In this video I explain how DJs protect hearing, give some good tips on DJ ear protection, and show you the best headphones to wear for DJ hearing protection! HI Guys. So we all need to look after our hearing if we are DJing all the time. As much as we all love loud music, the last thing you want to do is damage your hearing for life.
If you are doing it all the time, then you need to start thinking about ear protection such as earplugs and headphones. My favorite are these Bose headphones!
In this week's video, I am going to show you the ways I go about protecting my hearing.

Why do DJs play so loud?
I admit I'm not the partying type but the sound level on clubs is stupid and dangerous

Because In a club if the music was too quiet it would not project across the room so no one would be able to hear it properly..

The answer is very simple: turn down the volume. There’s no need to have the music blasting super loud. It can still be enjoyable and fun but at a comfortable volume. Ideally under 90 dB.

What’s the point of blasting Monsters, Inc. earrape, with full volume, on a loud speaker, but it’s only 90 dB?

Great advice, and worth checkin out thiese products looks like good quality pro stuff. Just to add just turning your trebles and high mids a fraction on your mixer can help and also help your guests on the dance floor to protect their hearing. I have some mild tinatus now which is a result of DJing, the thing people forget is that things can be cumulative also.

    Great vid Phil!
What are your thoughts on getting those expensive, fitted high fi in-ears (and only mixing with them), AND noise cancelling headphones on top? That way, you never lose the highs (you actually hear them in the best possible way, since they're in-ears and you got noise cancellation).

I'm an EDM producer who is hoping to train as a DJ soon. I have daith and tragus piercings (look them up if you're not sure what they look like) and have trouble getting hearing protection and IEMs to stay in. Does anyone else with similar piercings have any tips? Earmuff type hearing protection won't work if you have to wear headphones to mix.

ok so my hearing is bust. So will have to get hearing aids (at least until a miracle drug that fixes hearing loss is available, but I don't see that happening anytime soon as "nearly-approved" drugs that claim they will do this, like the FX-322 by Frequency Therapeutics eg, that we've all been waiting for doesn't seem to be moving along...). Now my question is if these hearing aids will help with our hearing throughout the day, should we ALSO wear them at gigs - and when we use dj headphones - or will this cause even more damage? I mean we can hear well in everyday life, but we obviously also can't hear as well at gigs (that's why everyone keeps asking us to lower the volume, I guess, lol). So, we want to hear better at gigs/clubs too, so it would maybe make sense to use hearing aids there too. No?

Hey man, I really learnt alot here. Thankyou!
I had one question about the noise cancelling HPs. It's my understanding that the tech will play a frequency to cancle out the external noise, kind of like a double negative.
So this brimgs me to the question,
Dose that negative frequency clash affect hearing?
Theres alot of discussion that could come from this topic, feel free to jump in guy's and gals! @phillharris
