I'm not a big board game / card game guy but I have a buddy that owns Doomlings and we've repeatedly played it on game night and its a lot of fun and is quite quick to play and easy to learn. The cards mostly just tell you what to do or how to score.
I recently played this with my 9 year old daughter at a board gaming day . Was really easy to pick up as our first game and really fun ( she of course beat me )
After painting miniatures for over 40 years, it's so refreshing to learn teachniques that are so simple, yet so effective. This is the kind of technique where you're saying to yourself, "why didn't I think of that?", but then realize, it's going to make your painting better so who cares. Also, great job at being a dad!
I like your relaxed approach. UA-cam is saturated with competition level painting tutorials. I paint to get minis on the table, to actually play games. Thanks for the videos, you're awesome! Keep it up!
Such quick paint schemes and they look INCREDIBLE! I love me a silver/gold or brassy colour scheme! It just looks good on almost anything with armour on.
As someone old enough to remember when Black Legion only had silver trim, I’m a big fan of the first scheme! Quick, efficient and very old school! What’s not to love!? Great job (as always)!
As someone who just finished painting 2000 points of Luna Wolves successor CSM.... why in god's holy name did I elect to paint WHITE and GOLD TRIM. I envy black legion lol.
Good tips, though I use most of them already. One cool thing about the metallic speed paints: The technique of using a contras/speed paint on metallic base to get a colored metallic? You can do that the other way as well! Paint a rough NMM (this is how I practice NMM) and then put a thin metallic on top. You get a very nice metal. Or do a glow effect on a weapon, etc and then put the thin metallic paint on top. Looks amazing. Thanks for the tutorials :)
Only watching this now, as I thought it was a video on painting base trim and was wondering how you had a 20 minute painting goblin green on the bases. Great video on armour.
I’ve been putting off painting my CSM and Stormcast minis for a year now, I’ll watch this video a couple of times more and see if I can summon the courage, thank you!
CMS and their variants are basically more trim than panels at this point so it makes sense, plus you get the advantage of the paint staying within the lines easier.
I'd never seen the paint the trim colour approach until this video. It's so obvious and yet I've learnt something new today. Embarrasses me to say I've also been painting a 1980s amount of time 💩 You never stop learning as the saying goes. Cheers Peachy 👍

I love incredibly economical ways to paint armies. As a person who sometimes paints commissions, having more strategies for painting models quickly to an army standard is so nice.
@@PeachyTips I find that with those efficiencies, a painter gets back the time necessary to do more cool fun stuff. Like, if you budget an hour for a paint job and your base paint job is reduced from 45mins to 30mins, you've doubled your "mess about" time, which can really level up your painting. Or maybe you use that time on bases or just call it and spend that time with the kids or whatever. In any case, great vid ❤️ love seeing the fantasy minis 🤘
More amazing painting tips for people who just want cool looking armies to game with and not Golden Deamon entries! I used the Midwinter Minis version of bronze drybrush over black for my CSMs and found Black Legion a good “filler” colour. Need to get some of that beige wash for my Ghostbusters Orks that are on their way - using it on the ORKTO1 buggy will be cool!
Basing coating the trim color is brilliant! Great video. Also, couldn't help but notice the dead Man's hand redux box in the background. I'd love to see cowboys, but I'm probably the only one
@@PeachyTips not sure, maybe a Griffin Inquisitor. A robed guy with heavy armor, holy symbols, and a venetian like mask. A friend with a second-hand-games shop ended up with a box of Confrontation stuff, and this one was too cool to leave it there. Seing the Fianna painted up could be interesting. Maybe a video on how to handle and paint metal miniatures? 😉
Many thanks for the compliment, hope you found the hacks useful and enjoy getting your own sexy models painted up and ready to unleash hell upon your opponents! Luv Mrs Peach 🍑
Hey Peachy (and everyone else)! Thank you for the video (I loved it as always). Earlier today I watched the Juggz latest episode and... you know... maybe people would like to see you kitbashing trench crusade miniatures using Bolt Action and Stargrave/Frostgrave/Oathmark kits. Just sayin'... just saying'...
