Love the concept of relaxing walk and it’s dog‘s walk! Feel much better after watching this as my bc never walk strictly beside me…. And love the Aussie trainer with Aussie dog 😊

Great video! So calm. Am fwding this one to my students. I have my Dobes wait at every corner as well, they just have to be right with me crossing the street, then when we get across will say Free so they can go back to loose leash walking. Joel Beckman has a dog walking tutorial video that's particularly helpful. (His Rottweiler named Creed video for the foundation video for loose leash walking and reactivity too - you're not going anywhere until they're on your page). Putting in the work up front and you'll rarely have issues later - they earn their way on the walk. A quick 5 minute game of retrieve in the back yard BEFORE the walk also helps take the edge off. Check out Susan Garrett's retrieve video - one of the best out there. Hope that helps.

I love the comment about when you make Shanti look up at you before you cross the road. I live on the second story and I am disabled and have back issues so living in Wisconsin, I have to make her look at me at the top of our deck and/or Wait for me to give her the command so that she does not pull me down the stairs when it is snowy and icy 🥶

I'm now super-proud, we got something right! We've always, always, stopped at the kerb, it could be a life-saver! 🙂

Thanks Nikhil! So many great tips as always. Such a good reminder not to rush the walks and to let them sniff.

This is so wild to me. In my country it's normal to walk the dog at least 3 times a day, everyday, and at least one of those should be a long walk. I cannot comprehend that people wonder how many times a dog should go outside. She needs to pee, and poop, so that takes care of how many times she walks in my case. There is this notion here that bigger dogs should live in houses with gardens, I think the happiest dogs live in apartments, exactly because they go outside so much and get to have some stimulation while dealing with physiological needs.
