Just wanted to say thank you. I got a good deal on the 36t version for mtn bikes. Grx cassette doesn’t need the spacer for the smaller mtn bike free hub. I did not have to buy any special tools. I already had the cassette lock ring tool and used the axel to get the bearing back in. So for less than $100 and 10 min of banging, I now have ratcheted free hub.
Forget all the other videos about this conversion. Even the DT Swiss one. This is the one. Just converted my hub and it went perfectly. Getting the old lockring out is the hardest part. I did buy some Chinese tools from ebay and they worked well, but you need a rock solid bench vise to use those. Thanks for making the video. Couldn't have done this without you.
Amazon had a (generic) specialty 3 pawl ring removal tool and the ratchet ring install tool for about $15 each in the US. If you have these then I guess you can just pull the ring and you don't need to remove the axle and bearings because you aren't heating the hub. Just pull the ring, install the new one, and install the new ratchet hub - have i got that right?
Hola , suscrito y lyke des de España. 👍🏼 Gracias por hacer la traducción al castellano. Una pregunta, pudiste aprovechar la tapa que va en el lado del nucleo HG? O tuviste que comprar una nueva tapa para el núcleo? Gracias
Hello. Thanks a lot for your video, it really worked flawlessly for me in every step. I have 1 question though. After the successful replacement, I realised the new freehub is a bit shorter than the old one. There was a spacer previously installed with the cassette which I removed and it fitted fine after that. I also had to recalibrate the rear derailleur. But I am worried if I ordered the right upgrade part. I have p1800 road wheels and hg800 11-34 cassette. Will I be able to fit other 11speed cassettes eg R8000 on the new freehub in the future?
I was trying to convert my dr swiss hub from 3-pawl to ratchet where one of the steps is to remove that ring from the hub. I have the universal tool used to install/remove the ring from the hub. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how much pressure I apply to the key I can't unscrew that ring from the hub. Does that mean the ring got seized to the body of the hub and I will get stuck with 3-pawl hub or there is a trick to remove it?
Thanks for the quick reply. Kinda disappointing u have to spend the same again on upgrading to the 54 tooth kit. Is there a big difference in feel between the 3 pawls and the 18 tooth ratchet?

Outstanding explanation. Thank you
great, informative video. thanks a lot.
Super useful. To the point video as always. Great stuff.
Just curious which bearing press are You using in the video?
I like how you leave the blow torch on while you remove the drive ring 🙃
Detailed useful video, thanks. 👍
Thanks for the video. Do all regular HG hubs using the pawl have a removable inner hub teeth ring ( the one replaced with a ratchet inner teeth ring)?
I got some hacks out of this vid , much thanks !
Thanks for sharing
Can you do this to any 3 or 6 pawls freehub?
The freehub body has some marks on the splines. Is that normal? How come?
Hi, do you know what is the part number for the shim?

Only as long as the tool is long enough to fit over the axle!

The HG800 is the same as the R8000 cassette!

My Park Tool 5.2 got stripped even after heating the lock ring up 😢
Great tutorial, was that the 18tooth ratchet kit u fitted?
Yes!

Is there a big difference in feel between the 3 pawls and the 18 tooth ratchet?
Good
Is the conversion from 3 pawls to a ratchet system with 18 tooth really worth it? What are its advantages beyond the distribution of forces? Cheers