Tainted Gold - that was a big hit for Soft Cell. Great vid, I often use a metallic sharpie to paint trim (or other things like pipes, conduits, etc). Cheers!
thank you monsuer peachess, suprised you haven't done a kill team guide.. but will try something similar on my death guard, the trim is a pain, the panels less so, so reverse it and do the trim first. good idea
On that second coat of black for non metallic parts over metal...I would use a straight black paint. I know you know what you're doing, but I feel like black speed paint would get into all the nooks and crannies, whereas the black paint you could not have to worry about getting into those so much, but make sure you knock back that hint of metallic beneath the surface on the raised parts. Anyway, awesome tutorial, thank you. Maybe you can do a tutorial on edge highlights fast? I know, I know, the fastest way is don't do them or drybrush. But if you have ideas...
So firstly your observation about the black is great, I was just keeping the paint count down, but using a more opaque paint would be a good move too. In regards to fast highlights, honestly drybrushing is among the fastest, but the reverse highlight effect I mentioned is also pretty speedy and looks like battered armour. I have seen sponge chipping being used to good effect too to do highlights
got back into 40k in Late 9th due partly to the Chaos Terminators, crash course in trim ! (I got more chaos, didn't learn) moving to airbrush undercoat, I use vallejo black with a quick light white if I'm painting black, it's easier then mixing it grey I've found. Space Marines don't do trim, great for paiting, bad for colour schemes Go on Charlie! keep beating dad, future AoS/ 40k champ in training !
Thanks for the video. Funnily enough working on liberators at the moment before I move on to Slaves to Darkness and was wondering if my process was alright and this video gave me a lot more confidence and to trust the process more.
@PeachyTips Oh for sure and the new Kill Team Starter Set eyeing me up from the shelf too. If I get fed up with trim though there are a lovely Jade Obelisk that want painted in an ancient Egyptian scheme to take a little break.
I've got 8 of the 2nd edition 40k metal Chaos Terminators, I airbrushed zenithal reds/orange first, wish I had done the trim colour first (Vallejo Metal silver + Citadel Fyreslayer flesh, 1:3 ratio) because it's super thin and took so long to paint, highlight, shade, on the two I've done so far, that I've given up on them. I've had them for nearly 30yrs, one day I'll finish all 8!!
Yeah it’s not great when something fun turns into a huge chore….i do hate that for you, I’m sure you’ll get them done, they’ll end up being your moby dick lol
Awesome vid...I was stressing out about my Stormcast...then lo and behold I noticed the speedpaint mega set I got for Christmas last year....time for some cool shortcuts
Hi Peachy, thanks for the really great video, the white and gold made me realise metalic speedpaints/contrasts exist and my mind is blown! Quick question, in the video you mentioned that some spray paints actually do match their nonspray counterparts, do any spring to mind that you can share? Im always a sucker for being able to spray down an army and easily be able to fix mistakes! Cheers again
Yeah the army painter sprays match the relevant fantastic paint they sell, and pretty much all of the colour forge sprays are a match to citadel paints.
I like how the black was working on the Chaos Marine you painted. I have a lot of Raven Guard to paint. Their armor tends to be black with white trim or a red or a green on the paldron trim. Which I'd say you'd benefit from a white base to paint a bright red or green over it. My question is, how would you go about painting a Raven Guard armor scheme?
@@PeachyTips I think I've seen all of your videos so far. But I can't recall having seen that. I guess I'll have to give it a rewatch. Although I was enjoying the effect of the black speed paint over the gold metallic. That sort of weird blurring between black and dark steel is really cool.
I'd love to see a video on how to pick colours for bases. I sometimes paint the whole model, get to the base and the colour I pick throws everything off
Yeah that’s a great idea, something to add to the list, as a basic rule we used to adhere to, if it’s a dark coloured mini, do a light base, if it’s a light coloured mini, do a darker base. And earthy browns work with most schemes.
