  • I finally put a 4-hour work day to the test because as a freelancer of 6 years AND as someone who works from home I have allowed myself to attach my value and worth to time spent sitting at my laptop. And it has to stop.

    4 hours focused session is more than enough for a day!

      I agree! How much focused work time do you get a day?

      Deya, for now, I guess it's 4-5 hours max.. what about you on an average?

    I felt the part about feeling guilty if you don't work 40 hours soooo much. The employee mindset is real.. I have been working 4 hours a day for almost a year now, and I still catch myself feeling guilty / ungrateful / lazy / privileged or a "bad freelancer" because i don't use my full 'capacity'. And even complaining about feeling this guilt feels forbidden 😂 Amazing to hear your thoughts on this, honestly!!

      GOOD for you, Maya! 4 hours a day is a testament to how productive/efficient you truly are. That's an incredible achievement. I also still get caught in the 40-hour-productivity mindset a lot but honestly, whatever is sustainable and feels good to you is the right answer for YOU and that's all that matters at the end of the day. :)

    I LOVE this video and the soft entrepreneurship video. Thank you for making it.
    This is such a unique perspective that is so needed.
    The hustle/grind is not my goal but so much of the entrepreneur content is about optimizing for money at any cost.
    I’d love a follow up video of a 6 hour workday if that feels like something you’d want to do.

    The guilt that youre talking about is so true and I relate to it so muchhh, I never feel like Ive done enough as a freelancer, like even if i work 8hours!
    This is an interesting thing to try and change that belief in me!
    Thanks for putting this up deya!

    I didn't finish yet the video, but I just want to say I am so glad I found your channel, I feel we need more content like this, it would help us all with the guilty feeling we have when we don't work "enough", and seeing the other comments makes me feel like I am not alone. And I just love your vibe 💕

    Nice experiment. Thanks for sharing your insights with us. I am starting now as well to work 4 hours per day and your insights can give me some direction on what to focus on. Thanks

    Was kind of hoping Monday, Tuesday was more productive and then it was WTF :)) Came a long way from laborers fighting just to get 8-hour work days and even the weekend. We're not quite there in the somewhat misquoted 15 hour work week from Keynes but it's great to have those constraints in place and work with a good team to get that value and identity beyond your job title.

      Hahahaha! Agreed - we've come far but I think as many of us are entering the space of knowledge work (vs labor work), hours are no longer a good way of tracking output/quality anymore.

    Thank you for this video. My ultimate goal is to get down to 4 hour work days. For now, I will start with 7 hours. Thank you for the inspiration. 😀

    In illustration/comic book field we track working hours automatically with software that registers clicks on an active window. Checking e-mails, downloading files, searching for a reference online and replying is not considered focused work. I doubt you can track it by time blocking in a calendar. Using software may give you different results.

    • @MyNameIsDeya
      @MyNameIsDeya  Рік тому

      That's so interesting. How many hours of focused work do you think you do a day?

      @@MyNameIsDeya Sorry for late response! I started tracking my work time 8 years ago, back then I had a full time job (remote) and a side client. It was 5-8 hours of focused work (actively using photoshop) and 4-6 hours of scrolling/switching etc.
      When I became interested in productivity and health culture, around 2019, I discovered I actually need only 3 hours of focused work for my main job and one hour for a small side job. If I go over that I tend to lose my speed, meaning I can do exactly that the next morning 3x times faster. Though some times I do work less or more because as I colorist I need to receive a page from the artist first, and often they deliver pages as they please. So now it`s mostly 3 to 6 hours of focused work plus 1 hour for downloading/looking for references/navigate files/review scripts/discuss edits or asking questions about work etc. I also switch music/video playlists and do digital journaling - another hour or so. So if I had to represent my work in a calendar it would be +2 bonus hours in front of the computer at least, not just the focused work I do 😁

    Deya, do you recommend taking your DBM class if I have a full time job? Is it managable if i only have extra 1~2 hours per day, and plus the weekends.

    • @MyNameIsDeya
      @MyNameIsDeya  Рік тому +1

      Hey Linda! The course is about 40 hours of video content, so to finish it in 10 weeks, we normally recommend investing about 5 hours a week (to include the time to do exercises, take notes, portfolio projects). But of course, you get lifetime access to the course so you could go slower / quicker if you'd like!
      Hope that helps - but let me know any other questions. Happy to help.

    I work 9-5. There is one time when i apply half day work. I feels like its good if i can work 4 hours rather than 9-5 🥹
