RE-UPLOADED. Due to a glitch in post production, parts of the first upload were zoomed in and looked unwatchable. So I had to take it down. I apologise to all of you who took the time to comment and have already watched. There was no other way round this problem. Thanks, Pat.
I watched it a second time and enjoyed it just as much. I have fond memories of landing at Don Mueang International Airport for the first time way back in January of 1992. I’ll never forget feeling that incredible blast of humidity as soon as I stepped off from the airplane. That airport has such an amazing vibe to it.
@@scottDchicago As you can tell Scott, I'm not much fond of the new airport. You always felt the soft lighting at Don Mueang was giving you a friendly pat on the back as you left whereas the new airport is yelling ''get the hell out of here and don't come back'' I felt that blast of hot air and swiftly ducked back inside my first time, I had to double check where I was on my globe!
Thanks, it's a pleasure to make such content, and not having to stay safe with trending topics such as ''Bangkok reopening after lockdown'' or ''Look at this once busy are during covvid 19'' I think I've only ever mentioned that word once in all the videos I've made.
The content quality is through the roof pat! love how “real” your footage is not sugarcoated, not frowned upon just straight to the point from a realistic pov.
Thanks a lot, I just wanna show the real thing., but I draw the line at filming the people living like that. Those conditions are tough for the people there but I don't wanna pretend it's not happening.
I miss the old airport and Don Muang train station it was much more convenient to get to. I would always spend a few days in the area before leaving Thailand and I often stayed at the Don Muang hotel. It looks like it has changed much over the last few years. I enjoyed this episode very much as always and it gave me more ideas for areas to explore in the Bangkok area.
Ah yes Don Mueang, it triggers so many memories of my first encounter with Bangkok (and Thailand) 20 years ago! I haven't been to the area since they built Suvarnabhumi Airport. Fascinating and interesting perspective. Thanks for the video, Well done Pat.
I'm really excited about what happened. and the red line train station that has been opened From Bang Sue to Rangsit, great. Thank you very much for making such a nice clip for us to watch.
Thanks for your kind words, it's a great line, very fast trains and I want to explore al around each station to see what is now easier to get to. Part 2 is Kan Khaha to Chatuchak then Part 3 is all about Bang Sue and that area. I'm excited to make these videos because can explore new areas!!
Another great vlog, loved the photography of the abandoned buildings. thanks so much,Pat, for your labour of love, brings enjoyment, escapism and education !
Thanks Hans, that's a good place for adventure, all along that line. It's still free, and now that I've finished the stations for parts 1&2, there's just Bang Sue to complete which I plan to be a great vieo...
Love your history lessons you give. I venture into Thailand in late 70s and have seen and been to many of the places before and now. There is a golf course in Don Muang Airport I played at. Your videos is so interesting. Thank you
Cheers mate, I could never live in Rangsit, too drab and grey, like I remember Scarborough as a 6yr old kid. Don Muang is pleassant enough. Lak Hok will probably get a few condos in the next 5yrs.
The presentation of your video’s is great, new subby, and looking forward to viewing all your vids, been going off and on to Thailand since 1973,as a young teen now old guy, love the history and old haunts, well done!!!
Thank you. It was a nice to see a video outside the main part of Bangkok. We often stayed at Rangsit or Don Muang (where we collected the hire ) for a night or two before heading off back to Lopburi. It was good to see the displaced communities being moved into housing and not just abandoned with progress. Was the mansion abandoned ? Or never completed ? Always difficult to tell in Thailand what stage of the life cycle a building is in. And the trusty A2 bus to Victory Monument. We are looking forward to returning “ home “ once travel recommences. Can’t wait for Part 2.
Thanks mate. very interesting places and hard to believe how far away you are. Red Line is just 23 mins to Rangsit from Bang Sue. That mansion, from what I could tell, was very close to or maybe in the grounds of Wat Rangsit. Looked like it had been left for a year or so. Looks like it may be a Part 2&3. There's 7 more stations and those 3 clocked in at 24mins!
Cheers Mai, was a nice change of scenery believe it or not, getting into the suburbs. All 3 places were completely different, only thing in common was the same canal running through!
Love your channel. 7 years subway driver (motorman) and 34 years engine Driver (engineer)on the railways. guess I love trains. Got to drive on in China once!
Hi Pat. I was staying at Amari Don Muang 3 weeks ago. The ares is not as fancy as downtown Bangkok but it was refreshing to be somewhere different and see the common peoples' lives.
Top notch cinematography again Pat. I really enjoy how you manage to elevate the mundane through your camerawork and humour. Looking forward to part 2!
