MyGig Crash and How To Fix It

- Mark finds out his MyGig Nav Radio stopped working and finds a quick fix for it. If you can use a screwdriver and order parts off the internet you can save yourself hundreds of dollars without replacing your radio
IMPORTANT NOTE:
The 2008 Dodge Caravan (and possibly some other models) uses this kind of radio, but you have to remove the radio fuse before any time you disconnect the battery and don't put it back in until after the battery is reconnected, otherwise a voltage spike can hit the radio and ruin it.
That's a pretty poor design .
Usually you just replace a car battery, not pull fuses too.
Never heard of that.
My Chrysler 200 battery is buried under the left fender so I am not surprised.
Thanks again Chrysler
My daughter is 16 and was gifted a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country by her grandparents. However, the navigation system isn’t working. It says, “Navigation Database Not Detected. Please Install Navigation Database.” under System Information it says, “Database: ERROR! TAG NOT FOUND”. Would replacing the hard drive fix this? The radio works fine. Thank you so much for any help!
Check to see if the radio even has Nav - lots don't but people think they do - check the model of the radio and search it on Google - Cheers from Canada!
I would just use google maps on her phone.......much cheaper.....Google maps does not use a lot of data. Or buy a TomTom/Garmin with life time maps.....this way you keep the GPS....when you get rid of the van the Hard drive is of no use to you.
I got a whole unit for 55 dollars from the junkyard. It works for me 👍
Good info Bobby
Did the new radio work with out an anti theft code.
@@shawnmacdonald6955 you can call a Mopar dealership parts department give them the radio ID and your vin and they will give you the anti theft code.
I found out a fix if the hard drive fails sometimes the nav unit is hot and it just makes it stop reading the HDD also in cold/cold seasonal climates try to keep your car warm om start as this can cause your HDD to fail and youd have to do the opposite (basically heat it up) whats on here except it has to have air blowing at room temperature at 70°-80°.
1st. turn on the truck make sure your in some shade and blast the A/C for 5-10 minutes.
2nd. After that turn off the vehicle open the door lock it and walk away from it so it wont detect your key and wait 10-15 minutes. This way it gives the nav unit a full boot restart (has to show Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler Uconnect intro if it didnt show wait longer and start it up again) when you turn on the vehicle.
4. Right when you turn on the vehicle put the AC on High immediatly and leave it sitting for a while dont touch anything until the HDD starts up again sometimes rarely you will have to drive around to establish signal.
This worked for me everytime, hard drives wont fail 80% of the time unless it has obstruction in the mechanical disc drive or extreme thermal issues and also they have fuses for shortages the problem is that FCA implemented a weak cooling and heating fan system on the nav unit which can overheat or freeze the HDD if you have the tools you could open up the Nav unit on your FCA vehicle and use a can of dust cleaner that could possibly improve thermal issues.
Ive had a buddy go through 5 hdd heavy duty ones after that I told him to let me borrow the first stock HDD to plug it in my Desktop and it showed that it still worked keep in mind my desktop has a great cooling system.
I have a 2011 ram and the radio restart every 3 to 5 min can you help me fix this problem I will appreciate
Hey brother . I have 2008 hemi grand cherokee evrthing works far as turning on display touch screen but no sounds . I checked fuse . One is missing change that but what can it be
Hello. I did this to my type REZ MyGig stereo, and followed your great routine to the letter as you have shown, and I thank you for that because it worked fine, but when I put it back into my Chrysler Grand Voyager, the screen asked me to input the anti theft code number which I wasn't given when I bought the car, so I couldn't enter it. I could not get it to work again without the code. That is not your fault I know, but I notice on yours you have a 4 digit number on a white sticker, is that your model code for your MyGig? Can you help me at all in obtaining my code as here In Scotland there are no longer any Chrysler dealers at all and I have no idea what to do. Help! Please.
Paul - I'd try 0000 or 1234 or 1111 - if that doesn't work I'd type in "mygig REZ theft codes" in Google to see what come up - let me know how you make out - Cheers from Canada! (all great grandparents going back 3x came from Caithness Whinton/Manson)
@@carquestions Thanks for the reply. I have tried those numbers you suggested, with no success. And have googled mygig rez and still no help. I am at my wits ends trying to get it to work again, it looks like ive spent a fortune on the upgraded HDD drive from the USA but cant avail of its benefits. I need someone in the USA to go to a Chrysler dealer with my info on my vehicle and see if they can help me, since no one here in Scotland can.
Is the hard drive just for the navigation?
Because I’m having trouble with my RER 730n radio it turns on when it wants to and reboots to the Jeep logo multiple times and the touchscreen stops working as well.
