In all my years as a professional music critic, watching many of the talent shows, AGT, BGT, The Voice, etc., this was the most surprising and uplifting audition of all time. Susan Boyle is the perfect example of never judge a book by it's cover. She has gone on to have a career, her talent justified. Great person also.

You were surprised because of the way she looked? I know of some really "famous" singers who I think are butt ugly. This should have been a wake up call, but how quickly we forget. God gifts who HE chooses.

Susan was actually really shy. Simon Cowel became her manager. She was the youngest of 10 and was told by her siblings that she was slow. So she had to stay home and look after her parents while they lived. She did. She has made millions and she still lives in that little house. She has had it painted and a new kitchen and bathroom. She is wonderful.

Susan Boyle came back a few years later to compete in BGT’s Tournament of Champions and sang the hit by The Rolling Stones called “Wild Horses”. The change in her appearance after Simon and the stylists gave her a great makeover took years off of her. She achieved her dream and sang with her idol Elaine Paige. I am so glad that her talent has been recognized and made her a wealthy woman.

She didn’t cope with all the attention received from being on Britains got talent and had mental health issues 😊 . Each week her singing got better and better but her behaviour got more and more erratic . Everybody expected her to win so there it was a huge shock when a street dance group ‘Diversity’ won leaving Susan in second place . It was later reported the show didn’t feel she would cope with the fame which suggests the votes were somehow ‘changed’ to stop Susan from winning , but who knows eh ! When my mother, who had prepared to be a concert pianist growing up, was at the edge of dementia ,I told her about the build up to this performance and then played this recording. Mom had tears running down her face beginning about the third note from Susan's mouth. Mom talked about it several times in the next few days but didn't want me to play it again. It was to much emotionally for her. Somehow I wonder if it wasn't partially to do with her endeavor to be on stage playing a grand piano.

Susan returned to Brit's Got Talent Tournament of Champions few years later and sang Wild Horses. By the Rolling Stones. You should check that out. She was given a complete makeover and looks lovely. She has made several albums. Lives a quiet life in her hometown. Did get to sing with her idol, Elaine Paige as well as other famous singers, and has made numerous tv and concert appearances. She made it to the end of the show to the final 2 and didn't win 1 st place but that doesn't matter because we've never heard about the group that came in #1.
It happens that way quite often. Those who don't make it to the #1 position become famous. Jennifer Hudson is a prime example.
Susan got her wish, millions and millions know who she is and have purchased her albums. Her story is an underdog story for the ages. Fame came with some personal struggles but she has managed to overcome them.
    Susan Boyle is a treasure.
