazing guitar for the money. My guitar tech did a very thorough set up including dressing and polishing the frets.. The action and intonation is spot on now. Guitar tech did recommend the tuners to be upgraded.

John, as always your playing on any guitar makes it sound good !!! Also, your intro piece with looping (I think ?) and more stuff sounds great. I’m sure that many of your followers would be really interested in learning how you “build” these intros from the ground up. The kind of chords you use, the looping and other instruments you apply and the lead part on top. I would definitely pay a fee in addition to being a patron to have you take us through that. I picked up a Harley Benton Fusion III HSS in a beautiful burst from Thomen in Germany. Took less than a week to my address in the UK and only cost £350. It has blown me away. All my other guitars cost well over £1000 but this one plays as nicely as any of them. 24 stainless steel frets, roasted maple neck, Wilkinson trem (will put in a full steel block at some point for £35), push pull tone knob, locking tuners. The neck is one of the best I’ve played, no sharp frets at all or buzz. Set up beautifully. My only criticism would be the pickups but I’m replacing those with a Andy Timmons Dimarzio set and the eternal electrics to high quality pots etc. This will be my dream HSS guitar for not much money. I would highly recommend. 😊

I’ve had a JS-400 for half a year or so, the price was 190 EUR or something. So this is my experience.
Pros:
1) Great tuning stability. Even though the trem is not branded as a Wilkinson (but has Wilkinson saddles and a fat trem block), and the tuners are low ratio cheaper ones. Will not go out of tune no matter what I do.
2) Pickups sound and feel superb.
3) No sharp fret edges.
4) Bone nut that was cut properly, which may contribute to the tuning stability.
5) After a setup it has the lowest action out of all my guitars, including Ibanez Prestige.
Cons:
1) Some QC issues visually.
2) The high E saddle is too close to the trem post when intonated properly - when you dive, the trem pivots on the saddle.
3) OMG, the trem springs are extremely noisy through the amp, but maybe I just forgot how it is, since I’ve not owned a Strat style guitar for some 6 years.
4) Unpolished frets.
Also I believe that there is some consistency issue - one other JS-400 I tried in the store had polished frets and pickups that sounded vastly different. They all have the high E saddle issue, though.
In the end I am still pretty happy with mine, as it is overall better than I expected.

In the bridge, under the screw of the e string there's a little screw to adjust the tension (the same Allen Key to adjust the action of the saddles). Hope this info help other people.
I just received by JS-400 today...and have to say..it is AMAZING for the price..oh my god, the neck is sublime for feel, no sharp fret edges tbh, I just love it after 1 day, only downside was while gently stretching out the strings, the high E string snapped , so ernie ball slinkies fitted and things are looking up..still need the strings to bed in, but cant fault the general quality of JET guitars..I have a few guitars, most expensive are my Fender and Gretsch..budget ones like the JET are 4 Harley Bentons, 1 Donner TC and one Eastcoast ST1, the only 2 guitars i ever received out of the box that the intonation was spot on was the Gretsch 5230T and the Jet JS-400..that shows the quality that JET gives you at roughly a 3rd of the price of the Gretsch and better than the Fender ltd edition player series i bought at £700 last year which needed a lot more intonation and set up 🤔
this JET is going to be my go to guitar to have fun with..that neck wow 😃

The Jet sounds good! (Especially in your hands)
With a 2 post Wilkinson trem, a properly cut bone nut, and locking tuners, (assuming it was strung with the strings pulled taut before locking them down, and then less than a full turn of wind around the post at pitch, all strings pre-stretched at pitch), it should hold tune as well as any guitar without a Floyd Rose could.
With a setup a that price point, it seems like a great deal for all the features and the finish.
The website says all the pickups are ceramic. I was wondering about the extended high end on the single coils, but without a 60's strat "scoop" to them; but I think there is probably a 500k pot to accommodate the humbucker, so you get more highs on top of a mid-present ceramic single coil. It is not bad actually!

Hmm, managed to snag a used deal of about 140 pounds for a js400. It already had some nice elixir strings on it, only had to lower a bit the action to my liking by reducing the neck bow and lowering the saddles.
Nice hefty neck, fretwork allows for ~1.5-1.7mm @ 12th fret (haven't tried lower), nut almost perfect, maybe a hair too high, stays in tune well, sounds OK in general and great through an Orange Rocker 15 so far.
I'd see its fret edges leaving area for improvement, maybe add locking tuners (this one hasn't got those). With the 10-46 elixirs it's a bit stiff for my liking but does ring out nicely and doesn't buzz.
No blemish I could see with the finish, frets undersides are also filled after being hammered which is nice, looks very cool. Dunno, I'd maybe think to throw in a gotoh bridge and locking tuners at some point, maybe some different pickups, but really it's more playable and better sounding than most strats in this price range.
Dunno, pretty good vibes here, I like it better than classic vibe, especially the lack of thick gloss on the neck.
I have the JS 300 and when it arrived, I went over it with a fine tooth comb and I really didn't find anything negative about it. The setup was perfect, at least for my taste. I guess sometimes its the luck of the draw and it lived up to the hype these guitars receive.

