So I went for it, never thought I'd pull it off but a little elbow grease and a lot of push-pull technique got me through it. When I was young I played a little double bass but until covid I hadn’t touched a double pedal in like 10 years. It’s been a fun journey working it back up but I’m still a jazz drummer at heart ♥️♥️. Also if you hear some of the fills or crashes underneath sorry about that, I'm still learning how to record and remove the original drums. 😘
If you have any requests please leave a comment!

I would like to see you play cuntcrusher from infant annihilator 😁
They do a drum playthrough. You should check it out
Thanks so much, Ill check it out!
There is SO much to love about these videos. You get a guy who is clearly extremely competent in his mode of drumming playing something wholly different from his background. You get raw playing, with slight warts and all, which to me is so punk, so jazz, in the true spirit of both. The level of skill involved in both styles is extreme, and these videos serve as such a wonderful primer in that. I love the expressions of pure joy on your face as you power through these tracks. Well played. There's magic here.
Can I tell u something, that is exactly what I was going for and for you to write this means so much to me. Honestly, what a beautiful and nice thing to take the time to write. Thank u sincerely from the bottom….. and top of my heart. So much motivation from this comment alone, I promise there will be more and better. Thank u 🤜🤛🤟🤝
Jazz drummer with crazy superb footwork too. That is now disturbing!! Brilliant stuff sir!!
Haha Craig! Man I thank u so much, I never thought I’d be happy someone called me disturbing lol. 😁😁
Slayer fan here, nice job. I think Dave would give you a thumbs up. 👍👍👍🤘🤘🤘
Aaron thanks so much for say that dude!! Have a great one!
Looks like a Rehearsal Factory monthly room...I recognize those wall carpet tiles.
Dude!! Great eye! Islington rf.
Amazing song and cover ! I am no drummer, but it was interesring to see how you seemed sometimes close from your limits of endurance ! I also enjoyed the lightness and fluidity of the way you played the fills ! Thanks for sharing your performance !
Thank u so much! U are definitely right about close to my limit. Thanks so much for watching!
An old mate of mine is a great drummer and would sit and play Slayer riffs for fun while having a totally unrelated conversation often while very drunk lol. The guy was a freak lol and a brilliant drummer
That’s awesome dude, I can’t imagine playing this shit while talking, or drunk for that matter lolol. I need some lessons from him haha
Honestly he was astonishing. We used to play together at a local bar's jam night and I kid you not, as we went up to play we had to WAKE HIM UP and almost carry him onstage. Halfway through he fell backwards off the drum stool onto the pub bench seats behind. He NEVER MISSED A NOTE! He was far too good to play with rubbish like me but was great fun 😃
Hahhhhahah this guy sounds like pure gold! Thanks for sharing the story dude. I love it.
SLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYER rancid, angel of death! flying free \m/
Sadistic, surgeon of demise
Sadist of the noblest blood!! 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
this makes me wonder what a big band version of the song would sound like!
Ya man! Can u imagine!? Full on metal still but with horns and a shot section lol
So this was in my recommended thread.
I'm not mad at it hahaha
Excellent job.
✌🏽🤘🏼
I love this! Hahah thank u UA-cam algorithm! Also thanks for watching and commenting!
Wow. Kudos. Thank you for being so open minded. Great job mate.
Thank u man for watching and the kind words! I really appreciate it!
And.... Drumroll.....
Drumroll.....
Drumroll.....
Lots of drumrolls!!!
Wowwwwwwww
Hahhhaha
Damn brother you nailed IT!! Screw those ppl you disliked it.
Thanks so much bro!
great cover ! i dare you to do ghosts of war by slayer :-) greetings from Amsterdam
Thanks so much dude! I’ll check it out, hope it’s not to hard hahaha
Also love from Canada dude!
Great job! At 52; trying to play this since it came out, still can’t….
Thanks so much! I literally couldn’t even think about it without push pull technique.
I just can’t figure out why someone gave you a thumbs down, you killed it dude. Excellent cover.
I’m guessing the thumbs down came from another drummer that is a Slayer fan and they can’t play the song so..........
Joseph thanks so much man! Haters gonna hate right. Seriously thought thanks for watching. 🤟🤟✊
Probably because it was edited, at 24 second in you can clearly hear the crash but Matt never hit it....and there's a couple more through the song too....
Na man that’s just the actual track in the background. Again I swear on everything that is holy I played it from start to finish. And I am truly complemented that u think it can’t be true. There is more to come soon and it will be better!
