Interesting, the afterlife the protagonist goes to is basically the Mormon concept of Hell where it's not pitchforks and lava pits, but forever being unable to continue progressing, being literally damned. Except in the Mormon concept, people who didn't have the opportunity to learn in life can do so after death, and it's only if someone is so proud that they knowingly reject God while knowing fully that they're lying that they're cast into darkness. This protagonist would've been able to learn and continue on his journey of progression. Good creepypasta. I enjoy the more quiet interview with a supernatural being type stories more than "I looked at my Gameboy, and Mario's eyes were red, and he looked right at me, then he came out of my screen and chased me through my house," trying to be your average horror movie monster chase.

    • @PannkakaMedSylt

well he wasn't cast into darkness, he was unmade, ceased to exist, a lot less scary tbh.
Beeing cast into nothingness while you consciously exist is a fate that almost seems worse then hell.
But just ceasing to existing, nothingness, no thoughts, no pain, no sorrow, no regret, no happyness just nothing, I find that quite comforting feeling tbh, I'm fine with stopping to exist, but then against, what this "GOD" in the story did, wasnt what he belived in, it was a sense of torture, since if you belive in "NOTHING" then you wouldnt even wake up to talk about it with "GOD" you would just stop existing after death, what that "GOD" did broke that, and thus existential dread set in, so seems unfair to me if he tries to please everyones beliefs.

After listening to this story and then reading through the comments, I've managed to gather my thoughts on this story. This God is petty. He didn't give the main character "nothing," he gave the main character sheer terror and a long drop. He doesn't care what you believe in as long as some way, somehow it all comes back to him. If God were truly benevolent, selfless and just, he would not care what you believed in at all, but what you did with your time on Earth regardless of him. Not all religious practices are better than none at all. Some hurt people, just for their own sake. That's not good.
If this God were good, he would ask the main character what he wanted after life and weigh it against what he deserved, based on the life he lived.

    • @quartzskull8772

@Chance Sassy Well said. This is one of my biggest criticisms with how certain religions portray God. Are we really to believe he's some wrathful, self-absorbed guy who demands that we understand his grand plan for humanity, even with our primitive brains that he apparently designed for us? I'm open to the possibility of a god, but I'm very skeptical of our ability to understand that god. It's only natural for humans to want to understand, though.

If there is such thing as something after death, then why can't we start believing or not believing in whatever there is out there after we die? Why is death the turning point? Why was it decided that its before death or never? Also, how are we to enjoy an afterlife of pleasure when we know for a fact that others are experiencing one of pain? "Because they deserved it"? somni I appreciate how you like to narrate stories with religious themes! as a christian myself, I like to see how people deal with religion and existential horror through hypothetical fiction. granted, this one was a little preachy and condescending, but it makes for good conversation. and it's just nice that you've cultivated a space where religion can bend and stretch without people getting super uppity about it. :-)

I'm agnostic apatheist, but I do agree, it was a little condescending, but the concept of the story and setting isn't unpleasant. Just wish they played it out slightly differently or adjusted the character personalities and stuff slightly. Feels a bit like someone salty at atheism as a whole, and I'm not atheist but like, calm it please, that's a bit much?
I think the concept of God having different paradises for different belief systems is very intriguing though. Hadn't thought much about it beforehand.
Also def agree that it's nice that, for the most part, these comment sections won't be too uppity, with only a few stragglers who pop into random comment threads to spam about Jesus, which is a bit odd to me. I mean, not because of the Jesus thing, but because it's hella off topic and kinda just insulting other people because they don't follow your beliefs. That shit's kinda weird.

