So my brother has his birthday on the 30th of July, for his birthday my other brother fixed up an emerald with a new battery and everything. He told me that it would be so awesome if I could try for a shiny Torchic because Blaziken was the birthday boys favorite starter. He also said that if I managed to get it he would get me my own emerald version! So 2 days ago I looked up how to shiny hunt in emerald and yours was the 1st on the list. I used your method with a stopwatch and reset the game when I got to 50. Today I FREAKIN FOUND A SHINY TORCHIC IN 1,987 RESETS I AM SO HAPPY THANKS TO YOU MN I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!

The working internal battery is not necesarry i have a dead one and got my shiny treecko in emerald. Just hit different times like counting or using the sign that comes down so every new reset is a new frame. 50 srs and then start a new game. Do this until u get a shiny zigzagoon so u can keep the file and try hitting that shiny frame again on that safe file until you get the starter. Much love and good luck hunting guys :)
when you get a shiny zigzagoon, the starter is generated roughly 2.3 seconds after! So try to open bag 2.3 seconds later than when you had encountered the shiny zig to get the starter

And also emerald has 60 frames for second, so just taking one reset for each second sounds like an insane amount of completely restarting the hunt or wasting a lot of time… so use the route sign and try atleast 10 attempts at like 6 deferent levels. Before the sign drops, right when it starts, toward the middle of it falling, before it’s completely dropped, and while it’s completely visible. Bam GUARANTEED early shiny frame!
I understand what you're trying to convey, but this tutorial is more so aimed at novice shiny hunters or those who are just looking to get into shiny hunting. Most people who know and understand what you posted aren't looking up a "how to hunt" video in the first place

So I get what you're saying. If im not completely stupid it means; In every second of the game there are 60 different frames which everytime have a 1/8192 chance to be a shiny frame right?
And restarting the game (new game) completely resets the seed, so every frame ist different to the frames before you restarted the game. Is that all right?

And another question; if the uncatchable shiny zigzagoon appears i should try to soft reset and hit the exact same frame right? in an other video the guy said to wait around 2 seconds after you hit the shiny frame for zigzagoon (so 60 frames later) but it seems pretty hard to hit that exact frame in my eyes. am i getting something wrong?
The best method is to save in front of the bag where you select your starter and use the route sign that drops in the left corner as a guide to hit different frames. Do 10 sr before the route sign drops, another 10 sr 1/4 of the way down, 1/2 way, 3/4 of the way and then lastly when it fully drops. Totaling 50 sr per file. I have done this multiple times and it took an average of about 10 save files. You can also do 15-20 sr per sign location if you want to be extra sure you didn’t miss an early shiny frame.
Literally did what you said here with using the route flag as a guide and I did the first 50 then made a new game once and got it on like my 10th attempt. Took about 10 minutes total. Thanks dude got my first shiny mudkip because of this comment 👍✨

@@slimshady951000 not sure what I’ll end up going for I wanted to get a couple of the legendary Pokémon at least the rayquaza and groudon for sure. In all the years I’ve had Pokémon games I’ve never encountered a shiny before by chance (besides the red gyarados) so that mudkip was my first real attempt at getting a shiny and it only took like 10 minutes so I’m already pretty happy to be honest lol. The purple mudkip is nice.
In pretty certain that changing the battery in Emerald will not change starting seed. That's why emeralds RNG is said to be broken - it ALWAYS starts at 0. So every single emerald game, dry battery or not, will have the same frame output. It's only in sapphire and ruby the changing of a battery will influence the seed. Smogon has done several elaborate articles on this subject:)

Just found a shiny mudkip...after 5 shiny zigzagoons... I couldn't remember my tempos so I did it over and over until I kit the shiny zigzagoon, but I not luck with the mudkip so I started using the route 101 sign to mark the frame and waited a few seconds to select the starter pokemon and finally got it... my question for you is, can o use this same method to hunt other pokemon? Or will the frames will change?
Congrats on the Mudkip! You can indeed use this to obtain other shinies. You just have to trigger an encounter on the same frame that yielded your starter hunt shinies. From the sound of it, you have the timing down!