I've learnt so much watching your great content and simultanously following your walks on google maps. Love the way you get historic pics intertwined with the present day.
Having visited TH many times over the last 35 years, I've only ever travelled to DMK airport by taxi and hadn't appreciated that it was anything more than an airport. Whereas I usually travel by train from Swampy. Thanks for another informative vid.
Cheers Andrew, It's a nice enough area, that main road and the streets off it. It will be a bit noisy because of the highway but further in it's no worse than other urban areas for noise.
Thank you for another interesting view of Bangkok. I have been away for 18 months now due to covid and these videos really make me miss the place. My only memory of Rangsit was back in early 2014 when my then Thai GF took me to visit her parents. I was somewhat surprised to find them living in tin shacks on a small building site (a 3 story furniture store) on the Rangsit-Pathum Thani Rd between the khlong and the overhead expressway. I spent the day there and was saddened by the conditions the workers were living in. The building was still just a concrete shell and there were female workers up on the top floor laying bricks between the concrete columns. They had a couple of 3-4 year old kids running around and playing up on that floor. There were no barriers at the edges and a fall would have been fatal. We stayed there till the late hours eating local Thai food and of course JW Red Label and plenty of beer on my tab. Many of the workers joined in our little party and to be honest it was great fun and in the end only cost 2-3 thousand baht. Not bad for entertaining 15 people. Around 11pm it was time to go home and it was almost impossible to get a taxi to take us back to Din Daeng in Bangkok. Finally we ended up negotiating with a taxi to take us home if we paid double fare because there was no way the driver would get a fare back to Rangsit at that time of night. Still, it was only about 300 baht so no big deal. Some of these memories will never fade.
Wow great story Dexter, sounds like one of those stories you can tell for years to come, I've had a few too, and you've obviously had an insight into how the other side lives, not pretty but they don't know much else or have another choice, to the westerner it could be seen as exploitation but it's just the reality. The Red Line gives you the impression you're not far from the city due to the swift 23min journey time at high speeds. In fact it's about 28km to the centre of Bangkok at least. I remember returning a bag someone left at my place and being directed to her house, I gave the phone to the bike taxi guy so she could direct him and we ended up in Khlong Toey Slum, and she came out of this shack, looking all made up and immaculate, I returned the bag of course then left, quite shocked, this was about 20yrs ago.
I remember when they first started building the skytrain. People and workers had shacks bulit in the median. Didn't paid a lot of attention, I did not know what being poor was. Slowly it is getting better. Go into the country, not
Thanks Richard, it's the YT algorithym that rewards activity over quality. So a channel putting out daily dull self indulgent videos featuring the same recurring themes or clickbait will get promoted to the top of search lists, and there are many! My vids take longer to make so I can't upload as often as them!
Absolutely brilliant channel! I actually like Rangsit I’ve stayed at the Asia Airport Hotel a few times. There is a fantastic food market right in front of Zeer Computing Mall. I have a Thai friend who lives near the golf course in Rangsit. Many wonderful memories I look forward to returning soon. You have a new fan mate! Keep it up!!!
Glad you've joined the channel!! Rangsit the wider area is quite adventurous, a bit of a disorganised urban wilderness, which I love, I wish I would have covered it all in a video but it is after all, a city!
I think the trains were manufactured by Hitachi in Japan ? Blue Line trains for extentioncame from Siemens 5 years ago. Hope no more doors open during ride
Ive been living here in Rangsit Klong 2 for almost a decade. You can get almost anything here and i hardly enter into Bkk city. Food here are fantastic especially boat noodles!
awesone to see i used to live in Rangsit, just of klong song towards the stadium, you shpuld go arpund that way sometime, would love to see the old neighbourhood
Thanks Gilbert, I only covered that part of Rangsit as it's around the station area but there's a lot more to the area for sure, and many are interested in seeing these parts around the city more than the same old areas that they all know. Maybe it's getting trendy? But Rangsit is very big, so a video would have to cover select areas.
Thanks Jamie, it's fun riding the line for free and the security are easygoing, allowing you to set up tripods & cameras. BTS and MRT are strictly against tripods as that counts as commercial usage meaning you gotta pay. BTS security allow you to take photos at the ends of the platforms. Airport Rail Link are just OTT with their no pictures whatsoever anywhere policy. Their service is crap so maybe that's why. I got another 2 parts to shoot on this line so it'll be a fun month.
Nice shirt, Pat. Way more stylish than those tees. Suits your channel better, for mine. Another classy, informative, professional production. Be great if future videos could include a map showing where in Bangkok you are ...