@@yarpyarp85 hey Matt, apologies man, I thought it was edited but if that cymbal crash was on the backing track then my mistake, didn't mean to offend or anything, you are an awesome drummer, again my bad dude....👍👍
No man no. No offence at all. Thank u so much for watching and for the kind words. 😁😁
Do more Slayer. Try Silent Scream, Behind the Crooked Cross or At Dawn They Sleep.
Done, its fun stuff to learn anyway. Thanks for watching and commenting! 🤟
I enjoyed watching this, as a mostly metal drummer myself. It seemed to be that you are quite enjoying playing this also, which is great! I checked out one of your drum solo videos also, very tasty!
Thanks so much bro and yes these are definitely fun songs to play for sure.
Dave Lombardo or Dave Weckl ? I'll take both ! Killer playing ! Cheers from Morocco
Bro thank u love from Canada!
Lombardo is an absolutely sick drummer. He does some tasty jazz stuff too when hes not always metalling out! Great job! Great recognized great!
Josh you’re the man thanks so much for saying that and checking my stuff out!
@@yarpyarp85 The pleasure is all on this side of the table, my friend.
U r to kind man. 🤜🤛🤜🤛♥️
Awesome Job!!
Thanks so much man!!
Love this song. Always have. You crushed it completely. Mesmerising to watch too. Great job.
You’re the man for saying that! Thanks so much for checking it out dude!
Awesome job.
Thanks so much!
Excellent stuff mate, used to play decades back and the mid section was so much fun, Dave Lombardo’s fills were always a joy. Back in 86/87 when this came out this performance raised the bar as to what was possible in metal drumming. That’s all different now, but blast beats etc = meh IMO. Great seeing you step out of the comfort zone and bring it. Big Respect!!
Oh yeah, and check out some of the Squarepusher stuff, replicate some of that nuttiness!!
Dude thank u so much sincerely, and yes I can’t imagine what it would be like in the 80s loving heavy music and then seeing this freak Lombardo come out of left field and plays this stuff. What a time. Ya the blast beat stuff is impressive but a lot of it is just that and not musical enough for me, don’t get me wrong though respect to those guys. Again thanks for the kind words!
Wow! I'd say you nailed it. It would be funny to see you bust this out at a jazz club.
Thanks so much! I feel like it would clear the room pretty quick, but it would be so hysterical. 🙃
nice... there is a jazz musician Matt wallace, and at the other side dave lombardo... interesting! at 50 I´m able to appreciate both terms of music...
Painkiller by Judas Priest should be next.
I love that song! Thanks for the request!
YEEESSSSS!!!
That’s just 1 song of a set and usually the encore song, so if you’re tired after just 1, bow to the Legendary Lombardo and thank him for CREATING a LEGENDARY track amongst a plethora of others 😱
Yes dude so true right! I was dead after this and it took so long to work up the stamina, I can’t imagine playing a set of this stuff with an encore like that…. Crazy 🤟🤟
@@yarpyarp85 Just imagine if you had to add this section to your version ua-cam.com/video/ManyDSIC8fQ/v-deo.html
Hahaha man he kills that song so much! Amazing!
@@yarpyarp85 It is amazing but if you took out the other tracks in your solo we would still know what you were playing. You did an awesome job
@@pc574 Thats right man, and thank u sooo much for real.
sick cover man, nailed it!
Thank you my friend!
Metal Jazz
I thought you did a great job! This coming from someone who has seen Slayer 27 times! My only comment to your video is I would have ilked a little information from you, like was it a piece of cake to learn? Parts you liked? Would it impact your drumming style, etc? Idk, maybe I am alone in that, but I would love to hear about you covering the song.
First of all thank u so much for the kind words!!
It’s was one of the most challenging things I’ve ever tried to learn, no joke it was months of work. I have a really crazy practice schedule (I average 4 hours a day and some days 8 to 10, not all at once of course lol.) So I was looking for a challenge and something to ignite the spark again, this was definitely that. The patterns alone are easy easy easy….. it’s the speed that killed me. The last part before the double bass run was the hardest part by far and took the majority of my time. I used an app to slow it down and loop it and I would do at least 50 to 100 reps of that section at 75% to 95%. That was me for at least a month lolol. That last 5% nearly ended it all for me but I stuck with it and made it through. Finally, learning this stuff has totally changed the way I play, it’s almost like I have an extra gear now when playing jazz (in terms of speed but also dynamics.) when I go to hit as hard as I can it’s way louder now. Blah blah blah lol I hope this was interesting but ya thank u so much for watching and asking about the process!
