    I remember some years back, I serviced the mono-wiper on my Mercedes 190e. On some cars, you could just take the cover off the top to grease the internals etc., but on my car you took the whole assembly off, and disassembled it from the bottom. Everything went well, except for the fact I didn't time it correctly. In the end I found information on how to time it, and it works great now. Thanks for the video. Cheers, Rob.

      @@zambam3 Yes I remember working on one years ago when I ran the garage but I can’t remember what I did. Something about getting it timed correctly after sorting out the seized mechanism. Has that sort of ram effect to throw the blade out to the edge of the screen. Glad you enjoyed the video.

    What a complicated system and a very nice repair. Those doors sound fantastic must have taken a lot of time to get them that 👌

      @marksitaliangarage  3 місяці тому +2

      @@stephenlmckeown1439 There are far simpler ways of making the wipers work. The Lucas system fitted to the Maserati is so much easier. It is still available on the aftermarket and I have fitted the whole kit to the Amphicar. But I must admit I quite enjoy the complexity of the Dino Coupe system for no other reason than it is interesting to see something different.
      The Coupe is a real quality car and when you get the doors working properly they do sound great. I made new door skins during the restoration you can see them in the ROMA videos .

    You're not going to believe it Mark but this week I am working on the wipers on my Dino Spider. Took the panel off and found out the motor is MISSING completely. I think 30 years ago the owner couldn't find a replacement and just chucked it. Plenty of motors still available today. We are getting closer to finishing the mechanical and electric issues after months of work. Thanks for the great videos!

      Wiper motors for 2 litre Dinos are hard to find, and only shared with the Fiat 124 AC coupe IIRC. The gears break and seize the motor, and they burn out. Available replacements need messing about with relays to make them work

    If memory serves, I had a lot of friction in the cable connecting the LH wiper gear to the motor drive. Cleaned rust out w WD-40 then sprayed some lightweight aeresol hinge (?) grease in there. Also the vertical bushing drives that hold the blades had way to much resistance and required similar treatment. As always, a tip of ther hat for the great work you do.

    • @marksitaliangarage
      @marksitaliangarage  3 місяці тому +1

      @@yellowrat77 They do suffer with corrosion especially in the wheel box shaft. It is possible to strip them down to clean it out and lubricant but the spline part is a press fit so can be tricky. Some if not all of the 2400 have bolt down wiper arms and appropriate shafts in the wheel box so they are easy to deal with.
      I had been through the whole system on ROMA years ago. It’s actually the job that it actually came in for originally and then stayed for the restoration.

    We used to use Devcon Flexane, castable rubber for making these coupling spiders. That was before Sikaflex. Flexane was expensive but brilliantly versatile.

    • @marksitaliangarage
      @marksitaliangarage  3 місяці тому

      @@MadDogMark11 Sikaflex was the go to for years but now my local supplier carries Tiger Seal I’m sure it is pretty much the same thing and at £10 a tube it is good value. It does tend to go off in the end of the tube but as you have seen I tend to get my moneys worth by sticking a screw driver in the tube and pushing it out of the side. It’s very versatile and has got me out of trouble on many occasions.

    What a fantastic video, thank you, Mark! My 2.4l has the problem that only the intermittent wiper mode is not working. The continuous mode is fine. I have tried to change the relay and the wiper motor itself, but it didnt help... I think many Dinos have this problem and I just dont know why.

    How did you know what the coupling should look like? Did the part you had come from another Dino?

      @marksitaliangarage  3 місяці тому

      @@CraigJones-x5t The white nylon spline parts are what was left of the original.
      The black coupler is from a 2400 unit which looks different, I assume that it was modified during the production and development phase. I made my one with the steel sleeve to allow the Tiger seal something to bond to, it’s just something that I thought would work. The original design would not have this sleeve. Just a sort of bonded rubber coupling.
