Loved my Black Watch Tartan for my wedding, beautifully made and came in the nic of time!
I wear black watch in our pipe band in New Zealand. I've just ordered a hunting menzies tartan for personal.
I love Black Watch for two reasons. (1) It is dominated by my favorite color, dark blue, and (2) it is similar to my clan tartan (Forbes) but is not a custom order and is therefore less expensive. Yes, I really am Scottish.

Just got a Black Watch Tartan
I want the isle of Skye, have never worn or ever touched a black watch. Don’t think I will. As for all the other ones, want them.

One problem I have with these so-called' Universal Tartans' is that some are actually clan tartans, but became so popular, they later became 'universal.'

i see you are using a strap for your sporran (not chain) and also wearing a belt. would you recommend this over the sporran hangers, which i currently employ?
Hey Aaron, I’ve been watching a lot of the videos and from my understanding, the hangers are better for bigger guys (like myself) as the strap tends to hang below the belly and outline it, making it look bigger.
Otherwise, it’s personal preference.

It's not a universal tartan, but they have it in wool and in poly-viscose.

How do I find out what my families tardent is?
phil, go to the website, try your family name, may require alternate spelling. there are well over 2000 different tartans. if you dont find your name there are many universal tartans, or just pick one you like! hope this helped
I 2nd what Aaron said! If you know exactly what your family name is then that’s easier. Otherwise pick a tartan you like and wear it with pride :)
@@Dungeons_and_CrawdadsI have no known Scottish ancestry. 23&Me says I have some vague “Northwestern European” ancestry. My known ancestry is mostly Russian and German. I love wool; have sewn for many years; love wool fabric. I’m thinking about ordering a kilted skirt in Isle of Skye tartan; it’s pretty and the photos I’ve seen of the place are beautiful. I guess “universal tartan” means it’s not exclusive to a clan, or a country?
