Black Sabbath was the birth of true Heavy Metal - the extraordinary story of lead guitarist Tony Iommi and his having to adapt to playing with self made prosthetic fingertips and down tuning the strings on his guitar - that ultimately generated the HEAVY METAL sound. My very first band and love them still.
BLACK SABBATH, "WAR PIGS". Iconic Band from Late 60's. From England Guitarest, Tony Iomi, Bassist, Geezer Butler, Drummer, Bill Ward, Vocals, Ozzy Osborne. This song is from the first album. Unfortunately the message that were in many songs from the 60's, and 70's. Apply to the deaf politians of the past and today. Other bands and songs regarding this event. The Who, "WE DON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN", Rolling Stones, "GIVE ME SHELTER". Buffalo Springfield, "FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH", CROSBY, STILLS, NASH, AND YOUNG, "OHIO". Nice Reaction.
I heard this song when it came out in 1970 and was going into the Navy during the Vietnam War! The video came just a few years ago! It is a timeless song and to me the greatest song ever by anyone. Whenever you listen to a Black Sabbath song you will notice several changes along the way, it is like a whole concert in each song!
Black Sabbath formed in 1968 originally as a blues rock band called The Polka Tulk Blues Band and later as Earth w/ Tony Iommi on guitars, Geezer Butler on bass, Bill Ward on drums and Ozzy Osbourne on lead vocals. Ozzy has said that one day they went to a movie theater and saw the Boris Karloff movie Black Sabbath and said, “Isn’t it weird that people pay money to get the __ scared out of them?” Later, Geezer Butler wrote the song “Black Sabbath” and they changed the name of the band to Black Sabbath in 1969 and titled their 1970 debut album as “Black Sabbath”, which musically went into a darker “doomy” vibe but very much still influenced heavily by the blues (The album was recorded in 12 hours). Later that year they released their 2nd album “Paranoid” which spawned some of the most classic well-known classic metal songs such as this song “War Pigs” (an anti war song), “Iron Man”, “Paranoid” and “Fairies wear Boots” (VERY bluesy song!) The original line up would play together until 1979 after the release of the “Never say Die” album and tour. Ozzy Osbourne was fired because of his heavy drug and alcohol abuse which would cause him to miss rehearsals and/or arrive late and as he would later say he just wasn’t into it anymore (the musical direction the band was on). The Ozzy era (1969-1979) was an amazing era that saw 8 studio albums, the first 6 being consecutively outstanding! (Black Sabbath, Paranoid, Master of Reality, Vol. 4, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Sabotage, Technical Ecstasy, Never Say Die) Ozzy’s vocals peaked w/ the 5th and 6th albums (“Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” and “Sabotage”). Though misunderstood by the public and often labeled as “Devil worshippers” most of their songs were about love and peace and social issues such as war, pollution and mental health.
This song is a timeless CLASSIC. Great guitar and drums,,,,fantastic lyrics. The message is clear,,,,,WAR SUCKS. Glad you like it,,,,💥💥💥👍😎 Yes,,,the song is older than the video.
I loved these and all the old rock when I was in my teens, they had been going a while then, but I had all there albums and deep purple thin lizzy rainbow, I stayed a rock fan all my life. You two are such good reactors as usual.
War Pigs was released in 1970 on their Parinoid album. This video although epic was created around 2008 as an independent creators interpretation overlayed with the song as the soundtrack.
You have just listened to one of the 'Pillars of Metal'. Along with Deep Purple & Led Zeppelin, they were known as the 'Unholy Trinity'. It all began in the late 60's & early 70's. The birth of 'Metal'. This is one of the first Vietnam War protest songs. For another one, please react to 'Deep Purple's 'Child In Time'. The live version in the TV studio.
There is another video of War Pigs being done live by Sabbath, it is much better than the official music video. It shows how the drummer just kills it, he is so good.
Sorry, but I think the purpose of the lyrics is to get us humans used to war and terror in the future. They were to contribute to people accepting themselves as slaves. They are a tool for spreading subconscious fear and then managing it. However, the lyrics of these works turned against their authors years later. They raise people's level of awareness and reveal their actual motivations. Darkness has already called for many of these performers. I would like to add that I love Black Sabbath, I listened to them from the beginning of the '70s
@@maciejzniebuszewa8077 no, everything about Black Sabbath is anti-establishment. Their anti-war stance was quite well known, and the lyrics tell a story of how terrible war is, but that in the end, the ones who love war are the ones who lose.

