When I first saw this scene, I thought that Luke may well have fallen had the emperor not gloated so much about making him fall: reminding Luke of his purpose and strengthening his resolve. Had Palpy just shut up at the point of recognizing Luke's conflict, he may have succeeded.

It exist everywhere in all of Star Wars, and it gave life and created Anakin Skywalker, the prophesied chosen one Destined to bring balance to the force, so yes, the real and true creator and father of Anakin Skywalker is the force itself

Thanks for doing this video. I think Luke had similar thoughts on the elevator ride to the throne room, even having a brief cold sweat. The Dark Side was very heavy in the throne room, so thick that Luke felt cold like in Dagobah before entering the Cave of Evil. Palpatine has a way of bringing out the worst in people. Luke was trying to prove to his father that you can reject the Dark Side.
I'd like to see more videos about the novelization. My favorite scenes are on Dagobah, the conversation with Leia before Luke's surrender, the rest of the throne room scenes, Anakin's death & funeral and the ending. All those scenes are more emotional than the movie.😭😭🙏🙏

Didn't really think about this till seeing this clip.
If Anakin had cut down Palpatine right there in the hallway... instead of just saying "I'd like to"... Palpatine would have expected let himself be killed. And Anakin would have been turned to the the Dark Side in that very moment.
Instead, even though he did lots of horrible deeds... he never fully let go of his goodness.

Are you sure the pecking order theory is sound? As I recall Jabba responded by showing Luke the pecking order instead. I mean, Luke showed him the pecking order once again but then Jabba wanted to throw a second giant animal at him. They still won in the end but it seems like the pecking order failed and they had to resort to classic murder.

Luke had touched the darkside more than once by this time. This gave him a small advantage. While Sideous's dark aura definitely enhanced any dark thoughts and feelings Luke had since having touched and felt and overcame his own darkness previously he was able to balance ot out. We see that in the final dual against his father. He used hid rage and anger in a guided way to do what he needed and stop. I believe thay was the point where Sideous knew he wouldn't fall

In "Star Wars" lore, Luke Skywalker confronts Emperor Palpatine (Darth Sidious) in "Return of the Jedi." During their encounter aboard the second Death Star, Luke experiences a moment of intense internal conflict and darkness. Here are some aspects of Luke's thoughts and feelings during this pivotal scene:
    1. **Anger and Hatred**: Luke experiences strong feelings of anger and hatred towards Palpatine, the Sith Lord responsible for orchestrating so much suffering and death across the galaxy. These emotions threaten to overwhelm him as he witnesses the Emperor's manipulative and malevolent nature firsthand.
    2. **Fear for Loved Ones**: Palpatine attempts to turn Luke to the dark side by manipulating his fear for his loved ones, especially his sister Leia. Luke briefly entertains the idea of giving in to these fears to save his friends and defeat the Empire, even if it means using the dark side.
    3. **Self-Doubt and Temptation**: Luke struggles with self-doubt and the temptation to take a quick and seemingly powerful path to victory by embracing the dark side. He realizes that such a choice would lead him down a path of corruption and ultimately make him no better than the Sith he opposes.
    4. **Redemption and Light**: Ultimately, Luke rejects the dark side and reaffirms his commitment to the Jedi way of compassion, selflessness, and redemption. He throws aside his lightsaber and declares himself a Jedi like his father before him, refusing to give in to Palpatine's manipulations.
This internal struggle showcases Luke's resilience and moral strength, as he faces the darkest temptations while striving to uphold the principles of the Jedi Order and bring balance to the Force. His ability to resist the lure of the dark side ultimately plays a crucial role in the downfall of Emperor Palpatine and the redemption of his father, Darth Vader.

More accurately, Luke knew he couldn't beat Palpatine without risking (and very very likely succeeding at) succumbing to the dark side and losing himself in the process. That's why he focused on his father's redemption... Not because he needed his help to kill Palpatine, but because he needed the anchor in the Light

Yeah, the dark side is all about raw power - which he had a lot more of it than Palpatine. His exact goal was not falling to the dark side. He couldn't have defeated Palpatine without falling to the dark side. He wasn't a master of vapad, or whatever, like Mace Windu. Palpatine knew he was in trouble from the get go and then became delusional and over confident. Had Luke not thrown down his light saber, he would have become overwhelming more powerful to Palpatine.@@josephalonzo1059

After watching your video, I now understand why the will of the force chose Luke to be trained during the start of the galactic civil war, rather than Leia. She was too aggressive and politically driven, just like how Anakin was. If she was in the same position as Luke in ROTJ, I think she would've turned to the dark side more easily. Palpatine knew more about her lineage with the Organa family and Alderaan, so you can bet he'd be taunting her with that constantly, up until she breaks and uses the dark side. She'd most definitely would win against Vader, but lose against Palpatine.

Had he not died, he had war crimes to be held accountable for. Thirty years of tyranny, violence, slaughter, oppression, and he's just a force ghost again?
The force really needs to re-evaluate who it's willing to give force ghost status too.

That's utterly ridiculous. If Luke was insignificant, instead of a threat, they never would have brought him in the first place. The fact of the matter is, with more training, he inevitably would have defeated Palpatine and Vader combined. This is why Yoda urged him to train more. He told him he wasn't ready - not that he isn't capable. Your misinterpretation is perverse. Luke's midichlorian count was a good 600 to 700 more than Palpatine. Yoda was about even or maybe 100 more. Yoda and Obi Wan wanted Luke to train and go defeat them both. Luke wanted to go sooner and redeem his father. Had he trained more, he would have mopped the fucking floor with Palpatine.

Its not black and white as they make it out to be. Luke should have killed Palpatine. He knew that was ultimately the way. Sometimes good people must to ugly things for the greater good. Its about balance, and Luke would have been ok. Its like having a chance to kill Hitler. Do you not do it because it is morally wrong or do you summon the strength deep within yourself and do what must be done. Sometimes you have to do what must be done and be ok with
