- Lonestar Grillz Pellet Grill vs Yoder YS640 in a Biscuit Test
This is the first of my comparison video series for these two grills
Yoder YS640 Pellet Grill vs Lone Star Grillz 20x36 Pellet Grill
In this video we put them to the test Cooking Biscuits. - Навчання та стиль
Hey Joe! Terry here. Always enjoy your videos. Love the challenge idea. Getting me excited and pumped up for fall smoking season (and deer season of course)
Oh yeah smoked deer would be good. I smoked some elk Tenderloin on the Lonestar tonight
Great review……I can’t wait for my lonestargrillz to get here…..I hope you enjoy both of these pits and many cooks on both!
Nice job Joe! That LSG is a beast brother! Mine should arrive very soon and I can't wait to get that pit cranked up! Thanks for sharing!
Enjoy it when it gets there
This was a great idea. A very scientific approach.
Looking at the results of the biscuits, I would have to say LSG for the win. Way more evenly cooked from what I could see
Hope you get yours soon
Good testing!!!
Lookin good brutha...lookin forward to more of your comparisons 😁. I'm still on the fence for LSG pellet!
Coming soon!
Thanks for the post! Would love to see how quickly each smoker gets up to 250 starting cold, how well they can hold that temperature for 30 min (looking at the Fireboard charts), then how quickly they can go to 325, and how well they can hold that temp for 30 min, etc…
Good ideas!
Good video Joe!
Honestly this one kind of got away from me I will have to plan the next one out a little bit more
Which machine you like better for meat?
Did you cook on 2nd shelf? To see how is cooking?
Keep making them that lsg pellet smoker looks amazing
Thank you
did the LSG have a smokier taste? They say the way it is programmed is supposed to lend itself to produce a deeper smoke taste.
your thoughts?
I totally agree
Good video. Looks like the Lone Star takes this one.
I noticed a good amount of ash blowing around when you removed the biscuits from the Lone Star. There’s also an accumulation of ash inside the cooking chamber, mainly on the right. Is that normal or is the defuser plate not seated correctly?
normal
it produces way too much dirty smoke, its normal. could be the brand of pellets. sold mine, was very disappointed in the food coming off of it.
@@davidstiver2304Sold a LS pellet or Yoder?
@@1230mkelly lone star grill
Always love biscuit tests. I have noticed on my YS640S a bit more heat over that bottom grate. On to some meat!!!
I have noticed the same thing
Top shelf on the 640 always holds about 25* cooler than the bottom shelf .
@@rodlesina2165 I've got a brisket going right now on the top shelf. It is staying within about 10 degrees of the pit temp. Pit running 225. Probe on the top shelf running 230-235. So the bottom shelf maybe runs hotter than the pit temp?
Man, that Lonestar was putting out more smoke for sure. Joe, it is certainly classy to try and speak highly of both cookers, but you're going to have to share your true opinion and verdict sooner or later!
I will have to do many more cooks before I form my final opinion
@@SouthernCoastalCookingTM well, let's get to it Joe!!!
I thought the whole purpose of the biscuit test is to see the BOTTOM of the biscuits being baked, to see the areas that are hotter than others (hot spots) within the smoker...
Is the Yoder the one with the Fireboard (YS640S) or the earlier unit with the older controller? It looks like the older unit.
I have the FireBoard on the Yoder
It’s an older unit but is converted to the new controller
@@SouthernCoastalCookingTM Okay, thanks.
The newer Yoder to LSG would be the better test taker for sure.
Looks like to me the best was the Lone star grill
Those biscuits on the LSG looked way better than the ones on the Yoder. That's crazy how even it was cooking, so would it be better for any meat you put on there?
Time will tell through many cooks I guess
Looking forward to a low and slow brisket video
Oh yeah me too
Does the LSG go through more pellets than the Yoder?
Yep. The Yoder Pizza 🍕 accessory has me sold.
They both cook differently, the Yoder controller does not reflect the pit temperature like the fireboard. Since this was not supposed to be a test of which smoker cooks faster, this is a useless test. Also on the Yoder, how the smoker works is also dependent on how you have the damper set, from what I can see the Lonestar has none. You were looking for hot spots and didn't prove anything. When I got my Yoder I cooked 3lbs of bacon and 36 Gran biscuits with my top shelf in, and I was able determine where my hotspots were.
The Yoder now has a FireBoard controller

When you doing head to head meat tests?
That will have to come next
Your Yoder is an older model. Do you know if Yoder has made any changes in their smoker?
By the way, where was the sausage gravy? Have smoked biscuits with smoked sausage gravy and invite the neighbors over and get their opinion.
Mine is updated to be just like the new ones. I will do a video on that
don't really have any videos on the lsg, just curious if you didn't like it. I had one and sold it. was very disappointed in it, produces WAY too much dirty smoke.
Really?! Everyone is touting how the LSG pellet gets the meat a darker smoke like an offset that other pellet smokers. I always wondered if they are achieving this by just pushing a dirtier smoke out. Im tempted to go Yoder...
everyone is different in regards to the flavor profile they want. I have heard the Pitts and spits and yoder do produce better results because they burn cleaner/ not putting so much dirty smoke out. if I buy another smoker, its def a charcoal gravity fed smoker. I've been told if your used to charcoal and wood, you won't like a pellet smoker. don't buy that bs crap that a pellet smoker can come close to an offset. its bogus crap.
@@guitaristguy20
I went to Recteq pellet grill and never turned back.
Good grills
Looks like the LSG cooked the biscuits quicker and more evenly. The LSG looks like a tank. Can't wait to see how it does cooking some meat. Great video
oh it cooks them up nice
Man just kinda dawned on me. I bet it's rough being your neighbors. Always smelling these smokers and grills but never the food.
Oh they get plenty of food trust me
What's the point of this test ? You moved them all off and mixed them all up. How can you tell or show us where the hot spots are ? Dumb !
Well that was a dumpster fire biscuit test.
Not a good biscuit test, need to show all the bottoms to compare even temp through each cooker. I know my yoder had hot spots for sure you must have picked the one on a hot spot! LOL
I see you say it "had" hot spots. Did you get rid of the Yoder?