Can I run the radio without the hard drive?
minedoes the same thingso if you find out let me know
Mine is having the same problem. When I start the vehicle, radio comes up with no sound at all, no HDD, no radio, even cannot control the volume (volume bars are not shown on the screen). Many other times the touch screen buttons doesn't work. The hard drive is only to store music and other data, maybe nav. but I think the HDD affect the entire radio functions.
It has a hard, but it is empty that does not contain a definition
From where do I get a definition? Can you upload it to me?
Would a new Hard Drive fix an issue with the phone book? Mine works great except for anything to do with the phone book. It wont let me save contacts from my phone, and wont let me save my home location. all other functions work great....
It might - but on the whole the system is a bit glitchy even when working right
My Navy still works but all my music and pics are gone. Is there no way to reboot it.?
other than disconnecting the battery - no - sorry
Thanks for the video, lastly I have some issues with my Nitro radio, it start with no sound at all. What's the capacity of the HDD that comes with the MyGig radio? Don't you know whats the maximum HDD capacity the radio can accept? Could it be work with an SSD?
Thanx again!
How did it work with the hard drive don’t you have to get it programmed for the nav and all to work
Works off the disc dvd - no programming required
@@carquestions later found out it’s the navigation card that need to be changed. Not sure if I should fix it or just go after market head-unit. Would have the have but can have Apple car play for the navigation.
Why do you put the car in drive before you turn it off and install the radio? Is that just to move the shifter out of the way?
Yes, that's the reason, to unmount the pannel without the shifter obstacle.
Could you send me the series of the hard drive and the capacity
go to this site mygig-disk.com/index-rer.php and find the one you need
So I have a Chrysler 300 2008 and my radio comes on but goes off before I can click on it it just says Chrysler and then shuts off, is this a hard drive problem or do I need a new radio?
That is the exact issue IM having did you ever get fixed???
Same here.
@@treg9246 no never figured it out. Traded it in
Mine at one point thescreen distorted and then went black. Sometimes it boots back up but itll shut off again. would you still recommend a new hard drive
Yes I would
My 2013 Dodge Journey probably needs hard drive as navigation won’t upload as radio needs change. But if hard drive can fix this problem I want to know from where to buy hard drive. New radio will cost a lot of money.
just google mygig hard drive
I remember my sold 2010 Chevy Captiva in Philippines
The radios that time is needed a security code to access the radio
What model hard drive did you buy?
Can't recall - car is long gone now - sorry
My 2008 Sebring radio is stuck in spanish mode. The touch screen is not working properly. You have to touch it below the button you want to work. The save button on the language page is at the very bottom of the screen. Is there a way to make the screen smaller so the button will work?
screen size is non adjustable sorry Dave
The page you sent me says it does not exists. I also need the information about the hard drive or the serial number to buy it.
works for me - try going to mygig-disk.com it works for sure - then select what you need based on your vehicle
Where do you find these hard drives?
Google search
Hi, please, the assistant in repairing the car recorder
It works, but in the image or sign of a Dodge car it appears and does not make any sound or change the image of the screen
I changed the hard disk, but the device did not work, and the car marker, a Dodge Caravan, still appears on the screen of the recorder
Does the hard disk have a definition?
Can you raise the definition of the screen or the solution?
best advice is to call the manufacturer of the hard drive - something is not initializing correctly
@@carquestions I cannot contact them because I am from the country of Iraq and because I don’t know how to get to the company’s page or talk to an employee
Please help with any solution
@@carquestions Is there a device definition?
What is the price of the hard disk and is there a price for the device?
It's $128US.....shipping to Canada is $27US ....add in 33% exchange....and if it get stopped at the border you'll pay brokerage fees and HST.......you'd be looking north of $300 Canadian.....I will just list to the radio.
Hello! I have a 2008 chrysler Sebring. I can't play music on the HDD and I can't upload it! What can cause it?
Sorry FK - if it was me I'd take the unit out at this point - cheers from Canada!
If you have loaded music and it disappeared, you may have a hard drive problem.
If you haven't loaded music, copy some mp3 files to a USB jump drive formatted in FAT32 and use the radio menus to load the music.
There's a video on UA-cam explaining the procedure.
The jump drive must be inserted into the USB port built-in on the radio, not the external one .
Hello do you know what could be the problem if it stopped working Bluetooth and displays “uconnect phone not available”
I usually get that message when my phone is not connected.
Check that your Bluetooth is turned on.
Then go to devices menu and select your phone.
If you haven't PAIRED your phone before, you'll have to activate Siri or whoever is doing the Chrysler voice and say "pair new device ".
It will walk you thru.
Good luck.
I have the Dodge Changer 2008 my Radio went to the blackish screen and the radio come on but never come up I need Help???
