  • This is Part 3 of the $2 auction series. This 1976 70hp outboard sat for 15 years forgotten in someone's backyard before it got to me. It took a lot of work but its finally finished!

    You have no idea how long I have been waiting for a series of videos like this on Evinrudes!! I have a '73 65hp (very similar) that I have been restoring and I've taken multiple pointers from these videos to get me back in the right direction! Keep making these bro they are really good and hope she works well on the water:)

    check the upper exhaust seal. i say that because as the t stat opens, you should see water coming out of the upper exhaust relief holes. If not, the exhaust will get really hot as no "wall of water" is cooling it. another possibility is the t stat is stuck closed, but you never mentioned cyl head temp so who knows. you want it 125-152.5 degrees at the top of the head. cheers nice score!

    G'day from Australia. Recently returned to boating after a 16 year break via a 5m 1974 runabout with this outboard. Thanks to your easy to follow video I am confident that I too will have this outboard back on the water. So big thanks.

    Good old motors. I have 4 of them, 0ne 1973 65hp evnrude and 0ne 1981 75hp evinrude. I have Rebuilt one of the 70hp evinrude all new every thing. Good little light weight engines for pontoons to small bass boats. Good power and good fuel economy. Good luck with your project.

    Your videos have been great. Loved how u showed each step the way th out did. Always wanted to watch someone break down these outboard motors. You were very knowledgeable on how to check each step to get it to run. Amazed how you brought back an OLD DESERTED MOTOR LIKE THAT EVINRUDE. BACK TOO RUNNING LIFE! I remember when Evinrude an Johnson came out with these 3 in line cylinder motors. With the prop hub exhaust. The 55 hp. Thank you! Again ! Enjoyed in Va.

      It's easier if you put the bushing in place before the linkage

    At 17.45 what did you adjust?? Mine is smoking so much & shuts off when I put it in gear. Can you adjust the carburetor? I cleaned all 3 on mine. Thanks for your help

    • @MakeItBetter1
      @MakeItBetter1  2 роки тому +1

      I was using the threaded adjustment wheel that is on the end of each cable. These carburetors don't have any mixture screws, but some of the linkages can be adjusted to make sure that the butterfly valves open and close all the way.

      I won't be water testing it until spring. I ran one of these on my old jon boat and it was one of the most dependable motors I've owned. Every motor is unique, but I personally have had great luck with these!