emerald is the reason why i'll try to get all three starters in 2 copies of ruby (one in english and the other in spanish since i know how to speak both languages) and 1 copy of sapphire.
how do you reset it so quickly? im about to start hunting for the first time on my old gba sp and i only know power it on and off?
For gen. 1-3 Pokemon games, you can soft reset (SR) by pressing A+B+Start+Select at the same time

You can SR if the battery is dry in Emerald. It doesn’t change the RNG. But it is annoying to have to go through that message every SR!
why don't people use a GB operator to then play actual copies on an emulator that will allow them to x2 speed the game to save themselves hours/days of shiny hunting?
How would this work for later game resets like the other legendary pokemon, since you can't restart the game
Can you check all 3 starters to see if they’re shiny or do you have to put them into battle to see if they’re shiny?
I think only Heart Gold and Soul Silver are the only games you can tell when you pick.
Ah good old emerald rng. I remember soft resetting 10k ish times for a shiny gen 2 starter after finishing pokedex before I found out.
I did 1500 resets before I became aware of Emerald’s weird RNG bug. Whoops :/ I’m now using this method, going as fast as possible for 10 resets, then adding one count every 10 resets until 100 have gone by and then starting a new file.
2 questions:
1. Instead of starting a whole new game after every x resets, why not just let the game run for a couple minutes, save, and resume the grind?
2. How does using emulators/flash carts affect this mechanic? Specifically I am playing through goomba on Everdrive X5

The seed will always reset back to 0 when you soft reset. So if you want a few minutes you’ll hit new frames but as soon as you reset you’ll see the same frames

With legendaries in Emerald you can actually use the runaway method where you encounter it, run, leave the room, return to it and repeat

I encountered a shiny zigzagoon after 16 sr, do I continue counting onwards or do I just keep sr after counting to 16 seconds? (Which was when I found the shiny zigzagoon)
You could continue trying to hit the same shiny frame, though the game runs at 60 FPS, so that might be a bit difficult 😅 Alternatively, you could skip the starter and use that file to get other shinies, since you know roughly where your shiny frame is

Thanks for the great video. Instead of starting a new save file, can't you just save the game after waiting the 30, 50, or however seconds. That way when you soft reset it will be a different frame than previously.

@@nasonvillanueva4542 My understanding was wrong. Emerald determines the shiny frames from when the game was booted up, not from when the save file was created, therefore the the frames will be the same if you save the file.

Fortunately you can shiny hunt with random encounters in Emerald like you would in any other game
I've been going with this method for days now, but so far nothing has popped up. I have been going faster than seconds with the counting, but i have also gone longer on each save file too.

I was doing a Poke-special Manga theme run trying to get same gender, nature, and ability as Ruby from the manga. Kept getting Lonley nature, and I think I know why now.
So you're telling me that I did 970 Soft Resets for nothing ?
Can't you just save in between, let's say you encountered 30 frames, you then count to 31, you save, you encounter and start over again without resetting the game? this way won't you encounter new frames when you soft reset after you saved?

That wouldn't work as when the game loads the frames reset to 0.
The way Emerald works is your shiny frame is always a predetermined frame when a game save file is created and never changes.
Frames are based on seconds and each second generates 60 frames so if your earliest shiny frame is on frame 1,800 thats exactly 30 seconds in game and the frames will start counting from the moment the game resets.
The reason you'll want to start a fresh save file after every 30 to 50 softresets is because the odds are you don't have a shiny frame early and it could be a few minutes until your earliest shiny frame comes up.
My advice is save in front of the bag and soft rest and try selecting the pokemon you want as fast as you can and if it's not shiny SR and do that 10 times, then try the same thing again 10 times but have a 1 second delay, then do the same thing again 10 times with a 2 second delay that way you're likely hitting between 6 and 10 independent frames every soft rest.
If you don't get it after reaching a delay of 10 seconds or more start a new save.
I learned a lot about how the game works from learning about Emeralds RNG it still doesn't make shiny hunting any easier though lol
tried to do the rng frame timing w/o knowing my secret id and had no luck. started using this method over the past few days. last night I randomly started a new game and clicked the bag and got a shiny treeko lol

I have a dead battery, but whenever I start a new game it generates a completely new trainer ID and I know the trainer ID and seed are linked together in some way. So with that, will I be able to get a shiny starter even though my battery is dead?

