The complete lack of unique armor sets in the depths/sky islands is very dissapointing. They're all just re-used DLC/Amiibo outfits from botw.

Don't worry. Even if there won't be a DLC, I'm planning on making another Botw/Totk version Zelda game that will involve traveling to other lands, facing off armies from other lands that want to conquer Hyrule, or with Link coming to the era of Hyrule's founding with Zelda this time.
It'll also be a game where you'll see new inventory, new creatures, new legends, and to see the relationship of Link and Zelda grow.
One day, I'm planning to create this on my own if Nintendo won't do anything about it.

There is parts of the Tears of the Kingdom story it is missing out on which is Zelda's own adventure in the distant past. We have only seen glimpses of that through the Dragon Tear memories (or Zelda's memories) but they doesn't shown us much on Ganondorf's backstory (since Kotake and Koume are briefly made appearance and their names ware written in the Gloom weapons and that Japanese version gives out his true motivation). Especially there is very little of the Zonai origins, to give more screentime for King Rauru, Queen Sonia, and Mineru, and more of Link x Zelda moments before the opening of the game.
A playable Princess Zelda would've been a great way to make a companion piece of the story (if Fujibayashi, Aonuma, and Nintendo haven't decided to canceled their DLC plans) since the plot is dived into two. This fresh concept has been a lost opportunity (Since Skyward Sword's Unfinished Second Quest) and the game would've make it up since the developers claimed this Zelda is the strongest of all versions.

I love tears of the kingdom. I'm a long time Zelda fan and I'm very aware of the Zelda cycle. The last game to release is always the least favorite and then over time it's popularity will grow. Happens every single time.

Sure extremes are always most riled up close to release (best/worst game of all time with blinders on), but that really depends on the player and by now we've seen many level-headed reviews and discussions in overall agreement that while TOTK is a good game, it's kinda all over the place and would have benefited from more focus to deepen the experience. I've seen so often the claim that BOTW can feel like a beta and that TOTK improves so much, but I think that precisely with time BOTW will remain as this first essential renewal with a mechanically solid but still underwhelming follow up. I hope I can test that theory some day by replaying both games...
