Thanks for the informative video. I'm new to climbing and have become practically obsessed with watching the recent comps. I'm so psyched for the Olympics. I love all the climbers. They're all so amazing!
You’re welcome! And welcome to the climbing community 😀 How’s your climbing journey going so far? And I agree, it’s so fun to watch the IFSC comps and the Olympics are going to be amazing! It keeps me on the edge of my seat and gets me inspired for what’s possible in my own climbing too 👍🏻👍🏻
@@augustclimbing I started top rope at a small local gym last November with the goal of learning enough to go outdoor climbing with my son who lives in Nevada. It quickly became an obsession. At my little gym I have yet to send a 5.9. But at a bigger more commercial gym I've done 5.10 - I know that sounds so babyish, but just a couple months ago I was struggling to do a 5.8 and now I can consistently send them. So one must accept the small victories. It's funny how addicting climbing is, at least for me. I'm either at the gym, watching videos of climbing or planning my next session. My kids think I've lost my mind!
@@DAJ2000 that is so great! You are definitely on to something with celebrating the small victories. I’ve found that to be helpful in my own climbing. And it sounds like you are progressing quite well 👍🏻👍🏻 That’ll be exciting to go outdoor climbing with your son. And climbing is definitely addicting (in a good way) so I know what you mean! Do you do any bouldering as well?
@@augustclimbing I topped my 5.9 yesterday! I had just about given up on it to be honest. I work with a coach and he did the climb and brushed the top pocket (all of them actually). But it was that top pocket that was killing me. And I made it the very next try! I was so psyched that I went and tore a flapper on an easy boulder. (I'm not brave on boulders and I tear my hands up more on them but I often try a few after I finish a rope session.)
@@DAJ2000 congratulations!! 🎉 It’s a great thing that you stuck with it. Sometimes a good brush can go a long way to making a climb feel possible! I’ve mostly been bouldering recently, but I enjoy a route climb from time to time 😃 Keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻
that was awesome! love how you introduce the climbers! although i have to say watching this high stakes competitions always makes my heart race, it is so stressful because i want to cheer for everyone haha oh well, still excited to watch the olympics! :D
Thans a bunch, Thomas! I enjoyed "getting to know" these climbers a little better as I was putting the video together. And I agree with you, it does make my heart rate rise too! Especially on the lead wall where there is only 1 attempt, and you don't want your favorite competitors to fall too soon! I guess having something invested emotionally is what makes it exciting to watch though 😀 Can't wait for the Olympics!!
Thanks for the rundown! I've been wondering how things would shake out after Budapest. Personally, I am delighted to hear that Alex Megos has made it in spite of his recent finger pulley injury.
Hey, Adam! You are very welcome. Yeah, I was really glad to see Megos qualify too... he's a fun competitor to watch and someone I'll definitely be cheering for (after Team USA of course 😉) So glad to read your comment as always 👍🏻👍🏻
Great rundown! I think it’s interesting how big rock climbing is in Japan and how dominant they’ve been. However there’s not much interest in speed climbing and have no speed athletes qualified.
Hi, Micah! I'm glad you enjoyed the rundown. Yeah, that's a great observation about Japan's lack of speed climbing athletes at the Olympics. And then you have a nation like Indonesia who qualified 4 speed climbing athletes but no one for boulder & lead. I'm excited to watch both events at the Olympics this year and I'm glad they are separate this time around! I appreciate your comment 👍🏻👍🏻