I feel like this story needs a bit of a rewrite. Much respect to the author, of course, the story itself is very well written and genuinely sets up an interesting scenario. I just feel they croak a bit at the end when God is trying to explain himself. Keep in mind that I'm religious and so there is a potential bias in what I'm going to detail, but I feel as though a better rendition of the ending would go as follows. Starting from when Ean calls god unfair.
"Unfair?" He said it had an odd mixture of blank and surprise.
"Let me tell you what would be unfair, throwing you in a hell you don't belong in, or allowing you to pass into heaven you don't deserve to be in. "They", the people who believed, wanted to be there. Their lives cascaded into what ultimately became my decision. And, you know why that is? They trusted me. They let me into their lives."
He pulled me out of the well and, with much force, turned me around to face him.
"Ean, you could've sat down by a dammed tree, meditated, and had a spiritual experience, and I would've let you in. You would've been on a roster to a plain of like-minded individuals. In truth, you could've created your own heaven there, in a community that embraced me. You didn't even need to believe in "GOD" you just had to believe in something bigger, something spiritual. Ean, I have placed men, who have lost their faith, into heaven. Why do you think that is? because at some point they had a spark that knew me. You've noticed the nametag, correct? It is blank to you. For them, it was either smeared or in a name they didn't recognize. It was only in rare cases where it was like you, and in those cases, there was one thing in common. They had completely rejected me. They did not care if it was for reason or tragedy. They had rejected me completely, and yet, embraced the world I had created as above my existence. Not just that though, they had thought that they were above even I. They had thrown themselves out of my reality, willingly. And much like you, their words rejected their thoughts and actions."
At this point he had turned me back to face the well, I grabbed, pulling at bricks and vines and plunging my fingers into dirt and grime just to get a grip. To desperately pull myself up. from this madness.
    "Willingly!? You're pushing me in!"
It was at that point he asked a simple question, one which chilled me to the core.
    "Am I?"
As soon as he asked, the weight on my back vanished, and, instead, was replaced with a desire to pull myself forward. I had not been grasping at vines to push up, instead, I had been pulling myself down, deeper into the well. In fact, the only force against me was one pulling me up, desperately bringing me back to existence to push just a few more words in, trying to save me. But I was rejecting it, it was a compulsion, my own heart pulling me down as God desperately wanted to pull me back up. Memories, or what accounted for them given where I was, flashed forth. It showed me that the faceless abominations didn't even exist. they were machinations, of... something. Could it have been denial? Their squeeze was nothing more than my own rejection to turn away and soon I began to realize what was happening. God had simply been leading the way for me, accepting my rejection.
"I know you'd like to think that it would have saved you a lot of heartaches if I showed myself to humanity. Unfortunately, humans don't operate in such a manner. You would have served me not as a God to his flock, but rather, as a king to his peasantry. A relationship based on fear and not on trust. It's not something I wanted for you. Of course, I've shown myself many times, you know them as prophets, or since we are talking of you, supposed "madmen". These prophets were shrowded intentionally, not by mistake, but by design. It is to protect the very thing I find you precious about you. Your will. My ultimate gift to you to choose your own destiny, good or bad. It is why I made all the heavens in the world because rejecting just one would have violated someone's will to embrace me. In truth, I use hell sparingly. I'm not the fire and brimstone type. Many who sin against me are much like you, throwing themselves out of my grace. However, I do use it on special occasions, to punish those for not only rejecting my glory but also for hurting others irrevocably."
    "P-please.." I begged
"I don't want to go down there, please. Help me."
"Oh Ean, my wayward son," he stated as he walked towards the door.
"I've tried my best, but it seems you've made up your mind. Your will wants this, truly, a byproduct of your life's certainty. You only reject it, deny it, because you are inherently part of me in a way. Think of it as a paternal attraction. It's the rules of chess rejecting that you have put the king in check. I only allow you to see the truth of your denial, to reject your will, out of compassion and technicality. You are, by your own admission, not my child anymore, and thus, the privilege of free will is not afforded to you. I could, well and truly, pull you back right now, safe and sound, but you would reject it and find some other way to escape me."
I screamed, I begged, I cried, but as he approached the door I could feel the force pulling me back begin to wain. I pulled harder on the brick and dirt, almost free from him, free. So free, free from consequence, free from smoking, free from judgment. I would be as though I was never there, a time before I was conceived. It was comforting. He was right, I did want this, but I also didn't. As he closed the door, and as I fell into freefall, I could hear him say something.
"I lament that this well is used as often as it is. Know, my once spawn, I tried, I really did."
I fell, tears in my eyes, there was just barely enough time for regret.
And cut. The rest of the story can go as follows. I just felt that God's argument in the original text didn't sit well with me. Again, much respect for the author as they really put a lot of vividness in this story.

Yea, as a believer the ending really disappointed me.
The author made a fun concept for his story, but his main 2 characters kinda blow if I'm being honest.
The protagonist sounds like a spoiled brat and God isn't very convincing in his explanations.

He blames a 29 year old for not understanding his utter lack of direct interaction, and gets upset about it... When he has all eternity and all power. And then he tries to talk about how children can imagine him so why not an adult? Absolutely ridiculous, but it is just a story of course.
And it is unfair... Because once he does decide to actually allow someone the information that enables founded belief, he chooses not to allow that very belief. The only name in the Bible (which is not the only God represented of course) that has ever made sense is one of the ones he gives himself, Jealous.

You are doing the same, we dont understand how the universe was first created so your explanation is a magic superpowerful guy in the sky.
Also, the more we learn the more we realize that is not just a magical coincidence that makes life in earth possible, life in many other forms that are not human is possible in many places we have seen in the universe, and we sure have a lot more to learn and explore!
We arent some special superior to other life forms things that are here for a bigger more purpose, we just are another creature, and like many other before us we will live and then be extinct.

@@s-101gray2 the universe is unfathomably enormous. There are an estimated 100 billion stars in our galaxy alone, and somewhere around 300 billion galaxies in the observable universe. You wonder how Earth has made it this long without a catastrophic event? It hasn't. The planet has experienced a good number of mass extinctions, including one big one caused by an asteroid impact. Pretty much all of the explored universe is hostile to life as we know it.
Your "point" that a creator of the universe is necessary, and also requires a creator demonstrates the flaw in requiring a creator in the first place. "It's too complex for me to understand, therefore creator did it" isn't a logical and sound conclusion to make. All indications of nature tell us that at best, a creator who is totally indifferent might exist, but more likely, no creator is necessary in the first place (since there's no proof of such anyway).
As for your "consciousness" thing, that's not evidence for anything beyond "humans are capable of consciousness, and do acquire it. It's intrinsic to the species", similar to how flight is intrinsic to eagles. Eagles can fly without any additional gadgets. Are they therefore, endowed by a divine being? Or are they just eagles?

Nope. God is an all loving all powerful being that should be glorified by all of his creation. He loved us so much that he came in the form of a man that he could die for our sins. His death paid the wages of our sins we so deserved which is the lake of fire forever. He gave us a way out to be with him in Heaven forever. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved (Roman's 10:9).
God is Love, He did all that for us so we could be with him forever. We just need to repent of this sinful lifestyle and live for Him everyday. Trust in Jesus and have faith in Him everyday. Amen