@@BangkokPat nice camera work. I like your videos for the historical content and smart commentary but the bonus is some great shots for context and reflection. Could stand to have more visual poetic shots tbh.
Which one in particular? The staff at the stations are great unlike the MRT / BTS / ARL. They let you set up tripods and shoot anything you want. You gotta pay to do that on the BTS (security do let you shoot freely but you can't use a tripod) and MRT but the ARL the worst. They see you carrying a camera and they tell you ''no cam'' even if you got no intentions.
@@BangkokPat The shot on the empty train with the landscape disappearing into the background over both of your shoulders ... technically very interesting and it had good sound quality.
Great knowledge Well done pat.... really enjoyed this , with the history, don muang was main airport when I first came , Now serving as domestic airport I'm always happy to fly into 👍
Yes, very nice covering this part of town and as you say, obviously a little bit off the beaten path. Now and then having an early morning flight from Don Muang I try to spend some overnight time in this area. Excellent and easy coming here from Hua Lamphong (close to Chinatown ). A lot of really cheap street-food just next to the airport. The wat (temple) here is also nice. The area along the khlong (channel) is, let´s say ...."interesting". A totally different part of the city and life for people up here compared to the every youtubers´ paradise, Sukhumwit and Nana!
Thanks Bo, I quite liked Don Muang, it had a lot of nicer parts than I imagined it would and as the video says, it's very livable indeed and now of course accessible quickly by the Red line. The canals aren't walkable at all due to the homes, and I didn't really fancy walking amongst their private space. There's more to come along that line, and as the canal pretty much runs alongside, there will be more on that of course!
Thanks Sam, definitely a unique area, where I'm actually looking for interesting things rrather than knowing beforehand where to head for. With soi dogs I've found you can walk tall, adopt an angry face and glare at them, show no fear whatsoever. They tend to stop short, or, you just pretend they're not there and walk on, don't acknowledge. It's odd how they pick on these things, and ignoring them you're just an empty thing walking by, no connection. Fear makes a connection. I was badly bitten aged 5 and I learned it ever since.
Thanks a lot, those areas are unexplored although I saw a silent wobbly walking video by JWINTHAI around Lak Hok. Not sure if that really counts as a bonafide exploration.
I don’t mind watching twice was great viewing Pat,sorry I missed the live stream got back from work look forward to part2,,and there is area’s of Bangkok you definitely wouldn’t want to be late at night,,
Thanks Geoff, Rangsit wouldn't be too scenic late at night although you'd definitely find a few rough and ready drinking dives in that village I'm sure. Doesn't mean you wouldn't be welcome though. That's the great thing about this country. Lak Hok has a couple of restaurants on that lake that looked nice, Don Muang definitely has a great street food/al fresco beer drinking scene going.
Top quality Pat as ever. You've captured Rangsit possibly before it turns into another building site of condos and malls no doubt. I hope the cat will be found thanks to your publicity! I've been through the secret passage a few times usually after a late, nerve wracking, night train journey to the airport from up north. Maybe the new line and trains will be more punctual although less charismatic. I once stayed in Don Muang town overnight and I remember getting absolutely drenched walking to the airport very early one morning. It was April 1st so I thought it was still dry season but I certainly felt the fool for not having an umbrella! Cheers mate!
Thanks very much! I reckon it'll take a few years of social housing and tidying things up for the lower end then places like the crappy old bus station will be razed for its first glossy condo. Tha cat poster was gone by the 4th visit, it belonged to a pharmacy shop who probably left it outside on a string and it made a break for freedom. You can't keep cats like that, it's not fair on them. The new line is free at the moment and trains run every 30mins, every 15 during rush hours. It's still a ''trial'' and they have so many trains still parked at the depot so it'll improve. Don Muang town isn't bad at all. Looks clean and I didn't see any beggars.
This makes me realize that one wishing to go a bit native and live the local village life can now do so and still have easy access to modern rapid transit into sukhumvit. Lak Hok, being so close to the university gives great access to good and cheap food, markets, entertainment and super easy to Don Meung. Close enough to the big city if you want it but far enough away to have a more immersion experience if your learning the language
Great insights to places least likely to be treaded. It all adds up to understand the total sum of what is Bangkok really is and making us more knowledgeable. Thanks again, Pat !
Since I subscribed to your channel, few days ago, my urgency to come back to Thailand has increased a lot more than what it was used to.. 😢 It wishes to be a compliment.. But it hurts.
Great video again Pat... Don Muang brings back a lot of memories from my earlier trips to Thailand... Especially the stairs to the baggage belts after immigration I will never forget. Just off the record, did I see some green screen footage in this video?