They are British, from Birmingham, England. The band consists of Geezer Butler on bass guitar, Tony Iommi on Lead guitar, Bill Ward drums and of course Ozzy Osborne on vocals. Sabbath along with Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple are considered by many to be the unholy trinity that started heavy metal
Black Sabbath is from Great Britain. England to be exact!! They are the ones who perfected this music... Way back in the day I saw them and the concert was amazing and breath taking!!!!!! Please make a note how Mr. Bill Ward the drummer is non STOP. When I saw them that is how they presented the show!!! You all mentioned the lyrics. This is Sabbath's war protest song... ON A SIDE note Tony the lead guitar man/ master is missing the finger tips of his right hand. Yet he can hit everyone of those notes... This band is among the very best on my opinion!!!!! What did you two think???????
Hi guys. Nice to hear your reaction. Black Sabbath was metal before there was metal. Ozzy who people only know from the tv show is no dummy. On the contrary he is a musical genius and legend to every generation. Metal caught fire in latter part of 1970s where Sabbath started to play this live in 1968 and put it on vinyl in there debut album in 1970
I love Black Sabbath - what I found amazing was that both Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath were born from destiny. In Black Sabbath's case - Tony and Ozzy went to school together (Tony being older) and one time Tony and Bill Ward (Drummer) were auditioning for singers but blew off Ozzy because Tony figured it was just a gag never knowing Ozzy for a singer until later Ozzy and Geezer (Guitarist at the time) came looking for Bill Ward to audition him for their band. They all gave it a go and in the first 5 min knew it was going to be special. I'll leave the Led Zeppelin story for one of their reactions. #Sweetleaf #TheWizard
Like so many other heavy metal bands in the 1970's Sabbath themes have always been dark and nihilistic, especially during the Ozzy Osbourne period. You might like Iron Man, Paranoid, and Master of Reality. Together with Deep Purple and Led Zepplin, they were one of the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal."

Glad you found Sabbath, such an iconic band
There's a lot of great anti war songs. Try Child In Time by Deep Purple, completely different, but I think you'll be amazed by another group that started heavy rock and metal. Oh, great observation, great reaction.
This was the soundtrack of my youth and I had completely no idea what it was about. It's refreshing to hear that you feel it's still relevant. PS - Yes, the song is much older than the video.
Definitely an anti war song that was not only referencing the Vietnam War which was raging at the time of the recording, but War in general. The members of the band were born in post war Birmingham, which was not a pleasant place. They grew up in the grim shadow of WWII and saw the effects it had on their families and country and it’s economy. It’s a classic. Can’t go wrong with any of Black Sabbaths first six albums.
1969, I think. War in Vietnam! ....but really, hasn't there always been a war somewhere? 😕 I could really go for more peace ✌ Thanks 😊 for great reaction!
Interesting fact. Tony, the guitarist, lost the tips of his fingers in an accident and had to have specialist made fingertips fitted to enable him to play the guitar. Just goes to show that you can accomplish anything when you have passion.
Really, there is a sulfur smell in this issue. It's Black Sabath style. And the words of a prophecy or a plan. But who paid attention more than 50 years ago? Now what are these "pigs of war" trying to do? I recommend "Child In Time" Deep Purple Concert, prophetic words, stunning rock music, or "Sympathy For The Devil" by Rolling Stones where you can clearly see hoof sign
The video is not official and is much newer than the song. I think the video is a distraction. The speeded up audio at the end was done by the producer, the band didn't even know about it until they heard the record.
I don't think there has ever been a time in humanity when there wasn't war somewhere. This will continue to be relevant until mankind learns from our past.
