  • In a world of cheap blended whiskies, is it possible to stand out for being better than terrible?
Today we have the turn of Grand Macnish, a blended whisky from 1863 and something of a change of pace from the heavily advertised gasoline of other, better known blends.

    Hi John...
We can find this here fairly regularly. It costs about the same as it does where you are.
Your comment on how whisky is often just an accompaniment to what is happening around us, special events, time with good friends, and so forth, was quite elegantly spoken. Many of the bottles on my shelf have associations that I wouldn't trade for the world. When I reach for any particular one, it brings back memories of shared conversation, laughter, comradery, and even tears. That is it's beauty, and why it is known as "spirit".
In the Ralfy review you mentioned, if I recall, he references whisky fatigue. I have experienced that myself in recent months. So I started revisiting some of the ignored and forgotten, only to be pleasantly surprised by more than a few of them. A long ago gifted Auchentoshen 12 was probably the most shocking.
Maybe sitting open on the shelf for years, untouched, has made a positive difference.
Perhaps I simply needed to reset my palate with something simpler that doesn't melt my face off.
Whatever the reason, it worked for me. It has helped me to rediscover a greater appreciation of the finer whiskys also at hand.
I very much enjoyed this review.
    Cheers, as always! 🥃🥃

If the master of majestic moments thinks I did good with words, I take that as a high compliment!

Great intro fantastic. My first whiskey was a small bottle (you know the little Christmas one mouthful ones ) when I was a youngster bells I think ? and it was horrible. Luckily I was directed to a better place later on in life but you definitely brought back a long lost memory with that comment. Definitely looking forward to more.Another fantastic interesting vid. Cheers 👍🥃

Thanks! I'm well acquainted with those little bottles, and I have a distinct memory of the smell of my grandad's Grants bottle. Eugh.

Sounds like it's something to consider if you're out with friends, not neccessarily a bottle to buy?

Actually would happily have a bottle on the shelf - it would make a good economy gift as well, it's good and unusual without being break-the-bank territory.