Some really interesting places and topics on your channel Pat. The Nana story was interesting. A very interesting piece in the BP about the family . New subscriber . ✌🏾

Shaz, thank you very much and I'm happy that you found my channel! I'm a lover of good indian food and am planning to travel one day to Chennai to visit a good friend. Hope you check out a few other videos too!
Khlong rangsit is the first mega-infratructure project in Thailand. It was dug to be sold for agriculture use, as a part of economic development plan in that era.
There was a whole pdf and more really old pictures I wanted to translate so I could give more info but I thought it would take too much time, I read about the land problems and who profited, etc and thought it would probably be worth its own video when I get more subscribers and more viewers would want to see it. I want to do a couple of videos more about the social housing projects and clearance of old communities along the khlongs.
On of UA-cam's greatest mysteries. Your channel should have 10 times more viewed and sub's. The best Bangkok content I've ever seen. Educational and entertaining with local secrets that even locals don't know. Excellent audio, video, and professional editing. Spectacular content requiring tremendous effort, skill, and dedication. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us!!!!!
Thanks a lot for the compliments Alex, I don't really know what grabs the attention, a friend thinks that viewers prefer to be told what to do and led by an ego driven loudmouth and it won't matter about the quality of content. And last time I checked there's a few of those channels churning out boring content in the same old locations with same 'trending' themes. Some even repeat the news channels or go around giving out cash, I saw one leave an 800 Baht tip on Koh Chang. Cringeworthy stuff, but who am I to criticise? After all I have only a fraction of their subs 😇
@@BangkokPat Thanks for the reply. I agree that quality content is not a primary element of the YT algorithm. Sad to see clickbait and other trash being rewarded by YT. Your content should be at the top of the list when someone searches YT for any Bangkok related topics. I just wanted you to know that your viewers and subscribers really appreciate your terrific content. Sub's don't represent the content creator's talent or contributions. The only reason you aren't at the top of the Bangkok genre is because the algorithm doesn't promote your channel . If the algorithm used quality as the main criteria, your numbers would rise dramatically. Thanks again for the excellent content that we trust and enjoy.
@@alexthai4957 Good point Alex, it rewards activity and doesn't care about the content. I gave up with all the ''tips'' you read and watch that are supposed to get you in the algorithyms favour, the bottom line is to make decent content I suppose, the trash won't last forever! Thanks.
Don Muang is a nice area, around the temple there's lots of little hostels you'd like, locals were friendly, you'd have fun walking around there, plus street food galore!
Greetings from Chiang Mai in wet season ✌️🐸🌻 I just found your channel very good quality content about Thailand and Bangkok.. just subscribed and please stay safe and healthy . Sorry for my English I am Thai but really ❤️ to watching what is going on in my capital.

Great vlog, as always, thanks Pat. Although it looks closed at the moment, I wonder if the Royal Thai Air Force Museum at Don Mueang is on your list to visit around there? It looks interesting.
I used to go to Rangsit to go to mall to watch movies when my friend lived in Lam lukka in Pathumthani.. going north on khlong Rangsit there are boat restaurants, this is where "boat noodles" originated.
I didn't know that, although further along the canal is a floating market but I'm just exploring around the stations. I didn't even bother with Future Park, a bit too far!
Hi Pat that was a great way to describe Don Muang airport . I do miss the old airport I still remember the 1st time I stepped on Thai soil and when I stepped off the plane the heat OMG my face felt like it was burning !!!!!!!!! I loved the little side exit that is still there. With the new train system up and running I want to spend a day seeing BKK from all the train lines !!!!! its changed so much since I was last there. Roll on next year . In one way the houses that are being cleared along the klong is a shame as the people there are happy with how they live. It will be a major change for them hopefully a good one . Great Vlog stay safe Pat
Thanks Jimmy, Don Muang was a sad ''loss'' as I hate the other airport. We all had that blast furnace on our first time arriving, I had to go back inside and double check the atlas, was I in the right place? There's a nice view of the airport from the platform and in the distance is the new BTS line so goes to show how far this city has evolved, albiet a few years overdue. There's a lot of social housing going up all along that canal and I'll show more in Part 2 as that canal pretty much runs alongside the line.
The last day I was there, the notice was taken down so maybe they did find it, it belonged to a pharmacy store nearby. And those trains are so smooth that my tripod didn't wobble at all when shooting!! Thanks very much for the comment!
Very interesting. Why did they not use the hopewell structure? I mean why didtyey dismantle it and replace it with a different structure? (I was always puzzled that it sat there idle for years).
The Hopewell structures weren't strong enough. When built there was rumours of corruption and low grade concrete being used. Someone mentioned that had it been completed and open there could have been a disaster.
