This was recorded when I was 9 years old. I didn't hear it until I was about 59 years old. That doesn't matter. This is eternal. When you listen to this, time is immaterial.
If you don't think that the ways of VooDoo are really real, if you don't think that gris gris is a real thing maybe you oughta listen to this by yourself with all the lights off. It's real, allright.
I'm a native New Orleanian stuck in god-awful, small town TX and tomorrow's Mardi Gras, so I'm drinking a lot of beers and getting my fix of NOLA music. Catch a lot of beads, eat a lot of food, do a lot of dancing, and BE SAFE tomorrow everyone! Happy Mardi Gras y'all!
my favorite doctor. RIP, Dr.
A true eternal classic!
Lucky enough to see him at the michigan state fair ..and iggy and the stooges ...and johny winters ..!
RIP - King of Voodoo Soul...
A haunted song !
RIP to the great Doctor!
Dr. John influenced Humble Pie, who covered this song . Also Emerson, Lake, And Palmer named "Brain Salad Surgey" after Dr. John's lyric from another one of his songs.
Friend of Coco Robichaux here. Also I was the 1st recipient of the Dr John Night Tripper of the Year Award 1969. As far as I know I was also the last. School just ended for the summer and so we threw a bash. Me mates thought it was funny with the awards and all, I didn't mind. It actually was quite appropriate for me at that time. Funny Phillip wasn't too happy with his though.
Blessed is Dr. John. Blessed be to God.
Marsha Hunt, and Humble Pie have me here...
1968. Dr John. RIP 2019.
best song in the world.
Mac Rebenack aka Dr. John. Great song. Cheers!
Night tripping indeed! A-A-A I can make you stutter 🎶 Laissez les bon temps rouler
Saw the Doctor perform live several times in the late 1960's. Fantastic show. He can make you st-stut-stutter. Great music. Original lyrics. The little Doctor walks with the Zulus, now.
I heard this song as a child, on the album Ann Arbor Blues & Jazz Festival (1972) Anyway, it was great. This song stayed in my memory for many decades and I looked it and re-lived the original fascination with it. The live version on that album is better in my opinion.
Little Fires Everywhere brought me here 🤗