JS-400 SB here. Rolled the dice online and it came flawless. The store supposedly does a set up and tbh it seems pretty good. Low action nicely radiused.
First thing was to get rid of the poorly installed floppy bulk factory 9s and _properly_ install a good set of D'Addario 10s.
Then I decked and blocked the trem because I've no use for it. (My trem arm was very secure btw). Tuned up again and found no need to readjust anything action wise.
Doing all the above I have zero tuning issues even with the non locking tuners on the 400, but if you're a heavy trem user ymmv.
From my perspective as a lifelong intermediate player, it's a fantastic value purchase I'm enjoying tremendously 😁

Looks great and sounds great to me, those pickups seem pretty versatile. If I remember right about this brand, the big thing I found odd was I think they only offer some models in one color/finish? Some others might have two or three options, I think your model has some options. If I were in the market for something like this, I'd definitely give it a go (or a Harley Benton Fusion) as the price is pretty compelling to make an impulse buy and try.

Regarding the roasted maple neck thing going on for those two last years, I also feel like it’s a way to use cheap wood.
But, is a roasted maple neck more stable than a quartersawn one ? Only time and feedback from users will tell…
I also saw roasted swamp ash and mahogany (bass) guitar bodies with Eart brand (which is also on the cheap side of thing with a twist since they do offer stainless steel frets).
Wondering if it helps with body weight ? Any idea ?

I have bought 2 Jet guitars, my Jet JS450 arrived about a year ago, my Tele with a neck HB some 3 months ago. The Js450 looks different to the pics on their homepage, but I really love it (I also own a Blade RH-4, Charvel DK24, Jackson US Soloist and about 12 other guitars). There are some minor issues: binding isn't perfect, one of the locking tuner bits is bent, but working,... the general build quality is really good though. I bought it with modding in mind, but so far I haven't changed the PUs, because I really like the sound. The Tele copy - only negative is, that the fret board is not colour proof and I had black fingers for a month or more.
I was also wondering if it looked different. How did yours look compared to the pics?
@@bmoneybby I do have a black PRS SE - the colors look similar but the flame maple is less pronounced on the JET. Don't get me wrong: I still think, it's the best guitar in that price range and I like the way it looks - but it's different to the pics.

I never play “affordable” guitars at the music store because they inevitably are worth the affordable price tag. But I picked up a Jet T style 300 series for whatever reason last weekend at a small music store while visiting my dad back home and I was absolutely blown away by how good that guitar played! It played like a much more expensive guitar. Honestly, I have played much more expensive guitars that could not hold up to this $200 tele style. The only reason I didn’t buy it was because it was pink! I’m returning this weekend to get a blue or yellow one, anything but pink! I honestly might buy a couple? Or three? They surely won’t stay this affordable for too much longer? They are just too good, and I can’t believe I’m saying that about a $200 guitar?!
Looks like a nice guitar for the price. The outer string spacing to the edge of the fretboard for the two E-strings looks like it might be too close, but it's hard to see. Did you have any trouble with those strings slipping off the edge of the fretboard?
That's a general 'feature' of Fender radiused and nut width guitars.
For a second there, I thought it was a blue Aria Pro 2 Fullerton which is the one I have :D. Always, beautiful playing.
I think they are in Lithuania not Poland btw .I'm a Tele guy so I bought a JT350 and love it .Gorgeous roasted maple neck ,locking tuners .rosewood finger board and a splitable neck humbucker that sounds great too .
I bought a pink JS 400 HSS with a rosewood fretboard before Christmas out of curiosity (£189.00) and was pleasantly surprised. With a bit of a set up it plays as well as my Silver sky SE and my Fender vintera. It doesn’t have locking tuners but I will upgrade them shortly. The pickups are ok for now but I may swap them out in the future. I would happily recommend them based on my experience.
I put Iron Gear Pig Iron single coils in my Jet JS400, stock were ok, but these sound much wider and ring, take the guitar a step up.

