  • Having lots of fun building a big MTB bike jump with a tractor.
    In this episode of my backyard mountain bike trail building series, I have a lot of fun using dad's tractor to build myself a huge tabletop mountain bike jump. The jump ended up being 5m / 16.5 feet long. It is perfect for progression because you can go as small or as big as you like without any consequences.
    The jump is located at the end of the Snake Run mountain bike trail which I have been building in my backyard. This would have taken a long time to dig by hand so it was great to be able to build a mountain bike jump with a tractor. It was my first time using the tractor and I think the jump turned out pretty awesome.
    I can't wait to session this awesome mountain bike jump with friends and really work on my jumping technique.

    Nice jump! That lip setup hard, not a single tire rut on a fresh lip! Great idea packing it with the tractor tires. You nailed the shape with the tractor that’s a perfect “outie” shape for learning to get comfortable in the air, you easily tripled or quadrupled any of your other jump lengths.
    Keep the humor coming. That edit of you jumping yourself with the GTA font and sound effects was strait up money!!! Did the camera fall @1:23 🤣 The ultra fast tractor like a ghost was awesome, but you didn’t stop there you slowly zoomed the shot, nice edit! And the rising shot from behind the dirt pile. 👌🏼
    Way to turn regular todo’s, like digging a ditch, into MTB stuff. I have scattered jumps all over our ranch some are so far away I never use them 🤣 Also we have a New Holland tractor too. A big money booter is the best way to end a trail!

      🙌🙌🙌 thanks mate!
      Yeah I went back a couple of times and really slapped it in. Had a bit of rain while building as well which got it nice and hard.
      Haha yeah GoPro rattled loose on the hood of the tractor. I thought it was a gonna for sure but it survived.
      I had a good time in the tractor. Slowly getting the hang of it.
      Bummer some of your jumps don't get ridden as much. That's the good thing about this one. It's out in the open and close by so will be perfect to session with friends.

    The epic music with the tractor shots and lapse was spot on 👌
    Loved Aggie inspecting the dirt at the start too.
    Also, classic line re your old man's drain 😅
    Cracking shape you got on the kicker with the little step down to the table top, looks fresh.
    As always, nice POV shots on the tools, tractor and bike. Love it 👌
    Stoked with your progression in jump size throughout your first day riding the tabletop, you'll be clearing it every time now I'm sure!
    Edit: the GTA style "wasted" after landing on your clone was sick man 🤣

    • @cutlaps
      @cutlaps  2 роки тому +1

      I think I need to revisit this jump. I have some new ideas to make it better. I'm thinking of pushing all of the dirt into one landing and then building a couple of wood kickers of different shapes. That way the jump can be small or pull the kicker back slowly to get bigger. I think it will be better for progression. And maybe some mulch on top.
      It could be a little skills park at the bottom of the trail.

    • @cutlaps
      @cutlaps  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah exactly. I wanted this jump to be low consequences. It's nice to not have to worry about trees either. The landing is so long you would have to be absolutely cooking to go too big on this.

    I would prefer a steeper landing but other that that, it is a awesome jump!! please keep up the good work:)

    • @cutlaps
      @cutlaps  2 роки тому

      Cheers bud. A bit steeper would be better for sure, but it would have shortened the landing a bit too much. I want it nice and long so that there is no fear of going too big (not that I am having that problem haha).
      The angle of the down is almost the same as the angle of the takeoff. So when it is hit with the correct speed it should be pretty smooth. Right now I am casing the flat 😂😂 so it's heavier. Once I start hitting the sweet spot I can see if it needs adjusting.
      Do you like a steep takeoff as well?

    • @cutlaps
      @cutlaps  2 роки тому +1

      Cheers mate. That has always been my exact problem with jumps and one of the main reasons I built this tabletop. It's really handy to be able to film in slow motion and go back to analyse what needs improving. You should see some of the older footage of me 😂😂its horrible!
      You can see the last jump the timing was much better resulting in more air but like you said it's still a little early and I am not getting the most out of the lip. Just gotta keep at it.

    • @cutlaps
      @cutlaps  2 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, jumps are actually easier on a hard tail bike. But you need to make sure there is a proper down ramp to absorb the landing.
      Full suspension bikes absorb the take off which can buck the rider. This doesn't happen on a hard tail bike and it allows you to pump it better for more air.
