this isn't deep tissue. Deep pressure maybe but this isn't deep tissue. There is a difference between deep pressure and deep tissue. I wish more people would be educated in the difference besides perpetuating this very common misconception that they are the same.
The difference is Deep Tissue focus on a muscle or area of the body at one time. You go slowly into the muscle to the clients level 8 of discomfort and stay at that pressure for the duration of the massage and you only go deeper if the muscle allows and if the client tells you, you it has released and you can go deeper. My instructor in school took a student a day and showed us how to do it for each type of area. For me, it was the IT band, and for my husband, she did his right pectoral muscle. I only recommend this technique as a last resort if a muscle is chronic. Deep pressure you can do anywhere on the body as necessary or if the patient prefers the pressure. I'm a massage therapist in a chiro office, and many of my patients prefer deep pressure and I do a lot of TP and Myofascial work. I also always correct the patient who asks for deep tissue. Deep tissue session also isn't recommended to do for hr sessions. It should last for no longer than 30 to 45 minutes.