Good to see you getting out and about Bangkok Pat and very pleasing to see your subscriber numbers starting to increase. Keep up the good work, my flight is booked for the 12th of December I'm still 50 50 on if it will take off with me on board!
Thanks Ashley, it was refreshing to get out of the choking city and good that it's only 23 minutes from Bang Sue to Rangsit, those trains are fast! Why are you still 50/50?
@@BangkokPat I'm from the UK and Thailand is currently on the red list. I'm hoping by the time December comes round that would have changed. I don't want to quarantine on my return home.
interesting comparison with Golders Green Bus Station..... I've never found it that gloomy there, even in the 1980s as one of my Routemaster bus uploads from 1986 shows, although that was summer time..... Your uploads are a wealth of information, i now know where to go to see some aviation action at Don Muang!
Actually I meant Plymouth bus station, the old one where the buses line up diagonally. At the time I was thinking of Golders Green, dunno why, then I thought nobody will notice anyway........and you have! Shame on me.
@@BangkokPat Lol.... Oh sorry Pat, i just thought Golders is quite nice unlike say the original Stratford Bus Stn, under a multi story car park, i grew up using that one. At Plymouth i have never ventured beyond the station, so you're safe there....... Rich
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus parts of Plymouth still has a lot of 60s concrete, and I used to change buses there sometimes if I travelled to Cornwall, where I lived for a while a few years ago. I think I asked you before if you had any video of buses around Holloway/Finsbury Park in the 70s-90s....
@@BangkokPat I have this one live already showing FP in 1999 ua-cam.com/video/9hWtd8m1sMk/v-deo.html. I don't appear to have anything from the Holloway area proper, there is film from around Holloway Gargae/Junction Road. I will check my hard drives tomorrow and see what else i can dig up.....
There are a few buildings along that Song Prapha Road, one looked like it housed cabin crew, had an aeroplane at the entrance. Nice area I thought, clean streets and friendly people. I was shooting a 10 minute timelapse standing in the road and it started raining. Lady from a pharmacy came out and offered me an umbrella and said leave it outside the shop when I'm done as she was closing.
Splendid effort Pat the old Thailand i fell in love with is fast disappearing even up north.I'm playing catch up on you're excellent content i'v been busy not been online for 2 months.I'v been cloned by the biggest troll in the Thai UA-cam genre so look out for any abuse of another only fools Lol.take care Pat
Thanks mate, I hear what you're saying, which is why I'm racing round trying to catch all this ''before'' footage of the city on video befre it all gets demolished to make way for malls, starbucks, 7-11s and condos.
Another enjoyable watch and I’ll watch it again later. I’d forgotten the railway line to the north ran through Don Mueang. Is it the Eastern train line from Hua Lampong that runs underneath the BTS at Phaya Thai? I remember watching from above a diesel loco pull away from there, a loud thrash from the engine which echoed off all surrounding concrete structures. Terrific sound - but I was a bit of a rail geek back in the 80s!
Thanks a lot, I witnessed many contraptions passing themselves off as trains rumbling along the tracks doing this video, and I'll see more no doubt when I do parts 2&3. It's the Eastern Line through Makkasan and from what I've seen there is no physical track connecting it to Bang Sue. The only viaducts connecting from Bang Sue were left unfinished as in my Hua Lamphong video.
My first time seeing one of your videos but I really appreciate the amount of research that went into this and the quality of the photography. Being a “native” of Pathum Thani made it all the more enjoyable. Subbed.
Thank you Derek, glad you found the channel and decided to sub. I would love to explore further out around there but there's only one of me so time is a factor!
I think Pat talked more than Pete during that interview 😂 thanks for the exploration! Rangsit seems like a place everyone forgot about but my guess is that it’s up for redevelopment (malls, mcdonalds and starbucks) due to the train in a few years? Don Mueang on the other hand looks like a great district. Looking forward to use the secret door and take the train before they shut it down completely. See you on Part 2 or the livestream whichever comes first! 😎
Future Park at Rangsit is huuuge. Rangsit is well on the development pathway and has a large university nearby It’s essentially the most northerly point of bkk before driving to Ayutya etc
@@padgaprao2617 Ah thanks for that! I've just researched the pictures and it is massive. Should be worth a visit sooner rather than later before the condos start popping up.
I reckon there will be a development around Lak Hok,the uni, and around that lake when the slums are moved into the new housing. It's pleasant around there.
