- Join us as we travel halfway around Australia from August through to November 2023. Exploring places in Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia.
In this video we visited Kings Canyon in Northern Territory, Australia
We based ourselves at the Kings Canyon Discovery Park, great to top up supplies and freshen up from our trip. We left early in the morning to do the Kings Canyon Rim Walk (6km). You will need sun protection, water, and snacks due to the heat and being exposed to the elements. Our 6yr old walked it so although you will need a certain level of fitness, it is manageable.
The second day we walked the Kings Creek Walk, this compared to the Rim Walk was very easy to do, with the whole section having laid out paths and lots of trees to supply you with shade from the sun.
Kings Canyon, located in the Northern Territory of Australia, was formed over 400 million years ago. It was initially created by a gradual uplift, bending rock layers with the earth’s shifting crust, and erosion from wind, rain, and the ancestral Kings Creek etched the canyon into the sandstone bedrock. The area has been inhabited by the Luritja Aboriginal people for over 20,000 years134. The first European to discover Kings Canyon was Earnest Giles during his 1872 expedition.
