Viking Aircraft Engines is on its way to Alaska (from Florida) with the first kit-built version STOL CH 750 Super Duty, powered by its 180-hp turbocharged Honda-based conversion.
Sebastien and Roger (from the Zenith Aircraft factory) flew up over Mexico, Missouri (in the prototype CH750SD) to meet with Jan and Dwayne in the air for a better look at the "dead rat flat black" painted plane with red powder-coated wing leading edge slats.
This airplane was built by Jan and the Viking Aircraft Engine crew in just two months from the complete Zenith Aircraft kit.
We are gearing up for the trip to Alaska, if anyone or their EAA chapter is interested in seeing the Zenith 750 SD with the 180T HP Viking Engine please let us know. If it is along the way we would love to stop in and say hi, fill up the tanks and give anyone who would like the chance to see the plane as well. The goal is to take off in 5 DAYS, next Wednesday so tune in for updates!
You can contact me at Alissa@vikingaircraftengines.com

nice ideea, the position for the "emergency steam gauges" on top
does the large tires increase the drag a lot?
AWESOME GUYS, will be following, have fun and fly safe.
I love that glass cockpit has reached even home built air craft. So much more versatile than a mechanical cockpit. Backup? Phone;o)
Hope you enjoy your flight _ make sure that heater works!
A Honda with 10,000 miles hasn't even had an oil change yet. It's just broken in. Essentially new.
if Dan did not stand in front of the engine it would be nice i know what Dan looks like i would like to see the engine thank you i am very interested. I like Dan's interviews but would like to see more of the product then Dan.
Normally you would. I usually take video an stills and overlay them over Dan talking. The video on shot of the motor became corrupt somehow and I didn't have an couldn't find any video to overlay.

Jan has done a lot of Cross Country on hes products yet. Jan need to to a lot of 1000 mile legs. I think the Gear box was the problem this time. Others have had Gear box problems. I think the box needs a larger oil supply. 8 oz of oil is not safe. I am sure he will work it out.
He never made it!!! Did it crash?? Engine trouble?? The GPS map stopped in Montanna!!!!
someone said Engine problems. you can get a GPS in MONTANA need to carry a spare
looks like your south of lake okee dokee im in seabastian i wouldnt mind checking out some bush planes for real. i fly rc need to fly full scale
I'll be in Valdez, hope to see the aircraft in person
is this plan kept in Florida ? if so where ?
Who manufactured the five-bladed prop? What's the benefit over a two-blade prop? What IAS and fuel burns were you getting on the cross country? Cheers!
The prop is by DUC Helice. Two blade can't take can't take the torque from engine power. Can't answer fuel burn etc. as I did the interview not the flying.
The Ultralight Flyer.
We get 9 gal/hour
Whats the time between annuals on the engine? Time between rebuilds?
With the expense of another engine being so inexpensive, just put another engine it rather than a rebuild. I would like to know how many hours is recommended before that is necessary though.
Why rebuild? But it's a Honda. A long ass time. You'd have to pretty much figure it out, based on compression, oil consumption, etc.
@@Jimidan1000 At 20,000 a engine from Jan, Rebuild is very cheep buy a new head Change the timing belt but that built should be replaced every 400 hours.
They are as good as new!!! And the new GDI is not good, I own a garage and hav problems with a number of these things in cars, let alone planes. I’m all for auto conversions but know what is and isn’t good. GDI has a number of issues with the design... google it, and used car engines?? You never know what you’re going to get.
The problem with GDI, as I understand it, is crankcase gases making a mess out of the intake valves. No fuel spray to keep them clean. In an aircraft installation you don't need PCV. Dump the gases overboard. The valves will stay squeaky clean.
Mickey Bitsko yup if the computer will let you, not sure how they will map the ecm
Where are all the Vids from the show in Europe? Impatiently waiting. :) Hope we can get a report on that new Alpi aviation Griffon. Looks cool. Needs a Dan Johnson take on it.
I don't think we did a video on the Alpi Griffon at Aero. The videos are processed as I get the time, right now I am still logging everything into the computer.
The Ultralight Flyer
Light Sport and Ultralight Flyer Don't worry. I am sure what you have will be cool. I assume if you are uploading you must be the unsung hero behind the camera. Thanks for your effort because I enjoy your filming very much.
What route are you taking throuh Canada?
The route is depicted on the map in the video. It looks like they are going up the B.C. coast.

how much you spend in this CH750 Super Duty, Viking?
probably a studpid question... but how much useful load with a 180hp or greater engine?
So, you are saying, you buy a used engine for 2000 to 4000 and sale it for 32,000 with a new wiring harness, dyno test and a gearbox? That sounds like a money maker. Wow people should just by a small VW. Diesel engine with a whole lot more torque and save lot of money. Go Diesel yee haw. Just a thought.
