Repurposing second hand books is a great way of keeping them out of landfills and giving them a new purpose. I'm a retired librarian and books are continuously removed from a collection for a variety of reasons such as damage, outdated information, poor circulation, etc. I use second hand books all the time for a variety of projects. Great way to reduce waste and might help save a tree or two if everyone recycles paper.
So SAD you have to DEFEND yourself and JUSTIFY your actions with the books. Even 'IF' it were brand new, YOU turn it into a beautiful PIECE OF ART!!!! Shame on people that make comments like that to you! Just keep being YOU Asia, you ROCK! Love you, friend 🧡~Ana
Exactly. No one has any right to comment on how someone's uses their own belongings, or purchases. It's more baffling that a person making such a ridiculous comment might be someone who is creative themselves
Thank you so much my dear Ana! I needed to hear this! I love books and the comment actually made me feel sad a little and knowing that so many of my craft friends do agree with me, is heartwarming and so apperciated! ❤️❤️❤️
If people don’t like you being creative and saving books, they should just move on and keep their thoughts to themselves. Being creative souls, we should never have to defend ourselves when we’re not doing anything wrong. It’s better that they have a new life than end up in the landfill. I’m glad you’re feeling good about you do because you’ve done nothing wrong. You’ve done such an incredible job making these wonderful pages. You have taught me something new. Thank you Asia Marquet. Big love from Canada 🇨🇦
Thank you so much Asia, I really really enjoyed watching you and listening to you whilst you created this absolutely and utterly beautiful spread. I ❤❤❤❤❤ Love it so much. You do not ever have to defend yourself to anyone at all. Your artwork is testament to you. Doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, I’ve never seen a bad video from you. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags ❤❤❤❤❤
Those people are jealous that they aren’t as talented as you, Asia, and they didn’t think of using books either. I love watching you create and prepare the pages of your books for beautiful designs. ❤❤❤
Hi Asia, thanks for the tips and for sharing your beautiful pages! For the black you can use the black stabilo all, it's a very dark black. See you soon!
Me too! Love that particular border: So sad, that they are always sth unexpected :) I did petty the same actions on both pages and one border is better than other:) Thank you sweet Nathalie! xx
I love this little book ❤ You do not have to justify yourself on the media you use, you are an artist and it is your choice, your creative path, no one should criticize this, especially when you make beautiful pages like this! These books (damaged or not) are better in your hands than alone on a shelf. Although I understand that can sometimes shocked people "not initiated", but we know what books to use where not 😊 Another beautiful page 😍
You are not the national library, it’s not your goal to keep books for future generations, you can make what you want with your books. You have not to apologize. Keep going!
Beautiful work! Thanks for the tutorial. Don't listen to people who have no business telling you what to do in the first place. Your art gives an old, unwanted book new life. We all know how many books are lingering on thrift shop shelves...why not make them into art?
That makes me sad to hear someone left some not so nice comments to you. If you have acquired a book it becomes yours which means you may do whatever you want with it! There aren't any rules to how a person uses a book, IMO! I love your work & books are fun to use & cheaper than a blank journal. oxxo
I used to write in my texts books when i was in college. Got some harsh comments for it from people i didn't even know. I am an ultra book lover. My best job was working in a library.( Btw, i graduated with honors. ) If you read Harry Potter, remember the scene when the boggart turned into Prof. Snape wearing Neville's Grandmother's coat and hat? To make it disappear the word riddikkulus had to be said. That whole scene plays in my imagination when I encounter people who are ridiculously intrusive. I had to come up with something to keep me from losing it when people slimed me with their rudeness. This really works for me. 9:369:36 Thank you j.k.r. (Prof Snape wrote in his potions book).
As a person who has “owned” hundreds of books in my life…I fail to understand why anyone would question how I use them… Such a ridiculous criticism. Her art is beautiful.
A little, but not too much as the reactive to water Magicals would teint the paste anyway :) Maybe a little bit less though, hard to say, it depends on the pigment strength :) Thank you! xx
I think it completely depends on the book you're using, as do you! You wouldn't use a first edition classic, neither would I, you are using a cheap mass-produced well used and abused little book and giving it new life. I often use pages of old well used and abused crappy "love" novels, that were given to me by a neighbour with the words "even the oxfam shop won't take those, do you want them?" So yeah, no guilt!
No explanation necessary for upcycling old stuff. You’re always gonna get a few haters, just scroll on by…just ask yourself-they’re watching my vids, so at least they’re upping my viewership😅
ohhh Asia, you don't need to apologize for using books. That person should not have posted that comment. Everybody does with their books what they want. I used to sell secondhand books with my volunteer group, once a year for a good cause, and after 7 years when we stopped. We asked people all around who wanted the leftover books for free and nobody wanted them 🤷♀. I was heartbroken to see a whole container (and I mean, one for a truck) filled with books, just to throw away! I saved as many as I could stock for myself (to read, but also to craft) and I filled like 10 banana boxes to put in the free library in our neighborhood. I would have had no problem if anybody took them, even if it was to craft or burn them and warm their home with it. Throwing it away hurt more than all the other possibilities. Making art with books is the best way of keeping them being seen ❤ Thank you for all the things you share with us 😘

People should mind their own business and refrain from judging others! Great video!
Thank you so much Mary! xx

I think using old books are fine in the name of art. I enjoy your videos very much.

You’re giving books new life and love. Good For You! You always create such beautiful art. I love watching your videos. Thank you! Great tips too.

Thank you so, so much dear Elaine! It means a lot! 😘😘😘
I think you are an amazing artist ❤❤❤❤❤❤bravissima
Amazing crackle, ineresting using paste then crackle! Will try that! Gorgeous spread, thank you 🧡🩶🤎
Absolutely beautiful! You make books more than they were!❤❤
Thank you so much Anne! xx
You are giving life to a book
Hi Asia, thanks for the tips and for sharing your beautiful pages! For the black you can use the black stabilo all, it's a very dark black. See you soon!
Asia, thanks for the tip of using texture paste and while still wet, add crackle paste to get nice large cracks. I hadn’t thought to do this.
Thank you so much Cheryl and you are welcome! xx
I love that brown border on the right page!! And the shading is the perfect finishing touch❤❤❤
Me too! Love that particular border: So sad, that they are always sth unexpected :) I did petty the same actions on both pages and one border is better than other:) Thank you sweet Nathalie! xx
SOooo happy to have found you! This was super cool and inspiring ❤️

You give the old book new life. Ignore the not nice comment.
Pretty book!
Thank you! xx
piękny film :) też kiedyś myślałam że to strata książek (ale nie krytykowałam innych, którzy je tak używali), ale dojrzałam do niego :D
As an old librarian....at least they are not put in the trash or burned...like everyone still does.
Thank you so very much! 😘

Would the result have been very different if you had used the magical colours before stencilling with the modelling paste I wonder? Great page!
A little, but not too much as the reactive to water Magicals would teint the paste anyway :) Maybe a little bit less though, hard to say, it depends on the pigment strength :) Thank you! xx
You don't need to explain - of course you would never waste a good book!
She was WRONG! ❤️🥰
Anyone would think you're sacrificing a small child when it comes to using old books! Would they prefer they get put in landfill or burnt?