If I go up to say 30 seconds and save the game then reset, can I start back at 1 and be at 31? Or does it just completely reset back to 0?
Each time you reset the game or turn it off and on, the RNG goes back to zero. I believe it starts going through the frames when you hit ‘continue,’ so I like to use the location panel position as a way to vary the timing of my soft resets. Hope that helps!

The battery running dry in Emerald doesn’t actually affect the RNG! But yeah, it will take patience regardless. I wish you luck if you go for one!

I have a copy of Ruby without a battery. Can I still shiny hunt the starters, or do I have to get a battery? If I can still hunt them can I just mash or is there a method?
A Ruby/Sapphire with a dry battery (or without one completely) will have an RNG that behaves like Emerald’s, so you’ll follow the steps for starter hunting in Emerald
If that’s the shiny odds in emerald I must’ve been hella lucky I got one as a kid on my 20th something torchic egg why trying to build a blazeiken army
Quick saving right before you pick your starter and quick reloading worked for me. I got my shiny Mudkip after 736 reloads.

I hope you still respond to this but I’ve officially gotten my shiny treecko thanks to this video my question now would be after getting my starter how do I shiny hunt another pokemon?
1) For other SR targets (stationary, roaming, gift, including Wynaut egg), you can just reset like normal. If you don’t get it like that after a bit, try changing the timing up the SR’s (from the time you press continue to when you receive/encounter/release the Pokémon)
2) For random encounters, you can put a Pokémon with Synchronize ability and the same nature as your shiny Treecko at the front of your party. Save the game and reset. Then load it up and enter a wild battle as quickly as possible. (White Flute + Illuminate ability help.) If you don’t get the shiny, just reset the game and try again. (Basically like SR’ing and random encounters combined 🤣)
Note that this advice only applies if you got the shiny Treecko with an early shiny frame (selected it soon after pressing continue).

You’re welcome! And I should clarify, the methods I mentioned are only if you wanted to go for RNG clones of the Treecko. (Illuminate and White Flute are great for any encounters hunts though except Repel Trick. Illuminate beginning in Emerald.) For full odds shinies, you’re right on track! I hope a shiny you want appears soon ✨

What happens if my emerald battery is already dead? Will new game still produce new frames?
Does this problem occur on emulators as well?
On average how long does this method take? Like would it be faster to hunt in R/S or Emerald? I don't mind the extra work as long as it is faster but if it is slower I may switch games
There's no way to say how long this will take, since it ultimately comes down to luck. R/S is definitely faster per reset, though. As long as you have a working battery, SRs function normally in those games and take about 15 seconds each

I'll never shint hunt in emerald. I love older games and own all the hardware and games. Too busy hunting in new games and too much to transfer. Still love seeing how it's done
I've started SRing in sapphire but I first replaced the dead battery and was told that restarting a new file resets any RTC problems I just wanna confirm if I should be okay and continue SRing for a shiny starter?

As long as the game is running, frames are advancing, but saving won't affect the frames at all. Every time you reset or turn off/on your game, you're starting back at square one, essentially

Hypothetically, if the player had access to a battle video, and then saved in front of the bag and played the video back before each encounter, wouldn’t that work too? Or do you still have to worry about closing the battle video at a certain time or something? Also is this a possible way to hunt deoxys rather than doing run aways?

Probably the most insane story I have to share.
When I was younger I played emerald with no cheats etc. One day before going to the lake I to my amazement had a shiny raquaza pop up and a master ball ready to catch it. Upon getting it I saved my game and turned it off to get ready to go to the lake.
Went to the lake and upon arriving I checked my Gameboy and went to grab my emerald game (wasn't in my gameboy) and my game had gotten covered in sunscreen and never worked again.
I can't believe how lucky and unlucky I was at the same time.
why would you take emerald out of your gameboy if you got a shiny rayquaza ? I'd encase it in epoxy and mount it on my wall lol. to be fair you were a kid .. I killed a shiny makuhita when I was younger because I thought my game glitched :(

