The Allman Brothers Band performs "I Walk On Gilded Splinters" on December 3, 2011 at the Orpheum Theater in Boston, MA. Brought to you by Less Than Face Productions.
Thanks"LessThanFace Productions" for sharing all these Allman Brothers takes through UA-cam. For me, they are the best blues-rock band ever, and from the first period with Duane "skydog" Allman 68 - 71 up through the times, they have been composed of good songwriters and musicians - especially guitarists.
Since Duane,s Tragic death in 71 when I was 18, I have been a collector of music, interviews, and documentary stuff, so thanks to Filmore East for arranging the concert where the double album was made because it was the hearing of it that started my interest.
glad you enjoyed it!
Derick is on another planet!! Master of his craft and makes it look so effortless! It's just amazing, simply f---ing amazing!!!!!!
Only the coolest of the cool know and love Dr. John's music. So excited to find my favorite band playing tribute to one of Dr. John's best songs. In all my days I never imagined this. Thank you for posting.
Some people think they jive me
But I know they must be crazy
Don't see dey misfortune
Guess, they just too lazy
J'suis the Grand Zombie
My yellow belt of choison
Ain't afraid of no tom cat
Fill my brains with poison
Walk through the fire
Fly through the smoke
See my enemy
At the end of dey rope
Walk on pins and needles
See what they can do
Walk on gilded splinters
With the king of the Zulu
Kon kon, the kiddy kon kon
Walk on gilded splinters
Kon kon, the kiddy kon kon
Walk on gilded splinters
'Ti Alberta
Ti Alberta
('Ti Alberta)
Roll outta my coffin
Drink poison in my chalice
Pride begins to fade
And y'all feel my malice
Put gris gris on your doorstep
Soon you'll be in the gutter
I can melt your heart like butter
A-a-and I can make you stutter
Kon kon, the kiddy kon kon
Walk on gilded splinters
Kon kon, the kiddy kon kon
Walk on gilded splinters
'Ti Alberta
I Walk On Glided Splinters Southern Rock style.Derek and Warren are great on the slide. The Sky Dog is smiling from heaven. I also love Humble Pie's version on the Rockin the Fillmore Album.
Classic Bob Humble Pie's version will always be my favourite, if only because it was the first time I heard it, but the Allman Brothers can truly bring it.
Richard Herbert Agreed. Humble Pie Rockin the Fillmore is one of my all-time great live albums along with ABB live at the Fillmore East. Peace brother aka Classic Bob
not all dogs go to heaven. neither did Robert Johnson....;)
we will never know until we pass on to the great beyond. Keep rocking
Classic Bob: You are a rare bird that remembers Humble Pie's version.
Timing out out at a mere 23 min. and 28 seconds, this was indeed an excersise in self indulgence, but it was also @ Fillmore East, so nobody cared.
It was the 70's, the DECADE of self-indulgence.
The Frampton/Marriott guitar tandem is at a peak on this one, complimented very well by the rhythm section of Ridley/Shirley.
Of all the American rock songs in the world available for a British band to cover, I've always wondered why they chose this one.
Harmony vocals from Warren and percussionist are the absolute job here. Testimony to what a great song this is.
Peut-être la meilleure version de ce morceau, les solos de Derek et Warren sont stratosphériques. Seulement 47k vues... Et six connards pour mettre un pouce en bas, comprends pas.
Frickin' slide is awesome!
Don’t forget the Humble Pie version 👍
Slide Heaven
Derek Trucks is awesome. Great post. Thanks for posting
Love the Johnny Jenkins and Duane version and this one. Only the ABB can do this song justice
Damn right!❤
I seen Dr. John do the Gris Gris album in 1969 in Toronto Canada's first Rock festival :-) Peace
great quality! thanks! Tedeschi Trucks Band just started doing this tune and it is GRRRRRREAT!
Oh hell to the yes!
bout time i found a good ABB version of this; love the work, thanks
Hey, you are fairly unique being an ABB fan these day but you are not the only one, thank goodness, there is still hope for the mankind :-)
Thx a lot for this Great Show. Sady there are a few Tracks missing.
Hot Lanta, One Way Out, Melissa, Gamblers Roll and Sailin cross the Devil Sea
The Johnny Jenkins version is the drum sample from Beck - Loser. mind = blown
I was at this show
Fabulous version of this great song, apart from the good doctor, have only heard humble pies' version before
Derek trucks , raw and intense ahhh
no.1 slider player! Imo and Warren is right up there too.
Damn I believe Dereck Trucks could give Duane a run for his money. He is definitely a master of the slide guitar.
The combination makes them sound like Deep Purple
Humble Pie's is THE version
Butch Trucks, et maintenant Greg Allman, bouhhhh :(
"Maintenant" = " Now" ~~~ I took French in high-school** Lol !!
Does anyone know if there is an album with this on?
dafunkfiend Duane Allman played on Johnny Jenkins version of this song. It is on Jenkin's album "TonTon Macoute" and "Duane Allman - an Anthology Volume II"
Jim Dorman Thanks for responding to my question, however, I already have that amazing album (Ton Ton Macoute) I was specifically after a recording of this track with Trucks playing.....I'll keep looking!
dafunkfiend This on Allman Brothers Band. Instant live @ Fox Theatre Atlanta Ga. 2004 aka Classic Bob
Allman brothers live at jazz fest 2007 has it
Wondering why Derek swapped out guitars at the end of the song?
Me too...Haha...Maybe the strings have broken...
Preparing 4 the next tune, thus the guitars switch
Who's the bass guitar player?
Oteil Burbridge .. Kofi's brother. One of the BEST around! RIP~ Kofi Burbridge~~~~
Y’all gotta STOP with this Southern Rock BULLSHIT now, Rock & Roll was born in and is THE SOUTH! You don’t ever hear anyone saying Northern or Yankee Rock do you? Damn.
Sour grapes
JB > Warren