Thanks Liro, Pete's a great bloke,w e had a blast shooting that and we'd already shot another interview in Bang Sue we didn't use as the light was fading and the noise was too much. Rangsit may see some development in the next 5yrs, they need to clean up a bit first, a lot of lower income people and the slums to accomadate first I think. There's a lot of social housing projects along that particular canal, more coming in Parts 2&3 as it runs alongside the line.
Great content as always, don’t think I will be going to Rangsit any time soon … ps. I used that ”secret” passage to the Don Mueang train station last time I was there too. When I took the night train up to Krasang.
Cheers mate. Maybe I was slightly OTT saying that doorway is hardly used! I meant for those heading into Bangkok. It'd be useful if you timed your flight to land in time for a night train...
@@foodtaliban It's free at the moment, fares will be a maximum of 42 Baht I think, but it's a bit of a trek from the station to the airport along the skywalk. The railway station has the prime spot right opposite.
Very professionally done your videos are. Those homes on the water, must not smell too nice. The water looks unclean and maybe full of mosquitoes. Oh well, that's Thailand
Both, I think. Reminded me of those Bronx videos after they were clearing the slums in the 80s. Quite rundown and lower income area. Who knows though, the condos might start getting built in the next 10yrs!

Another great vlog, loved the photography of the abandoned buildings. thanks so much,Pat, for your labour of love, brings enjoyment, escapism and education !
Thanks Rick, a great shoot this video was, nice to get out of Bangkok for a change.
when we get back to BKK, so much will have changed! Thank you for your attempts to keep us informed, so we won't get lost if we ever can come back :)
Thank you
It's just a pleasure to watch your show. Thanks!
Thank you Bruno, glad you enjoyed that! Many more locations to be found as well, and many more coming too.....👍
Your videos make me miss BKK so much.
Thanks Steve, sorry to hear you're missing the place but surely there's always another time?
Enjoyable video Pat there is so much to explore in Bangkok
Cheers mate, I could never live in Rangsit, too drab and grey, like I remember Scarborough as a 6yr old kid. Don Muang is pleassant enough. Lak Hok will probably get a few condos in the next 5yrs.
Very pleased I found your channel ... appreciate your highly detailed info
Thanks Rob, glad you've found my channel, plenty of other locations to check out too!
The presentation of your video’s is great, new subby, and looking forward to viewing all your vids, been going off and on to Thailand since 1973,as a young teen now old guy, love the history and old haunts, well done!!!
Thanks Bruce, nice of you to say so. I'm currently shooting part 2 and there's a few places that will interest many I'm hoping, including the prison!
Great part 2 Pat.
I'm not that fast. In fact part 2 has twice as many stations so maybe part 3 will be needed. There is a great ghost story in Part 2.
Good luck Prathunthani
Vety big province and I wanna explore more!
I love your soundtracks👍
Thanks! I choose them carefully, from a site with little known artistes
Cracking quality vlog Pat watched it twice , just as good the second time around , Thanks for what you do.
Cheers Mai, was a nice change of scenery believe it or not, getting into the suburbs. All 3 places were completely different, only thing in common was the same canal running through!
Another professional grade production. Thank you for sharing.
Many thanks Michael, parts 2&3 coming as well. I can't wait to get back on the train, and it's free!
Love your channel. 7 years subway driver (motorman) and 34 years engine Driver (engineer)on the railways. guess I love trains. Got to drive on in China once!
Cheers, and great to hear that, very dedicated, 34yrs!
Nice Video. Clear Information and Very Good Research you make. 🙏
Thanks Gert, great to hear from you 👍
Very informative video, keep up your good work 👍👍
Thanks very much!! many locations to choose from, and many more coming too!
Hi Pat. I was staying at Amari Don Muang 3 weeks ago. The ares is not as fancy as downtown Bangkok but it was refreshing to be somewhere different and see the common peoples' lives.
I quite like it around there, if I had to choose between there and many places I'd settle for that part of Don Muang!
so much research, brilliant work
Very informative Thanks
Thank you very much 👍
Top notch cinematography again Pat. I really enjoy how you manage to elevate the mundane through your camerawork and humour. Looking forward to part 2!
Thanks a lot mate, I had a bit of a job to make Rangsit look appealing, maybe a few more cats would have helped?
I've learnt so much watching your great content and simultanously following your walks on google maps. Love the way you get historic pics intertwined with the present day.
Having visited TH many times over the last 35 years, I've only ever travelled to DMK airport by taxi and hadn't appreciated that it was anything more than an airport.
Whereas I usually travel by train from Swampy.
Thanks for another informative vid.
Cheers Andrew, It's a nice enough area, that main road and the streets off it. It will be a bit noisy because of the highway but further in it's no worse than other urban areas for noise.