War pigs came out on Black Sabbath second album paranoid in 1970 . Let’s get into some Black Label Society first song suicide Messiah suicide Next band will be down first song bury me in smoke Have a blessed day
This song as many other ones during the decades of the 60's, 70's, with other many rock bands demanded Peace and Love in our home world, leaded by dirty politicians and Bankers, taking care of their own money, not interested in human beings, that's why they still create wars to dominate our minds, our will. Rock music in those years create deep messages to young minds to be prepared and to open our mind and eyes to what they were doing to humankind. Through the internet and mass media they try to "educate" or keep your brain COMFORTABLY NUMB..., just to be "obedient minds"... don't think, just obey. They control our minds and will with just a little machine... "the Cell phone... !!!Long life to Rock...!!!. A book is a Gym to our brain...
I started watching you two reaction to nightwish. You've started listening to some of all time favorite. Iron Maiden now Black Sabbath. This is my favorite Sabbath song. I've been in many clubs, Las Vegas, Phoenix Arizona, ext. Every time this song comes one. Everyone starts singing. React to Heaven and Hell Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio singing.
The band actually was concerned about the open anti-war sentiment (most notably due to the holocaust victims) because the timeline was WW2 (notice the blimp, propeller powered bombers and air raid sirens). Anyway..... The band chose to go with the military industrialists that capitalized on the war. That's why the signs say "work" as opposed to "fight".
Would you please react to Austin Brown and Rob Lundquist (from Home Free) singing opera? "Two Country Singers Try Singing Opera". They do "Nessun Dorma". I think you might be surprised.
Birmingham, England's finest metal band. Tony Iomie, geezer butler, ozzy Osborne. Cherished and loved all over the world.

Yes the Video was made years after the song was released
Definitely an anti war song that was not only referencing the Vietnam War which was raging at the time of the recording, but War in general. The members of the band were born in post war Birmingham, which was not a pleasant place. They grew up in the grim shadow of WWII and saw the effects it had on their families and country and it’s economy. It’s a classic. Can’t go wrong with any of Black Sabbaths first six albums.
The great Ozzy Osborne is the lead singer and I am unsure who the drummer is but he goes bananas in this song
Bill Ward - along with Geezer Butler (bassist) one of the (if not THE) funkiest and heaviest rhythm sections in rock.
Someone else may have mentioned that this actually a video done by a fan of Black Sabbath.
This is The LORD'S last warning to ALL the War Pigs, in every country! They have no excuse! And what mercy they have shown, THAT, they shall recieve.
Now you know why so many people wear BLACK SABBATH SHIRTS!!! ❤
The video is not official and is much newer than the song. I think the video is a distraction. The speeded up audio at the end was done by the producer, the band didn't even know about it until they heard the record.
You two are pretty cool.
Real heavy guitars, without any other dubs, only Marshall amplifiers!!!!!!!!!. That's all for real heavy metal.
I don't think there has ever been a time in humanity when there wasn't war somewhere. This will continue to be relevant until mankind learns from our past.
War pigs came out on Black Sabbath second album paranoid in 1970 . Let’s get into some Black Label Society first song suicide Messiah suicide Next band will be down first song bury me in smoke Have a blessed day
I found what I was looking for.
The live 1970 version performed in Paris is much, much better, please check it out when you get a chance
Live version, Paris 1970 is the video you need to see. Two words "Bill Ward" 🙂
The quintisential anti-war song.
Cardinal sin never stop on solos
A song that will never get old because politicians will ALWAYS be criminals.
69 here, just appreciating War Pigs .
Drums
There is a live version from 1970
The song is from 1969 or 70.
Watch live version from 70 in Paris on u tube
I have spotted Wally ! 😁
Glad you liked it 👍 l do too 👍
Check out 1970 in Paris. Get a better feel of the song.
Great Video of a Classic song!
Musically I prefer Sabbath with Dio, but I agree, the lyrics are so powerful!
The video by the way has nothing to do with the song. Back in 1970, there were no music videos.
🔥🔥🔥
Would you please react to Austin Brown and Rob Lundquist (from Home Free) singing opera? "Two Country Singers Try Singing Opera". They do "Nessun Dorma". I think you might be surprised.
I can’t believe you paused and restarted in the middle of one of the best lyrics in rock.
Welcome to the club. Try Hand of Doom
There's nobody like Ozzy Osbourne. React to his song Crazy Train