Thanks Peachy, great video. And I've inadvertently found a way to paint my iron warriors quickly using your black legion guide and stopping at the first coat. Might try out that doomlings game on my daughters!
Really like the stormcast. The blue and gold standard paintscheme for them really made them super boring for me, but the more I see iron or "enamel" armors on them the more interested I get.
Agreed, the early colours we came up with in the studio was make them feel like Spacemarine chapters…..even though they wanted to avoid them feeling like space marine chapters lol. But after doing all that and on reflection, steel, iron, enamelled armour looks so much cooler. I’m still super proud of the work myself and the painters did, but that’s the creative journey I guess
As someone who paints... a bunch... of Chaos Models (AOS and 40k), I deal with a lot of trim. This was a very welcome, helpful, time-saving video. Thanks Peachy - very informative! Also, I waited until it was late for me, expecting you'd be finally asleep, to reply! :D
Tip; tie in your undercoat with a BIg drybrush full of pot paint - take next tro no time and makes thing easier. Tim with a "paint pen" metallic or otherwise works a wonder.
That Grim Black looks like it's a bit thinner than the Black Templar contrast to me, am I right on that? I use slightly thinned Black Templar over leadbelcher for bolter casings, so a pot that's already in the ballpark might be handy. The Black Legion contrast is probably a good one to try for armour panels over the trim colour, it's strong. Might even need to thin a bit if you want the metallic effect to still show.
These are all spot on observations, black legion is really opaque but also perfectly thinned, I’d say grim black is a little more thinned than black Templar for sure, so perfect for your boltguns
Well we did manage to get them down to 30 mins a miniature, the product line approach certainly helps. And w started from gold and used thinned turquoise for the armour….ill need to cover that soon
I can’t see why not, potentially starting with brass then adding green, or for a more wild approach, start with a green, drybrush with the trim colour then just tidy up the armour after with contrasts or speed paints etc
Peach, working on a stormcast model I picked up specifically bc of this video: knowing I have really shaky hands, should I be hitting the model with a varnish prior to painting armor panels to clean up the metalic trim rather than having so much fixing to do??
For reference I used vallejo liquid silver for the trim with Vallejo black lotus over it to get the armor color I wanted (probably identical to AP enchanted steel?)
Thats a very kind compliment, I know from Peach's store days the staff are very much under pressure to do an awful lot of stuff with few staff and they just don't have the time to invest in painting the models, so it'd be amazing if Peach's videos could help them too 😀 Luv Mrs Peach 🍑
I was wondering Peachy, just out of curiosity, what black you would have used on the second marine in the studio days? Because wasn't that pre-contrast times (and you wouldn't have been using Army Painter, right?). Just thinned Chaos Black or Abaddon Black? Does that work as well as the speed paint?
@@PeachyTips nice one 😃. The million dollar question I guess is, do you think contrast / speed paints add anything more compared to just thinned down acrylics? I've been using contrast a lot and enjoying the effects, just wondering if it truly is better or just a lot of good marketing!
@@WyvernMinisin a nutshell it feels like a very different paint, especially with the way it cures on the miniature, absolutely with thinned down acrylic paints they’re are a few similarities, like how it applies from brush to model. But I’d say the end results are very different, whatever medium they put in these things, gives you a decent amount of coverage, pulls slightly away from the edges, giving you a sort of highlight and nicely settles in the recesses, giving you a decent shade too. Don’t get me wrong they have their faults for sure (colour matching when making mistakes) but they are a great tool for speeding things along and getting great quick results
@@PeachyTips that's really good to hear, thanks Peachy, it's good to know they do offer something additional. I'm enjoying them as another tool in the arsenal, glad to hear you find the same. Loving the videos mate!

Aww 😍🫶 well I wouldn’t say the best or fastest, but I’m happy with what I do
I have a pile of Perry knights that this puts me in the mood to finish
Yeah! Foot or mounted…..or both?