Before I knew about Emeralds rng i hunted for shiny mudkip by normally soft reseting and actually got it without starting a new game. At least I think I did. When I later found out about the rng bt watching various videos on it I learned that with the shiny mudkip I can manipulate the game to shiny hunt easier. Is that true? Its been a while since I've seen those videos, so I might be getting some details wrong.
Yeah, if you encountered a shiny Mudkip through normal SRs in Emerald, it means you have a very "early" shiny frame in your predetermined RNG. If you were to encounter on the same file right after starting up the game, there's a chance you can hit that frame again

Yeah, exactly. R/S with a dry battery essentially function like Emerald when it comes to RNG
as i understand it a dead internal battery doesnt matter since the shiny frames are a function of your SID and Emerald's rng always starts with a seed of 0 regardless of battery status. Otherwise great vid, neat method!
So it really doesnt matter? I've always read that shiny frames in Emerald had to do with trainer ID and SID. This is really the first video I've heard where someone mentions needing a working battery. I cant replace my battery so I really want to make sure...

You could, but 3 seconds is a long amount of time that will add up quickly. You shouldn't need to add more than a second with each reset

If your shiny frame is relatively early, then you could try to replicate it with other encounters. The issue is that this game runs at 60 FPS, so it's still insanely hard to be that precise. If you're interested in hunting legends in this game, most of them can be hunted by running away and then leaving/re entering the area and encountering again

im playing on GBA for iphone 12 through the eclipse emulator does this method work the same way or what would you recommend for shiny hunting starters here?
Not sure how this method interacts with emulator, but as long as your ROM simulates an internal battery, I imagine you'd be fine. If you get the "dry battery" message when booting up, then likely not
Okay so let’s say I soft-reset for 20 seconds (20 resets). Can you just save after waiting that 20 seconds and then expect a fresh set of frames when you reset? As if 20 seconds already passed when you reset again? Or does the game-time not work that way?
Unfortunately, saving has no effect on your frame count. Every time you reset or turn off your game, you're effectively starting back at "0." Starting a brand new file is the only way to get a "fresh" set of frames
@@METROIDFAN258 One more thing out of curiosity, do you know what causes variation in the sprite’s animation? I noticed while hunting Torchic that it would either hop back and forth twice quickly, once quickly, or once slowly. Is it nature?

I still wonder if its better to start ruby as mudkip sapphire as torchic and emerald as treeco guess i can trade if link cables still exist on guessing da to ds of the original trio wont work well from what I've read so far.
I dont hate legendays but so much high leveled needing a ton of xp and being op no wonder I prefer a standard team though a mate has challenged me all legendarys vs my team consisting of linoone crobat and a bug type and others I hope I can make him eat his words he wasnt even 3 days in and he was too confidant he never played saw me play or knew of legend's at the time bit was over confidant I've got years of play if I lose its gonna suck but I just dont enjoy using legendarys much wanna win but wanna enjoy the battle too cant if it's too series and same team ?

You need to create a whole new save in order to get a new set of frames. That's why this method is only advisable for hunting starters at the beginning of the game
A little correction, In emerald the starting seed is ALWAYS 0, so the frames will actually be the same dry battery or not. When you create a new file it's your TID and SID that change, therefore your shiny frame as well. So the seed is constant (same frame sequences) but your possible shinyframes change, when a new game is started:)

You can still attempt this with a dead battery, but you'll have difficulty generating a new seed every time you hit "New game"

Hi there question I've had for a while if I reset my pokemon games with new save files each reset as emerald has a fixed seed and then my pokemon ruby and pokemon sapphire both have dry batteries also resulting in fixed seed if I just start a brand new game each individual reset will that be something that would prevent me from running into the same frames as its a new individual save file each time?

I think it doesn’t matter if the battery is dry or not in Emerald, at least that’s what I’m a blisy said.
That's incorrect for this particular hunt, since a working battery is required in order to generate a randomized seed upon starting a new file. After that point, a dry battery is totally fine, since your RNG is predetermined. If you choose not to hunt a starter, then the battery can be dry 👌
