Hi Masaru, Sadly you have found one of the bad parts about New Zealand with our high prices for seafood however, since you don't need a license to get seafood it can sometimes just be much cheaper to get it yourself.. We do however have limits to the amount of items you can harvest however which is just to help keep things sustainable. Welcome to New Zealand though the waters are a bit cold but they're beautiful when you're diving

Nice comment!! I love it when kiwis comment on videos posted by oversees creators. I'm a big fan of Masaru but I felt bad when he hated the kina, and also didn't know we sold crabs that big here!

Masaru-san, maybe you should try boiling the crab in the shell before removing the meat! It tends to keep the flavor of the meat better and avoids it being watery! I was really surprised to see you remove the meat first, I have never seen that done before! I really enjoyed this video! I hope you give king crab another chance! ❤

You are incredibly artistic with your approach to your work, as you are always putting yourself into some sticky and intimidating crevasses to claim your prize! The translation on all the videos helped us all understand so much better the journey you endured! Thank you so much for diving into NZ, this has been so insightful :D Cheers!

what's really interesting about king crab is that it's evolved from an entirely separate line than crabs, themselves, and is proof nature prefers the body of a crab over other species.

It seemed to me more like he was surprised people in New Zealand were comfortable eating them raw and sold them as such, opposed to the Japanese who are more comfortable with raw seafood. Like "oh, I didn't think they'd eat raw oysters too."

@Tomato Asian That's their point. In NZ I've never even encountered cooked scallops. Raw (very fresh!) scallops are something we are known for. OTOH, other raw seafood is mostly only eaten in cuisines from other countries. And Masuru eats some incredibly dodgy things, making his dubiousness extremely funny here.

Not a crab species you can get locally in NZ.
The crabs in NZ are small and not worth eating IMO.
Also, food and especially seafood is over priced in NZ compared to other countries.
    Good luck on your adventures!
Catching it yourself is sooo much cheaper and much more rewarding. I look forward to watching your upcoming videos about crayfish, paua and kingfish!

Hi, I'm from Australia and if you ever come to Victoria I can connect you with a lot of suppliers and even some boats if you're interested. I can even take you fishing and diving too. If you ever come here, then I recommend going to Sydney for the markets and western Australia for its fishing and diving.
Sadly, the fish markets open to the public are not the best quality we have and that's sad for foreigners because its hard for them to get the best we offer unless they go into a good retail shop that only sells the best.
Anyway just like to say that if you ever come here to reach out and I can give numbers and locations to a lot of places for you to visit. Also thanks for your videos, it reminds me of the times I used to go diving with my father. He works too much and has fears of diving now, I ask him lots of times to come out but always says no. Thanks for your videos they make me smile :)
