just remap one command at a time, for ex remap the mirage blade as so you can shoot while doing melee attacks (LB for ex) and then you will get used to it, if you change all commands you will get heavily confused only do so step by step this way you can still do combos cause only one layout changed and it's easy to grasp
Is a normal thing. First you need a cool scheme, don't need to copy others, Smoke jump with the bumpers, one of the only ones that I know that do this, still he can play really good. Second, after finding a scheme that you think is good, you just need to play with it (don't is need to play every day, but is gonna be quicker this way). In no time you gonna see that your hands don't are in pain anymore. Even if you have some hand problems that make your hand be in pain, this gonna mitigate some of this pain, Yanoji for example has a problem like this, still plays a bunch of hours with no problem. Hope this help.
But trick isnt just better than jump on Vergil? I mean Ik that you can JC but with trick you also reset your time on air plus the instant mobility you get, so... what do you think about priorizing trick than jump?
It would work, but it might be jarring when you switch back to your other characters. I feel like there is a bit of delay with my bumpers over my face buttons so I'd rather it be on B/O. I don't see why it wouldn't work if you're efficient with his trick.
This was extremely helpful. I really appreciate that you took the time to explain your reasons to map the controller in the different ways you showed us.
First! I use lb for jump lt for lock on, separating movement and attack inputs to left hand and right hand respectively, rt for dt and rb for summon swords. Attack and trick default. Switch weapons is x and a
for dante yes but in vergil case no, with vergil you can shoot with mirage blades the same time you do melee attacks but you can't do it if it's the same finger that controls both melee attacks and mirage blades, remapping it feels more natural with RB for ex you can keep enemies afloat in the air while charging attacks with Y
Man i just wish that we don't have to hold and release for DT. I like using the left bumper for summoned swords just like in DMC4 but that really requires me to swap out weapon switch to DT because I like transforming mid combo.
The first alternate scheme is how I have my controls set. You can't get the maximum value out of summon swords, but it's probably the most comfortable layout. Also makes jump cancelling easier because your thumb rests on both attack and jump at the same time.
I had set it up exactly the same but there is one problem: Big nukes in SDT like judgement cut end requires both melee and trick action button to be pressed at the same time. How do you use them?
@@FeNniXX3 Tip of your thumb on attack, middle of your thumb on trick. It is awkward to make your thumb go sideways. Every control layout comes with pros and cons I guess.

The only things I ended up moving around multiple times were the different doppelganger speeds and this is just the one that stuck.
My control scheme for Vergil has a lot of defaults: move and camera, melee attack, summoned sword, doppelgänger, and trick action. I have jump on LB, SDT on LT, lock-on on RT, switch weapon (right) on RB, and switch weapon (left) on X (Dualshock). As a result, I don't use switch weapon (left) at all, and I don't use summoned swords nearly as much as I should, but I want to keep my control scheme somewhat consistent across all four characters.
Personally i use : - switch left weapons : square / X - mirrage blade : l1 / lb - doppel : l2 / lt This is for my level the most "optimal" for include "all" mechanics on my "gameplay"
Nero: Red Queen - R1 Bringer - R2 Breaker - Circle/RB Blue Rose - Square/LB Break away - D-Pad DT - Triangle Lock On - L1 Exceed - L2 For stripped-down characters like Nero, V and Trish, I've found that this works extremely well. Having a controller with back buttons is a godsend. Edit//Current Dante: Sword: R1 Gun: Square/RB Trick: Circle/LB Styles: D-Pad Lock On: L1 DT: Triangle
Honestly, other than Beowulf's divekick, do you NEED to JC? For the most part I've found that Vergil plays better on the ground than in the air, so unless it's a flying enemy, a tall enemy, or somebody I just knocked up with Storm Blades, I'm rarely in the air. Personally, I'm annoyed you can't unlink Doppel Summon and SDT. There's already a whole other SET of buttons for controlling the doppelganger, INCLUDING one that summons him, so I don't understand why SDT has to share.
I just got Vergil today and I’ve consistently picked up on doing at least 1 perfect JC. Trying to chain perfect JCs tho is impossible for me atm I agree that you don’t “have to” use JC, it’s definitely more of a cool “risk - reward” move. Risk in that it takes a bit of time devotion to grasp those Perfect Cuts, but it feels pretty rewarding pulling it off
@@C3ph_ JC is "Jump Cancel", not "Judgement Cut". Although perfect Judgement Cuts are also not typically not necessary for Vergil except in higher difficulties.
Tbh the only thing I changed was Mirrage Blades on Lb. Just got uses to it from dmc3. I really dont want to screw arounf with the controlls anymore even though holding down x for std is weird. Man I probably should revisit my controls but I just got done with my first vergil playthrough and dmd or bp will have to wait for a bit
I think that’s all I’m gonna change with him too honestly all his other buttons I’m Pretty comfy with and don’t mind where they are but being able to charge those blades with LB is definitely better then having to hold down X and attack with Y lol
Seems our Dante Layout is almost identical. Difference is: Distance -> X Melee -> Y Switch Distance -> A Switch Melee -> B Thus, I can switch the currently used weapontype without moving my thumb at all. With Vergil, I plan to opt for distance -> LT, as I did with Nero and V.
I like having DT on Square/X for all characters. It’s a nice universal change but does require some finger gymnastics for Dante. Still prefer that to any other control scheme and I like it for Vergil as well.
My control scheme on Xbox One. Melee Attack: Y Mirage Blade: LT Jump: A Trick Action: RT ( It works better with RB but using RT for lock-on hurts my fingers) Doppelganger (summon): LB Lock-on: RB Change Weapon (Right): B Change Weapon(Left) X This is how I started playing as Vergil on DMC 5 and it works well for me.
My way of thinking is that I need attack close to jump, and trick close to attack, to do the super moves. Attack on X trick on Y change weapon B, lt sdt, lb mirage blades, rt lock on, rb change weapons. Doppelganger i manage with dpad.
i use a ps4 controller on pc so pressing rb isn't an issue for me it's comfortable. plus i can easily slide my hand from Y to A so only thing i change is mirrage blades to RT, taunt to X, weapon right to LT and weapon left to back/select so i never press it by accident. it's similar to my nero setup from dmc4 with gun RT and taunt X
I like your control scheme mostly except I have DT on L2 rather than your R1 and my reason is the opposite to your playstyle. I like to go in and out of SDT with Vergil’s ‘quad S’ as it changes the properties of a few moves notably stinger and air stinger, or being able to do a normal let’s say Beowulf combo B but if timed right you can access the SDT versions without using any meter. I also like to abuse the fact that trick down becomes back + jump button while in SDT making backing away from certain attack’s easy or to create space for a taunt or a finisher plus i also use it to make certain combos easier by making trick down just a bit easier input without losing any SDT.
So having trick jump isnt that important cuz you can do all the move with trick so I put: Y-Melee B-Change weapon A-Jump X-The other weapon change RB-Lock On RT-Trick LB-Mirage Blade LT-DT What do you think?
It's interesting. And while JC is a big less important with trick combining them both leads to really cool results. You have the same JC problem as the default control scheme but if you're comfy with it then keep it
I tried your dante control scheme but cause im more used to the normal I got less s ranks then I normally do but other then that I could use some change so I might mix normal with some of the other control schemes ok also great videos man

Is there a significant downside to putting summoned swords on a shoulder button and then just playing with one weapon switch button, similarly to Dante? I feel like you would have time to double switch whenever you need to, but I'm not 100% certain.