Great quality content, lots of interesting information and old pictures, liked the extra effort that's on into the content
Thanks Chris, it's an obscure area to cover in terms of the ''vlogging'' scene but many channels are already covering the same old spots so why not!
you are the best Sir thank you
Thanks very much! glad you enjoyed it,
Wow, really interesting and very well done.Pat you have the best videos of the real Bangkok and should have ten times the views.
Thanks Leigh, nice of you to say so mate.
@@BangkokPat its a reminder, what shocks us need not, because its mostly in the mind 😀
I remember when they first started building the skytrain. People and workers had shacks bulit in the median. Didn't paid a lot of attention, I did not know what being poor was. Slowly it is getting better. Go into the country, not
Great video. V interesting. Wife comes from out that direction.
Cheers mate, was a great video to shoot, all that exploring !!!
Thanks Pat.
I don't understand why you don't have more people who are subscribed to your channel.
I will do the whole area of Rangsit one day, this video was just exploring near the stations.
awesone to see i used to live in Rangsit, just of klong song towards the stadium, you shpuld go arpund that way sometime, would love to see the old neighbourhood
Really enjoying your videos. Loving how U are exploring all areas off the big Durian..😁😁😁😁
Thanks Robert, it's a big city and I wanna get around it all!!
Another excellent video Pat. The presentation, the info, the music all top👍
Thanks Silver Fox, which shirt in particular? I'm running low on decent shirts now!
Great video cheers Pat 😎🙏🇹🇭
Thank you Brendan 👍
Saw the interview with Pete. It was great. You're a solid geezer. Excellent video.
Thanks Chris, Red Line is the best of all the lines in Bkk. Those trains can move!
@@BangkokPat nice camera work. I like your videos for the historical content and smart commentary but the bonus is some great shots for context and reflection. Could stand to have more visual poetic shots tbh.
Excellent well done mate.
Thanks mate 👍
the train shot was good..
Great knowledge Well done pat.... really enjoyed this , with the history, don muang was main airport when I first came ,
Now serving as domestic airport I'm always happy to fly into 👍
Yes, very nice covering this part of town and as you say, obviously a little bit off the beaten path.
Thanks BP. Another interesting glimpse of present and the past.
Do you ever worry about the soi dogs?
Thanks Sam, definitely a unique area, where I'm actually looking for interesting things rrather than knowing beforehand where to head for.
With soi dogs I've found you can walk tall, adopt an angry face and glare at them, show no fear whatsoever. They tend to stop short, or, you just pretend they're not there and walk on, don't acknowledge. It's odd how they pick on these things, and ignoring them you're just an empty thing walking by, no connection. Fear makes a connection. I was badly bitten aged 5 and I learned it ever since.
Enjoyed learning & exploring Rangsit & Lak Hok areas Pat and thank you for sharing the My Maps links to help easily find identify geographically.
Excellently presented Pat. Extremely insightful. 🙏
Thanks Tim, made a nice change doing that vid, get out of town for a while!
Great video as always, Pat. Can't believe to see you at almost 4500 subs also. Great stuff, really makes me miss the city and life in it.
Thanks Lloyd, subs are creeping up the last few months, which is great!
Great stuff Pat, cheers.
Thanks Terry mate👍
This makes me realize that one wishing to go a bit native and live the local village life can now do so and still have easy access to modern rapid transit into sukhumvit. Lak Hok, being so close to the university gives great access to good and cheap food, markets, entertainment and super easy to Don Meung. Close enough to the big city if you want it but far enough away to have a more immersion experience if your learning the language
Great insights to places least likely to be treaded. It all adds up to understand the total sum of what is Bangkok really is and making us more knowledgeable.
Thanks again, Pat !
Thanks, I've still got 7 stations left to explore on the line, 5 of which are pretty obscure!
Since I subscribed to your channel, few days ago, my urgency to come back to Thailand has increased a lot more than what it was used to.. 😢
It wishes to be a compliment.. But it hurts.
Thanks for the compliment Matteo, hope you make it back soon, it may be a hassle now but should get easier in a couple months.
Very cool Pat. Thank you mate.
Thanks Bill mate👍
Great job, as usual. Cheers!
Thanks very much 👍
Great video again Pat... Don Muang brings back a lot of memories from my earlier trips to Thailand... Especially the stairs to the baggage belts after immigration I will never forget. Just off the record, did I see some green screen footage in this video?
Thanks Bert, green screen? Like where? It certainly wasn't intentional!
Some really interesting places and topics on your channel Pat. The Nana story was interesting. A very interesting piece in the BP about the family . New subscriber . ✌🏾
Thanks, I try to get around a bit more to the places other channels are too lazy to or don't know about, and this I think gives a bit of variety.

