Dino Floor

FIAT Dino Spider rear floor pans are shorter than those of the Coupe. They are rather valuable to rust and tend to corrode from the inside due to leaks from the roof. The Coupe gives far less problems here. I have made plenty of Spider floors in the past and can see that there will be plenty more in the future. With this in mind I have decided to develop my tooling for greater detail and repeti...

I have made lots of trim pieces for this Maserati all hand formed in brass just like they did at the factory. Once chrome plated you really can’t tell them apart from factory original. This is a different edit of an old film that I think is worth revisiting. I hope that you enjoy it!
Fiat Dino Carburettor trouble.

Performance of ROMA was feeling a little blunted. Investigation proved that on acceleration one throttle pump was not working. Which I guess would equate to a 30 percent drop in performance on initial acceleration. That’s enough to notice! All power restored now. Enjoy the film.

Title FIAT Dino wiper repair.
Переглядів 5312 місяці тому
FIAT Dino Coupe window wipers are the clap hands style. Many Italian cars also use them so this repair might just be of use for owners of other cars. The FIAT Dino Spider has wipers of the more conventional style and are of a totally different design. You can see how the Coupe style works and how I fixed them.
FIAT Dino panel development work.

The development of the new FIAT Dino Spider rear floor pans continues. I have made these before but I want to make tooling for more consistent repeatability. It’s difficult work as they are factory pressed panels with a relatively deep draw on the press tooling. To make by hand is rather involved as you can see from the video. I’m getting near but not quite perfect yet !

A deep dive into the FIAT Dino platform and how similar the Coupe and Spider are. It’s quite possible to shorten the Coupe platform and create a Spider from it. You could even swap from 2000 to 2400. Certainly a lot of work but entirely possible.

    Interesting as always, Mark! But, if looking at the "blueprint pics" of the Weber DCN and DCNF carburettors, there is a small one-direction ball valve inside the accelerator pump housing, which seems to be hold in place by the small metal part you found lying in the float chamber. Without this ball valve , I suspect the accelerator pump will not work very well? When restoring my own carburettors, I could hear these small balls rattle, when I shake the dismantled main carburettor housings!

    • @marksitaliangarage
      @marksitaliangarage 22 дні тому

      @@Dinoswede-o9j I think you are correct and the ball valve works as a one way valve allowing fuel to enter the pump chamber from the float bowl. But it prevents fuel returning when the pump is operated forcing the fuel through the acceleration jets . This explains why the plug has the tail. The ball must still be in place as it operates correctly and drives perfectly. The acceleration was slightly blunted before. You can see in the video that all three pumps are operating correctly. I do have a Webber book somewhere but could not find it. Thank you for your comment it has been very useful. I will investigate this further.

      @@marksitaliangarage hello Mark, thought you might be vaguely interested in the NA 2-litre 16V DOHC VVT engine based on a Fiat (Lampredi) 1500 block and Ferrari F136 head currently installed in the Fiat X1/9 driven by Gianluca Ticci. There's several videos of the car on yt. Cheers.

      @@marksitaliangarage I began a project to build a fast road modified X1/9 a few years ago. Might even be finished in another year who knows. I haven't weighed it yet and it hasn't been mapped, but I'm hoping for approx 795kg/155bhp. It has an all-synchro short close ratio 1/2/3/4 Bacci gearset and LSD. It has the original Fiat 5th gear for cruising and the original Fiat reverse. It has an Omex ECU, wasted spark distributorless ignition, Jenvey 40mm ITB's, big valves, Kent cam w. adjustable pulley, 11:1 compression, Faulkner springs 175lb" front 225lb" rear, Gaz 2-way adjustable struts, Addco front ARB, Tillett seat as per Lotus Elise Cup, Avon ZZS 185/55/13 on Image 6J rims. I enjoyed the video thanks 👍 Custom instrument panel with SPA digital stepper tach and speedo. 4x Hella fixed position headlamps instead of pop ups.

      @@markbowden7238 cool ! I look forward to seeing it. ABARTH and Dallara did great things with the X19 . The Cosentino FAZA X19 race world was a real inspiration for me ! I found a copy at an auto jumble 30 years ago and I never really recovered !

    Why do the timing belts only last 15,000 miles on these? On a normal car they go 60,000 miles.

    I have the original set up done by Dinopoint and it works very well. When it stops being fine I will defo take the Elshout system. What is the price of the set-up installed?

    • @marksitaliangarage
      @marksitaliangarage Місяць тому

      @@tonysangwine-gould4733 The original system is excellent so yes definitely keep using it. I have only used the Elshout system when the original Dinoplex is missing or faulty. I would keep the original system intact. So it can be with the car even if you are running the new system. I’m not sure of the cost as I ask my customers to buy directly from Stefan.