♥️♥️♥️🤟🤟🤟💪
@@yarpyarp85 That was awesome, thank you so much! I find this extremely interesting hearing how much time and energy you put into this video. You should definitely check out a live version of this with Dave playing, the double bass run is extended and it is absolutely crushing...you might like seeing how he adds a lot in there. In any case, thank you so much for the details! You got a new sub here :)
Thanks so much dude and I’ll definitely check it out Dave is a total freak. Have a good one!!
You're welcome
Excellent Matt your best ever 👍👍👍
Thanks dad!!!! Love u!!!!
Awesome! Mayhem’s Ancient Skin would be an interesting one.

Great job..!! Like it..
Thank u so much for watching again Javier!!!
GREAT WORK!!!!! REALLY IMPRESSED!!!!!
I love u so much baby!!!
He's knackered now.
Knackered for sure lad! 🤟
Hands looking great on the speedy parts, man! I remember in the Raining Blood playthrough, you copped to having to push-pull (or as Charlie Benante would call it, cheat) on a few of those, but I didn't notice any of that here. These videos are great.
Haha ya dude definitely had to “cheat” a little and I was still thinking push pull on this on for sure but it seems to be morphing into straight strokes. ThaNks for watching eh!
Perfect! . Please try " Fleshgod apocalypse - thru our scars "
Thanks so much friend! I’ll check it out for sure!

Matt if you ever see a like or comment for Nouls Tsardicos it is me Adrianna
That’s awesome thanks for the views Adrianna!
Pretty decent way to touch metal. Next level would be Deicide, Morbid Angel or Malevolent Creation.
Thanks eh, im gonna check out morbid angel tonight.
Wow you rocks \m/
Thanks my friend!!!
Come to the dark side " we have cookies" 😂
I’m fully invested now lololol

The black and white jazz photos and the little kit are not fooling anyone! That was a great performance Matt
Wow bro you killed Hails👹
Thanks man!!
Ghost of War please!
Yes sir I’ve been requested that one a bunch I’m probably gonna try and pull it off. Thank u!!
@@yarpyarp85 btw, I think the best part of that song:
ua-cam.com/video/oXPaGhkQI8s/v-deo.html
Thanks I’ve been checking it out I think I might give it a go.
Try Ingsoc By Havok
I’ll check it out dude! Thanks!
Awesome job. Now try some Gojira
Thanks man! I’ll check em out, any specific songs? Easier the better lol
Try "Pray" off the magma album.
no tama
Haha nope
I really liked your attempting, especially the adding some extra kick strokes in the bridge riff. But I think you should be much more agressive while playing metal. It gives both energy and powerfull strokes on drums. You hit the mark though, man!
Dude thank u so much for watching and for the constructive words! I totally agree, for me it was literally near impossible just to play that fast (I don’t know how u guys do it!) I tried to open up during the middle part with the back beat but I was really just holding on for dear life in the fast parts lolol 😁😁🤷♂️
@@yarpyarp85 ua-cam.com/video/SKZm4e_JbuU/v-deo.html This is not about you, even metal drummers have problems while playing Slayer because Dave Lombardo is the most unique metal drummer. He has jazz drummers'swing and metal drummers' power, speed.
Yes man I totally agree! The other drummer is awesome too, I think it’s Paul bostaph, but no one touches the god Lombardo. 🤟🏻🤟🏻
@@yarpyarp85 yes, he is Paul Bostaph. I agree with you. I think if somebody should replace with Dave Lombardo, he would be Jon Dette.
Totally man! Again thanks so much for the words! 🤜🤛
tired?
Hell yes!
That's a lonely looking mounted tom I must say.
Lololol poor little guy
When you are involved in the lyrics and the energy you’ll play it as it demands . Not just executing some parts.
Great point dude, u a drummer?
Good job but this isn't a single take, it's been edited, I could hear the crash being hit even when you weren't hitting it.... 1st one at 24 seconds....
Man these are my favourite comments by far!
The comments that seem to think it’s impossible lol. I swear on my life and on my families lives there isn’t a single edit. But thank u so much for thinking that. I practiced a bunch and hit a full take the 3 try.
@@yarpyarp85 Matt my mistake dude, I did comment on someone else's comment but I have corrected it, sorry man I genuinely thought it had been edited, didn't mean to offend and certainly wasn't dissing you, you are an awesome drummer... I'll take this moment to reflect on my mistake lol, and I am going to hit that Subscribe button... Again apologies dude ..👍👍🤘🤘
Dude so happy to hear from u again and no offence at all. I’m so happy I watched and are into it at all. Thanks so much for the sub and the view and I hope to hear from u again! Have a good one eh!
like for how you swinged the mosh part