@@BangkokPat ..always welcome to south india
Khlong rangsit is the first mega-infratructure project in Thailand. It was dug to be sold for agriculture use, as a part of economic development plan in that era.
There was a whole pdf and more really old pictures I wanted to translate so I could give more info but I thought it would take too much time, I read about the land problems and who profited, etc and thought it would probably be worth its own video when I get more subscribers and more viewers would want to see it. I want to do a couple of videos more about the social housing projects and clearance of old communities along the khlongs.
Great video Pat
Thanks Tyrone 👍
This was really good man. The editing is great. Looking forward to more.
Thanks Alex, there's Part 2&3 coming too.
Thanks.
Donmuang looks like my kinda station :p nice video mate! I watched all of it 😄
Don Muang is a nice area, around the temple there's lots of little hostels you'd like, locals were friendly, you'd have fun walking around there, plus street food galore!
Brilliant stuff Pat!

Greetings from Chiang Mai in wet season ✌️🐸🌻 I just found your channel very good quality content about Thailand and Bangkok.. just subscribed and please stay safe and healthy . Sorry for my English I am Thai but really ❤️ to watching what is going on in my capital.

Nice to see you outside of the city, Pat!
Thanks mate! It was great to get out there and dig out some info on those lesser known areas. Can't wait to do Parts 2&3!
Great vlog, as always, thanks Pat. Although it looks closed at the moment, I wonder if the Royal Thai Air Force Museum at Don Mueang is on your list to visit around there? It looks interesting.
Thanks Kevan, I would imagine that is closed at present, although I didn't look. Google will probably say it's open when it's not.
@Pat B Thank you! Good advice… I’ll definitely visit once it reopens. I hope all the museums and galleries here do so soon.
Just found your channel Pat. Loved the content mate. Hope to catch your next livestream.
Thanks mate, glad you've joined. Livestream is next saturday!
@@BangkokPat Cheers, will look out for it.
Filming in the train while it was moving is cool.
And I feel sorry for a person who lost a cat. Hope it could be found.

Property prices put around Don Mueng are very reasonable and the houses are pretty decent sizes, too.
There are a few buildings along that Song Prapha Road, one looked like it housed cabin crew, had an aeroplane at the entrance. Nice area I thought, clean streets and friendly people. I was shooting a 10 minute timelapse standing in the road and it started raining.
@@BangkokPat Cheers Pat, will be good to see the next parts.

Rangsit is well on the development pathway and has a large university nearby
It’s essentially the most northerly point of bkk before driving to Ayutya etc
Future park is a day out in itself, and there's also the van station there where you can go anywhere in the country for a fair cost.
Great content as always, don’t think I will be going to Rangsit any time soon …
ps.
@@BangkokPat How much is the cost for a ticket on the Red Line from BKK up to Don Mueang. Is it still cheaper if you share a taxi up there?
@@foodtaliban It's free at the moment, fares will be a maximum of 42 Baht I think, but it's a bit of a trek from the station to the airport along the skywalk. The railway station has the prime spot right opposite.
It is very common that people don't repaint there building or houses. It is so cheap to repaint house or building in Thailand but hardly anyone do it.
And it doesn't take long to do!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks
Very professionally done your videos are.
Those homes on the water, must not smell too nice. The water looks unclean and maybe full of mosquitoes. Oh well, that's Thailand
Where are we going to on the next video 😅 ?
A few places, Buster, trust me. I'm doing it right now!
@@BangkokPat Ok, I'm looking forward to seeing it.
Is it the cloudy atmosphere or Rangsit is very rundown and gloomy? I got such a Detroit vibe from it.
Both, I think. Reminded me of those Bronx videos after they were clearing the slums in the 80s. Quite rundown and lower income area. Who knows though, the condos might start getting built in the next 10yrs!
As always an interesting video made by you in the classical - i called it always - "BBC-Style. It's always nice to see a different style in making videos. Well done Pat
Thanks Franko, it was an interesting area to shoot, probably the most run down large area, another comment said it reminded them of Detroit or Bronx in the 80s.
Those Eyes - Nynetynyne 🧐
I just read online you’re (were) “DJ Pat”-I remember that name from the old Ajarn forum 2004-ish.
Yes, that was me. back in the good old days!
Just 45 years late. It is better to be late than never. I guess Hopewell Project law suits have been resolved.
Yes, it took them long enough, so long that benefits weren''t really felt by those from the last 2 decades, Hopewell was resolved, very expensively!
