You CAN walk from US to Russia! The Diomedes, in the Bering Straight Alaska is rarely talked about.

You probably know that Alaska and Russia are relatively close - with just the Bering Sea between them, they’re only about 55 miles apart.
But there’s an American town that is much closer, just a couple miles from Russia. And In winter, they can actually walk there, but they don’t… I don’t think.
Diomede is an American town of about 100 people on a small island in the Bering Sea called Little Diomede Island.
It is one of the two Diomede Islands that sit about halfway between mainland Alaska and mainland Russia.
The western island - Big Diomede - is Russian. The eastern island - Little Diomede - is American. They are 2.5 miles apart. The only thing between them is water. In winter, the notoriously cold water freezes up, creating a 2.5 mile ice bridge that’s walkable. (I’m told it takes about a half hour). So technically you CAN walk from the US to Russia.
If you do, you also instantaneously step into the future bc Big Diomede is 21 hours ahead of Little Diomede. The international date line falls right smack between them so you can literally step a whole day ahead.
I like finding interesting things on maps. Hope you do too.

My Mom grew up in Providence, Chukotka, since her father was in charge of the sea port construction in 1950’s. She told me that the indigenous people, like chukcha, evenks, hunts, mansi, and others, related to escimos, did indeed walk across the Bering Stream and they were allowed to cross what for others was a USSR-USA border.
I like that they respected their ancestral homeland over dipshit political policies.
Chukchi are not so much related to Inuit/eskimos/siberian Yupik, at least not linguistically, they just intermarry often.
Hanty and Mansi live very far away from Chukotka, in West Siberia, that is like 6000 km away. Evenks are closer, but mostly found in East Siberia rather than Chukotka
They still are allowed to do that.
Those native and indigenous peoples you listed are also related to the Native Americans and Inuits of Canada, Greenland, and the US. There are also Chuckhi peoples in Siberia proper, and all of these people are related to the large Turkic group.

That expedition across the ice is extremely dangerous, it's not frozen enough to withstand the currents so ice breaks into many ice floats and you have to walk/jump from one to the next one basically. And have to walk mostly north to keep up with the currents and the direction currents will be displacing towards.