Swap out the hard drive
carquestions Again I guess am asking the same thing jus want to explain better the Radio come on but nothing on the screen jus blackish gray nothing! So you telling me to get another hard drive and what size to get? And that will make the Radio start back playing and screen come up?
cbcandylicious I had same problem. Turned out to be bad fuse. Radio comes on now. But have no navigation, hence why I’m watching this vid. Turned out to be M10 yellow 20 amp mini-fuse. Don’t know what it’ll be for you model car.
What size is the torques
T8
Hay alguna manera de cambiarle el logo ese de ram que tu tienes ???
Edgar - Ram logo? what do you mean to ask?
I wonder if a nice small solid state drive would've worked. No moving parts and super quick speed.
TJC450 It would work great - all the news ones after 09 are solid state but the technology is not backward compatible unfortunately
***** You should just be able to put a 2.5 laptop SSD (same exact size as what you put in, just different internals). They should function exactly the same.
FantomLightning Maybe but it better have good specs for cold weather and you would of course have to add the navigation software at an extra cost - mine delivered ready to to Canada was $300 - I think thats fair considering
***** blog.macsales.com/3495-dont-let-the-cold-put-a-chill-on-your-hard-drive An SSD is actually more resistant to cold due to the lack of moving parts and thus the lack of any type of lubricant to freeze. That lack of moving parts also makes them less susceptible to damage from shakes/jolts/vibrations from rough roads. As far as the maps/nav software I'm sure there are copies floating around online for free somewhere, and I doubt it'd be all that difficult to set up.
SSD does not work in the HARMAN systems like RER. We have tried most available PATA SSD models. Can apply a disk image to the SSD but they aren't recognized in the RER system. (We supplied the Hard Drive used in this VIDEO)
Where did you buy harddrive?
can't recall that either - best price on the internet I guess
@@carquestions does map and info need to be installed on it? Can't just buy it anywhere?
The fm/am is nothing but static. Any ideas?
Antenna connection is goofed up somehow Juan
Where did you buy the harddrive
+YouDontPayTheBills just search google for mygig hard drive - I forget his name - small outfit though
Are all the hard drives the same
Nope - they have a heavy duty one that takes the cold a lot better
Some 730N models have 30GB and some have 40GB drive.
A few different brands over the years as well.
The 09 and newer are not equipped with ssd drives. They are still automotive grade ide laptop size drives all they way to at least 2015. Very specific brand ssd drives in specific mygig models can be done. Mygigs are being phased out by the the ra1-4 sales code radios.
+cookingwithjesus Thanks for the new info
There is no such thing as an automotive grade ide drive. They are just old ass laptop ide drives that were sitting on a shelf for years. I guess that's one way to clear out unsold ide drives.
My 2013 Chrysler 200 has a Toshiba HDD2G19 Drive made in 2012. 40GB
What kind hd sata or ide
I just opened is ide hd do anyone have put in any SATA hd instead of the ide
@@jigumaster if there is room go with ide sata adapter and get an ssd drive so dont have to worry about cold. I dont know what my 2011 longhorn has ide or sata but if its ide and there is no room for an adapter to sata I'll extend the drive outside of the radio. That is seriously shitty of them to use a dam ide drive.
There dies seem to be a fair amount of space inside. I don't know if it's enough for the adapter cable. I don't know what it looks like.
Let us know if you have any luck.
would an ssd work?
Don't know - didn't try that
Not directly and perhaps not at all. Noticed @9:00 these drives are IDE. After digging and finding a site that sells preloaded drives, I found nearly ALL of these drives until 2016 are IDE drives. I just recently found this video and autopilot ordered a cheap SSD. At time of posting this comment, I have since ordered a IDE/SATA adapter.
2008 Jeep radio works for about ten minutes then shuts off, after some time it’ll come back on but nothing works, radios on but none of the buttons work
Sounds like a different problem altogether
Have the same problem any recommendations
Where do you get a new hardrive
my 730 n rew shows only a light screen and does nothing - no letters - any idea ? anybody? i changed hdd but nothing happens
Go back and check install instructions and video that is for that HDD - you missed something
My Jeep Patriot radio has started coming in and off whenever it feels like it , in between these times it just has a backlight on the screen with no functions at all
I'm having the same problem with mine on my Liberty.
Any 2.5” laptop hard drive will do
Need the cold weather spec one here in Canada
It turns out my patriot needs a whole new fuse box , transponder and re wired. It then needs reprogramming at Jeep.
Google TIPM module jeep - it screws up everything
You can provide me with the hard drive number
You won't need it - just pick one of the two options for your model number from the supplier
carquestions
Is this disk in the electronic stores please explain this dear friend
An ide hard drive wtf...... they used outdated pre 2003 hardware in a newer vehicle. Ya I'll just throw a new radio in my truck. Those drives might be new but no one has made an ide drive in 15 years so that's old shit that's been sitting on a shelf.