Ok first of all really nice playing man!
If I didn't know the price, listening to this I'd say it was a good deal more expensive. If I didn't get a chance to hear it I'd tell more serious students to go for something's twice the price instead, like a PRS SE.
I've been considering building my own strat from parts, but this is very tempting as it looks like with a bit of work and changing out some parts this could be a very viable guitar even for gigs.
What stood out to me about the pickups was that when you play hard, they sound a bit flat, somehow almost compressed. And when you play soft they seem to lack a sensitivity and responsiveness that you'd expect in a good guitar (for more or less pro level use).
Then again if I were to get this guitar, it would be for the neck specks (roasted maple fan here), neck joint and maybe cool color. All other hardware would get changed into something more high end
I'm glad i watched this as I purchased a 2nd hand one last weekend and the tremolo bar falls out and sits to low.

I have the Jet JS400 and all i can say: it came absolutely (!!) perfectly setup, looked flawless and felt great! And 'till today -despite even all my Floyd Rose Guitars- its the Guitar that stay absolutely and best(!) in tune, totally mindblowing. The Neck feel and shape is just to die for................................. and the Pickups are pretty decent, although i swapped them out to some others i had laying around - maybe i will put them back in sometime. Oh, and i installed some cheap Locking Tuners. Now its perfect!
Which one did you go for as soon they do a baked roasted neck and a straight maple one I think

nice review! i got myself a JS400 relic recently, and i figured out that position 2 has middle single+full humbucker, no split coil. I then opened the pickguard and found out that the humbucker is a 2 cable one, so no mods allowed here. Anyway i quite like the guitar, it covers my pop/funky/soul function work well enough. Quick question: this one in your review is the next step higher model. Do you get a proper split coil in position 2 or is it still full humbucker? Cheers from London ;)
I have a regular JS-400, and I am pretty sure it sounds like a split sound on mine… Don’t want to disassemble to check it, though😅
@@cellarcatband oh yeah? well you could also grab a screwdriver, switch on pos.1, you push the poles on the humbucker with the tip of the screwdriver and see if both coils are working. Then you move to pos. 2, and if it's a split, only one of the two coils should be amplified :)

I have the cheapest Jet (tele style) aand the specs are great, it plays great and I am well pleased. It cost me £140 from GAK.
The JS-400’s HSS are going for as little has £159. I guess they’re really going up against Harley Benton - have you ever reviewed any of them?

JET Is a higher speced guitar: Roasted maple, Wilkinson hardware, flamed maple top, locking tuners. Azes has none of this. So...if you want a more famous " brand" then Ibanez, if you want a better guitar, then JET :)

How does it compare to a Sire (guess S7 is closest)? I'm in the market for workhorse HSS for pub gigs and there's a LOT out there now that seems to be up there with my posh guitars ... wouldn't be quite so concerned about this getting kicked off a stand
I'd say I was more impressed with the actual cosmetics of this one, but tone and playability would go to the Sires
Sire S7 costs 479 and JET less than 300, so its a big difference. I actually had L7 (Les Paul) and it felt stiff and uninspiring to play, so I sent it back. Build was it was quite ok.

S7 was my top pick before hearing about the Jets … maybe S3 is better value but I think the 7 has a better trem which is one of the buying criteria (stays in tune!)

Roasting wood increases cost there is no savings, additional equipment, risk and processing. If you used lower grade wood how much would you actually save and would it offset the additional costs, I doubt it? Manufacturing is a science and business not for speculation.
Put to shame for some of the big names in the market.
Yeah it will be the bone but that’s causing tuning problems. Not great with a floating trem unless heavily lubricated. They should have used a graph tech TUSQ nut which would have worked a lot better.
The t style is great . 160 quid and the middle position is as nice a sounding t as I have heard.f

I take all your guitar reviews with a grain of salt because you make every guitar sound great. In my own hands, I can only make good guitars sound mediocre, and mediocre guitars sounds terrible.

These cheap guitars are all the same with the same cheap ceramic pickups and cheap electrics... Good bodies for modding...
As luthier with 20 years of experience and some sort of player i think this guitars plays well as some 3 times more expensive. You need to tight u the screw as you told alone for the trem. trem is OK, that factory makes trem for some fancy brands out of the same materials only they use better block. So with a small input lets say a better block like brass that guitar can compete with Suhr which is like 10 times that price. Yes the will tell you that sure use better wood but i don't think so, they have thicker cap but wood ain't better. pick PRS it's the same story. S for people who aren't snobs those are great pro guitars, if you don't like the name just remove it.
