I think ding is serious challenger for WC tittle, he is good in classical and both rapid and blitz. Fabi is good in classical but he lack in rapid and blitz. I hope he can go to candidates and try to claim the throne
Ding is kind of inconsistent lately but he's the only player in history who beat Magnus in tiebreak. The guy is cold blooded that time that Magnus never had a chance throughout the match. I am a Magnus fan but I support Ding also as I want good chess. Actually I want him to win candidates last time but his 1st half is so bad
@@illusion6559 Let's be honest we don't know Carlsen's kryptonite yet. In 2 years, if Ding is there, we will see. Even if Magnus stays number 1 for 2 years and then losses that match, he will still be the GOAT.
New mythical chess player: Not 2am Ding Liren! I really didn't know Ding was this strong a player since whenever I'd see him play, he was usually in China playing in American time tournaments and wasn't playing at full-strength. What a showing by both guys, it was awesome to watch, best chess match I've ever seen!
Ding is the only person who has ever beaten Carlsen in a blitz tiebreaker and was briefly the highest rated blitz player in the world in 2018. He's also been the world number two for several years in classical, and has been over 2800 for over 4 years. He's also currently world number 2 in rapid. He's going to be the betting favorite vs nepomniatchi for the world championship next february.
Such an insanely entertaining match! Ding was so 💪 with his openings and positional play and Hikaru so resilient, opportunistic, and tactically alert especially with his endgame play. This was so, so epic! Felt bad one of them had to lose it. Huge props taking the 3x champ all the way to Armageddon and having his opportunities to clinch even before that. Not his year, but with this kind of performance, it'd be no surprise to see him in a future finals. What a tourney this is!
They didn't include the bit in Armageddon where Ding blundered a knight fork in a near-winning position. Then amazingly he clawed his way back to having an advantage despite being down an exchange. It's so unfortunate that he lost in the end - he got so close so many times.
@@wg0016 He's been playing the majority of this year's tournaments at a much more suboptimal time and as a result he struggled a lot, leading to people wondering why he's world number 3
@@dhruvyadav7715 Hikaru has historically been a better blitz and bullet player. The odds were in his favor and expecting him to comfortably win isn't unreasonable
This was like Hamilton vs Verstappen at Abu Dhabi (without the controversy)... they both probably deserved to win in the end. No matter the sport/game/event, when both opponents perform so admirably, it is the absolute best to watch!
Hikaru is a like a supercomputer. Calm, cold and calculated when in the thick of it. Dings hand shaking after the 8:43 mark shows the pressure. Meanwhile Hikaru keeps on calculating solutions.
I watched this whole match. It's the best example I've seen of Hikarus mastery of the lower time controls. Ding outplayed him probably 85% of the time. He was better out of the opening almost every game. And Hikaru still won. So he beat a top 5 classical player (and a pretty heckin good blitz/rapid player) on a not so good day. Wesley is great but I just think Hikaru will be too much. Only people I'd give even odds against Hikaru in these time formats are Magnus and Alireza.
Both players compete to top level. I dont understand people flaming Hikaru. He is a beast in chess, one that people that comment will never be. Lets stick to his chess skills while watching a chess game and discard whatever his personality might be
Is his personality really that bad tho? I don't understand why ppl hate him that much. I get that his body language can be annoying at times but it's not like he's personally attacking you or smth
Meanwhile he plays coffee chess on the street with normal players for no pay. And laughs it up and gives everyone a good time in their stream. I don’t see too many of these other gms doing public goodwill service like that.
Props to both players for bringing us this super intense and enjoyable match. I’m especially happy for Ding to still play at this insane level, and here’s hoping for more success in his career.