@ Agincourt foot knights. Picked it up to run as an Age of Fantasy army from One Page Rules
@@Gryndiroh yes! Those are some great minis, lots of great 28mm minis these days
Is that a Gelgoog Menace box in the background?
Peach I'm so happy to see this video... I'd love to know what your best time for scarab occult terminators is 🤣
Well we did manage to get them down to 30 mins a miniature, the product line approach certainly helps.
And w started from gold and used thinned turquoise for the armour….ill need to cover that soon
@@PeachyTips OMG PLEASE DO! I have 10 SOT's and a TS Chaos Sorcerer all sitting half (or less) completed XD - and 30 mins is INSANE!
Sweating in Slaves to Darkness and Tzeentch trim
Eeek! You got this 💪💪💪
Just move your arms faster! 😂
Another interesting video Mr. Peach. Do you think this would work on Death Guard too? New kill team starter set I'm looking at you!
I can’t see why not, potentially starting with brass then adding green, or for a more wild approach, start with a green, drybrush with the trim colour then just tidy up the armour after with contrasts or speed paints etc
Thanks for making this Peachy!
It’s my pleasure!! Been meaning to do this for awhile tbh
That could work, especially if it’s gloss,
Fab video as always Peachy. 🤘
The modern GW shops should use these guides to paint thier minis for the demo tables, demo tables look disapointing nowadays and yours look great
Thats a very kind compliment, I know from Peach's store days the staff are very much under pressure to do an awful lot of stuff with few staff and they just don't have the time to invest in painting the models, so it'd be amazing if Peach's videos could help them too 😀
Luv Mrs Peach 🍑
Not seen video yet, but my tip is use mk VI shoulderpads :)
Hahaha! Very smart….great advice lol 😂👍
I’ve been waiting for this video since 2002
Ha! That’s a long wait lol
@ was definitely worth it! Maybe my recent re-collection of CSM can get some paint now. The white stormcast theme was incredible too.
The second method is pretty much what i did with my workd eaters.
Peachy, could you try to do a how-to on painting porcelain, so that the color looks like it was three dimensional.
Hello, I can’t seem to find “pure grime” by Army Painter. Do you have any alternatives?
That’s because it’s an AK interactive paint, I just didn’t put the company name on the swatch, soz
Is the pure grime the ak interactive wash? And did you thin it down or straight out of the pot? 😅
That's correct, and ii added water on the model, i must've cut that voice over out...darn it
@PeachyTips perfect thank you can't wait to give it a try 😁
"...it's Chaos, innit?"
the ending sounds like Peach is touting to be sponsored by Manscaped!
Hahaha! I don’t have that much hair on me lol
Now this is a fukin winning video
😍😍😍 well I just hope folks find it useful is all
I was wondering Peachy, just out of curiosity, what black you would have used on the second marine in the studio days? Because wasn't that pre-contrast times (and you wouldn't have been using Army Painter, right?). Just thinned Chaos Black or Abaddon Black? Does that work as well as the speed paint?
Yep just thinned down black acrylic was what we did 😍👍 until Black Legion/Grim Black came on the scene, opaque coverage but thinned 🤯
Great video peachy. If you have a similar technique for a dirty nihilakh speed version. I know someone who would benefit. 👀 Peachy punch 👊🥊
Well I might have to delve deep into the Necrons I reckon
@PeachyTips I just rewatched some previous tips from a a different phase of your influencer life. Great tips again but if you have a way to do them dirty, like they just awoke and emerged from a tomb world, or horror because they want your skin for their new luxury, that'd be fine like Italian wine. I'm Nihilakh biased of course because I like the best things.
@@Dadsidehobbiesha! Absolutely, I love dirty old models 😂
@@PeachyTips I was not aware that you were French 🥖
Dark tone from Armypainter is that similar to Nuln oil from Citadel?
Pretty much, strong tone is very close to Agrax, and then they have a multitude of other colours/tones
